  1. my first few charging attempts with different providers went smoothly. i knew it wouldn't always be like that ... yesterday, i tried test charging with elexa for the first time. everything went well including the "handshake", but after three minutes, no electrons had reached the sealion 7. i could only abort the chargerhead form my car using the red emergency button. on my second attempt, it was the same result. maybe this charging head has issues, so i tried the other free dc chargerhead, and this time it worked without any issues! do you report defective charging stations? is there a feature on any app to report faulty charging stations? it would be really useful since calling the operators and explaining everything can be a hassle ...
  2. if you want to be cautious (both now and for your future in thailand), just file your tax return to reclaim the bank tax that was withheld. some people prefer to follow the laws, rules, and customs as guests and foreigners in thailand. others might call us stupid or idiots for doing so. i know which kind of people i prefer ... i think the thai people do too ...
  3. thanks for your explanation! about the fine print: this year, we filed our (familiy) tax return for the first time online. we assumed that our daughter could deduct the full 100k for her life insurance. however, the online form only deducted about 67k. when we inquired with the TRD, we learned that, according to the fine print, our daughter does not have enough income to claim the full deduction! this is not a problem for her, since she filed the tax return solely to get her refund of withheld tax. after just 10 days, she already received the money from the TRD. so far, so good!
  4. if i did that, i didn't mean to, sorry about that... maybe i misunderstood the post (english isn't my first language), maybe you can help me understand what was really meant of "using foreign credit-cards, don't really count since the funds are never transferred into Thailand?" i do assume that the tax experts and tax lawyers from the TRD have addressed this in the fine print; otherwise, this would be a simple loophole and an invitation for money laundering and tax evasion ...
  5. nice to have a real tax expert here. you seem very confident about your claim ... could you provide some sources? thanks.
  6. ... they might have access to his accounts using his atm cards ... it's so evil of me to even think of something like this ...
  7. i read about such accidents almost every day, and i'm shocked at how calm and unaffected i am (after 20+ years in thailand) ... knowing nothing will change ... my daughter was only allowed to go on school trips if her seat had a functioning seatbelt, otherwise, she wasn't allowed to go. every time, she sent us a selfie, seatbelt are working! do thai parents really love their children? why don't they take responsibility for their children's safety instead of just saying "don't worry, everything will be fine"? it's sad, for the child ... why know one blames the parents ... i really don't understand: how can you not to do everything possible to protect your loved child?
  8. you are right, i have an android phone, so i will try using android auto ... thank's
  9. ... with the sealion 7, you'll have more than enough performance power... believe me ...
  10. i see this differently. if you file your taxes (although it may not be necessary and 2k not financially worth it), you will receive a receipt for your tax declaration, it can help also with any inquiries from banks in your home country ... in my case, it was very helpfull to have a tax receipt from the TRD! the tax office isn't aware that the money you send to thailand is for social security and is covered by a DTA. when filling out the tax form, you do clarify (as good as possible) this from your side ... i'd say that's being proactive... but that's just my personal opinion and how i do things ...
  11. thank you for the detailed explanation. i'm still in the phase of trying things out and learning by experimenting ... i've never used carplay before, so i'm not familiar with it. i hope to figure out its pros and cons in the coming months and see if it's a good solution for my needs ... to save data on the byd sim card (2gb/month), i did try connecting the sealion to my phone hotspot (100gb/month). let's see how it works, it looks like i have to reconnect the wifi (to the hotspot) every time when starting the car, but it should be worthwhile for longer trips ... my car system version doesn't have the gbox app yet i hope for an update soon ...
  12. my byd comes with a sim card that allows up to 2gb per month. i listened to spotify during a long round trip and already used 250mb! what is the simplest solution or best settings to use my phone's data instead of the car's internet? can i do this without using android auto, using only bluetooth for calls? thanks for your insights.
  13. was he diagnosed with alzheimer's here in thailand? there are many forms of dementia, including alzheimer's. some dementia patients are peaceful, while others can be confrontational and may become aggressive. if he is only forgetful, this can be arranged in advance with the airline by having an escort both at departure and arrival. it seems there are still many open questions, but the best solution is definitely for someone he knows to accompany him on the journey. i did this eight years ago with a person suffering from dementia. it was not easy and extremely exhausting, but it was the right decision to accompany this person ...
  14. i wouldn't worry too much about the additional 20k deposit (byd mukdahan may have had some bad experiences already). it will be deducted from the total end price along with the 10k deposit you already paid. at my dealership, the total price can be paid via bank app or cashier's check. the handover of the car, along with all the information from the salesperson, was overwhelming for my wife. she wouldn’t feel confident enough to drive the new car home alone. maybe postponing the handover until your return is worth considering, so you can get all the important information directly from the byd dealer. glad it worked out for you to get the byd sealion 7 ...
