Thailand's Ambitious Land Bridge Project Gains Global Interest
BusyB replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Exactly. An extension of the rail lines from the north and north east (the green and yellow routes above) to Ranong makes sense in view of the overall rail system upgrades. Loading/unloading of ships in Ranong for rail to/from Bangkok/Beijing makes sense. But offloading onto rail in Chumpon then onloading again in Rayong (or vice versa) is logistical lunacy. A canal would make far more sense in that respect. It would shorten the journey time considerably. Both options will probably devastate a huge area of the isthmus irreparably. -

Thailand Holds Off on 30-Day Visa-Free Change Decision
BusyB replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's only to be expected however many days allowed. It has far more to do with enforcement and potentially corruption. Malaysia lets you in with 90 days and a smile. But you'd have to be well versed to try and pull that kind of poo there. I spent my entire life from childhood through to advanced middle age gaming every system I could. It's quite natural for some. In fact I gamed a system very effectively this winter back home ... lots of virtually free money - feelin' quite chuffed about it as well. Nice to know the old dog ain't dead yet. -

People like you and me do that in our sleep. The usual punter that normally 'holidays' in Torremolinos though doesn't really know where to start when it comes to that kind of thing. Just look at some of the questions that get asked on AN. -
France Blocks UK from €150bn EU Defence Fund Amid Growing Tensions
BusyB replied to Social Media's topic in World News
It also needs to come to terms that it is in the same category. The chances of reform or Tories coming to power in a few years are huge. Their principles and priorities are diagonally opposed to the EU's and they luuurve the Trump. -
France Blocks UK from €150bn EU Defence Fund Amid Growing Tensions

'They need us more than we need them'. Yet again. I'm stunned anyone's still daring to come out with this long ago discredited bilge. Even after 9 years no one seems to grasp it. Same old same old. And the decline continues 'apace' as the pols say nowadays. I guess it's just really hard to face the fact that the UK no longer belongs to the family now it's a common or garden third country. The country now also facing a serious essential medicines shortage caused by a 20% drop in EU imports since before the referendumb. The UK at the bottom of the G7 list for medical imports. Similar picture for exports. Key factor? (Nuffield Trust): Brexit. And AN's political scientologists now blaming Starmer and 'Labour'. And seriously think that mental pygmies and second rate bog wallahs like Farage, Badenoch and Yaxley-Lennon are the answer. Hint: They are all symptoms of something else that has yet to be addressed properly. Sad sad sad what has happened to the country I grew up in. The only place I've ever travelled to (the Midlands a few months ago) where they think they are 'world leading', but have business class lounges without even a sodding toilet to use. (And I mean without one, not under repair, broken whatever - simply no toilets.) The '3 Star' hotel charging 4 star prices that doesn't even offer a sodding dressing gown and slippers, never mind a phone, much less room service. Don't get me started on the waterways - they make the Chao Praya look like spa water. It will gradually sink in I hope that nobody needs the UK. It should have been clear by now to anyone with an ounce of nous. And until it has sunk in there cannot be any change in direction. By then though I suspect it will probably be too late to reverse the decline. There's certainly no evidence of anyone in public life right now with the necessary vision, wisdom or acumen to pull that off. And there's no sign amongst the population at large - and I listened to quite a few tales and whinges - that there is anyone even interested in genuine change. Sad. Really sad. You have exactly the leaders you all deserve. Mind you, the 'King's golden carriages are sooo impressive. Totally pretty. And all those horses! More than the entire US Army owns! One of the few 'public services' that didn't see any cuts at all. Whaddaya know. Just a shame the nurses and firefighters cheering him on had to race home after the big parade before the food banks closed. Back to baked beans on toast like in the 70s. Decline? - Delicious! -

Calls Grow to Shut Down ‘Vile’ Death Video Site as Ofcom Gains New Powers
BusyB replied to Social Media's topic in World News
You mention Vance and freedom of speech in one sentence? Vance, Zuckerberg et al. mean their freedom to say what they want and destroy and insult those they don't like. Other views and especially other effective views do not fit into their category of free speech and are being quashed. They hate genuine free speech. They do not in any way subscribe to it unless it agrees with them, benefits them and generates profit. Consequently they have no idea of the real bounds of free speech either or what actually even constitutes free speech, much less its actual purpose. Watching the economically illiterate blond bimbo lecturing people with twice her IQ about how judges aren't allowed to reign in presidents was a perfect example of the sheer ignorance and Putinism that now blankets the US. But yes, it's what you voted for. Enjoy. Why don't they all just move to Russia or Belarus? They'd fit into the political landscape there perfectly. Home from home now. -
Calls Grow to Shut Down ‘Vile’ Death Video Site as Ofcom Gains New Powers
BusyB replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Sadly, the Rotten.com site fell into disrepair decades ago but it was fun while it lasted. It was mostly stills back then, of people with dreadful wounds or mangled corpses, unpleasant medical afflictions and some who'd had terrible accidents. I remember one had the heading 'Whoopsie at the train station' - the top half of some unfortunate's head was still above the platform in front of the train, at the end of a long stretch of blood where it had just been dragged along. The rest of the body was below the platform. Somewhere. Somehow. My favorite MTV series wasn't Jackass, which I found rather tame and only occasionally gruesome and funny. The best was MTV Scarred, where mountain bikers, skateboarders and all kinds of precarious sportspeople were being filmed when they had really bad, bad, excruciating accidents. After the footage they showed their stunted limbs and heads with multiple screws and rods and whatnot and their X-rays. That show was a real cringer. A few years ago a Zoom meeting at work was bombed by some weirdo or other. Before I could tell the host how to dump it the screen filled with various images of women apparently having sex with dogs and people having their heads blown off in shotgun executions. All in a repetitive loop and with a Jihadi sound track. It really traumatized some colleagues. I loved Rotten.com and MTV Scarred, but that Zoom bomber leaves me with no desire to see this 'death' channel from the OP. -

Poor/er quarter. Shanty town. With added descriptors and qualifications as/if needed. Slum is a loaded negative word that denies the inhabitants' dignity. -
My how things change 555 Back in an earlier life we calculated: 75Kgs M + 3Kgs Handbaggage (Yes 3, and it was enforced.) 63Kgs F +3Kgs Handluggage - women and girls usually were allowed a handbag as well. 43Kgs C +3Kgs 10Kgs Infant up to 2 years of age (officially no hand luggage but obviously kiddy needs accepted)
