Inflation poses biggest challenge to economic recovery
mania replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes of course this is true, to a point Notice in America how the unions drove up wages It was like a dog chasing its tail Union drives up minimum wage Companies increased expense meant raising prices Did the employees go anywhere? No not really but everything got more expensive for everyone It is a tough nut to crack, Of course if inflation rate is 3% & salary/minimum wages don't increase it is felt especially by the lower wage earners But at the same time as said above America & other western countries raised wages to a point most foreigners moving to places like Thailand went there to get away from the price increasing madness. If Thailand keeps raising minimum wages it will do exactly the same thing & become the same as the USA/Europe because of course taxes will rise too But again tough nut to crack because yes we cannot leave the lower income folks behind & say hey just live on your 2-300 baht a day wages Sadly Thailand least of all has a government fit to sort this out -

Royal Thai Navy chooses Israeli-made Hermes 900 Kochav drones
mania replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
No as they already have a surplus left over from the ones they had planned for the new attack helicopters They will just reorient them from vertical thrust to horizontal ???? -
This excuse for a govt can buy subs, jets, tanks etc etc etc Cannot afford a pump truck to do this? What is this the Thai Flintstones? Scooping sewage with a bucket? Reminds me of the attempt to use motor boats revving their engines to stop flooding Sometimes I am so grateful ignorance like this is not contagious but it is sad to watch & worse to support It is inhumane at least, People fall in klongs in Bangkok & lose limbs to infections, how much worse could this be?

Is Chiang Rai a good place to live? ... Compared to Chiang Mai?
mania replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in Chiang Rai
Thanks & as others have said a good list ! We have been thinking of either buying a condo in CM or CR as we sold ours in CM back in 2016 I have only been to CR a couple times but liked it. I know you spoke of Public hospitals but that is one thing that is still attractive about CM Not that we are sickly but the fact CM has such great facilities & selection does make it attractive again One other thing is earth quakes. I know & remember the one in 2014 as it ricked out condo in CM too Chiang Rai is at risk of being hit by a big earthquake as the province sits on the three main fault lines Also I cannot post link here because it is from BKP but google "Chiang Rai tipped for huge quake" It does make me wonder as I have lived in fault areas before & know how wild it can get But those two things aside we do want to go look & see which we prefer CM or CR for a foreigner owned condo -
Of course everyone knew that this suppression of protests was always the main reason for the decree Most also know Prayut can never lift it before elections in November for obvious reasons Problem though is , Thailand is at the moment FINALLY seeing a bit of light finally seeing some possible income headed back to the little people thru tourism This tho is a powder keg that could quickly end all of that so timing wise it sucks for the normal people This question should have been raised long ago & of course still needs addressing but this timing really is terrible for actual Thai people in need

Inflation hitting food manufacturers and food sellers hard
mania replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Problem with this inflation driven rising prices is of course the sellers will next raise prices too But if/when this inflation dies down do you think anyone will lower prices? Possibly the end of one of the biggest attractions in Thailand, inexpensive meals -
Is police corruption in Thailand the same as elsewhere?
mania replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Oh come on, This is not even a question Although Britmantoo came closest with his in Thailand corruption is available to all & it is But truth is try bribe a cop on the spot in the USA...You would be tazed & laying on the ground belly down in cuffs ???? Trust me I'm not saying it is not nice being able to bribe a cop in Thailand for $6-$150 but you might think otherwise if your the dead guy at the scene that some perp is bribing his way out of -

Actually they usually do better My wife came in 2007 with a 2 week tourist visa The decision is actually left to customs gate & the lady said 2 weeks??? I think you need 6 months & that is what she gave her Think that would ever happen in Thailand?? -

Bro I dont know which Hawaii you mean but the State of Hawaii dropped mask rules on March 26th & we have not worn one since https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2022/03/08/governor-state-health-department-hold-news-conference-mask-mandate/ -
Because it is not about whats maybe coming but what already left Same as Promenada keeping the lights on air on & all mechanical systems running these past years has left a stain Prom had some insane back owed Electric bill they had to default on
-
Ah the age old answer to everything...And if the rich say screw it I'm outa here? How about something easier like cutting the insane Military expenditures per year? How about shutting down some of the 700 US bases worldwide? US military spending amounted to $801 billion in 2021 there is the elephant in the room

It is a pity & this is just one domino Many more will fall & it is the fault of an inept government that did not know how to steer a country thru a crisis Sadly many will lose income & many more will follow. Does this sorry excuse for a government thinks it is easy to reinflate an economy? They think now many months too late that a reopening or dropping of masks will help?? Sorry to say it will not help anytime soon Folks have moved on & gone elsewhere. Thailand will recover but it will take a long time to reinflate During that time there will be much more hardships & suffering for the Thai people That will bring higher crime rates & all the rest that goes with it Thailand has needed a Hero for a long time now