  15. yesterday, i took my first long round trip (468 km) in the electric car byd sealion 7 (sl 7). it was a completely new driving experience ... gliding almost silently, without vibrations, almost like floating or flying. the ride was extremely comfortable and enjoyable ... loved it! at first, i thought it was a pity there was no one-pedal drive. but on a hilly and winding route (two-lane with oncoming traffic), the "high" regeneration mode was more than enough. unlike the cars ahead of me, which lit up their brake lights before every curve, i barely needed to use the brake pedal at all. this made driving even more fun and relaxing! although i already knew charging on the way wouldn’t be necessary (driving in eco mode without hammering it), we made two short test charging stops (ptt ev station pluz / pea). once again, no issues and completely stress-free! with every trip, i try or discover new settings. i’m taking my time to test everything and find out which ones i prefer. overall, driving this car is incredibly fun, even in eco mode ...
  16. the sim card of my car is not activated yet ... i am just starting to learn how everything works (my 4.day with the car) ... some other forum members own a byd car for over one year, i am sure they can answer your questions better than i ....
  17. the car came with standard carpets, but they're tough to clean. i'll probably look for an alternative ... they asked me about the window tint percentage in advance, and the car was perfectly ready on delivery day (incl. red license plate), except for activating the sim card. when i ordered the sealion 7, the salesperson told me i'd receive the car by the end of the year 2024. i followed up two or three times, and now it finally worked out. according to facebook groups, many others are also dealing with long delivery times, so we're not alone. fingers crossed for you ... the wait is worth it. from the (eu) english user manual, page 96 (i only got the thai version from the dealer, and while i can read thai, it would take me forever ... 555) : The powertrain needs break-in. This should preferably be done within the first 2,000 km in economic mode. Steady driving instead of high-speed driving is recommended. The following practices effectively prolong vehicle service life: ● Avoid flooring the accelerator pedal when starting and driving the vehicle. ● Do not maintain a high or low speed for too long. ● Avoid speeding. ● Do not use the vehicle to tow other vehicles within the first 2,000 km of mileage. https://www.bydauto.nl/app/uploads/2025/01/BYD-SEALION-7-Owners-Manual-Left-hand-Drive-EN-240820-1.pdf
  18. a few days ago, i received my byd sealion 7 performance. the delivery took over two months. i'm very impressed with the features and quality. according to byd, the first 2000 km should be driven in eco mode. that’s no issue for me ... eco mode provides more than enough power ... i still have many settings to test and explore ... exciting times ahead. i briefly tested charging at a ppt station, ev station pluz, using my bbl credit card. it was simple and seamless ... i easily charged about 20 kw/h without any problems. next time, i'll try some different charging stations. overall, i’m a happy and proud new ev owner ... side note: i had been considering replacing my 12-year-old big petrol car for a while. by chance, i came across electric mobility, got interested, and did my research. it took a long time to find the right bev for me. i didn’t buy it for environmental reasons or the lower cost per kilometer ... though both are nice side effects. my wife still has her petrol car ...
  19. there's huge potential in battery technology, but also in software and overall car electronics. however, i don't believe that in 10 to 20 years, all new cars will be fully autonomous or that today's electric cars will be completely outdated. even now, many 20- to 30-year-old cars with outdated and sometimes poor safety features are still on the road. i'm convinced that today's electric cars will still be driving safely in 20 years, without any major safety or comfort issues ...
  20. why do western embassies think they can have any influence on what happens in thailand ... in my opinion, it's just an empty gesture and a complete waste of time and money ... because the authorities and government will accept nothing from foreigners except money ...
  21. you repeat yourself many times already ... tell me, why does a man like you (with or without principles) live in an unstable 3rd world country like thailand ... sorry, but are you split personality or aren't you telling us the whole story 🤔
  22. every newly installed aircon uses about the same electricity as an average electric car... nowadays, a lot of people, including the poor, are installing aircon. haven't seen the price go up, or have you? even if electricity prices doubled, it would still be cheaper than today's gasoline prices ... any reliable source for your claim? thank you. the car batteries will get a second life. at the moment, the market is a niche, but it will change in the future ...
  23. do i understand you right, bribe a corrupt immigration officer is legal in your view? my 5 cents, many people who bribe officials are the same ones that drink ten beers, then hop on their motorbike and ride back to their house, without a helmet, with their house being "owned" by a Thai company, and using also an agent for this illegal setup ...
  24. ... why don't you go and tell the thai authorities their obligations ... btw, some embassies informed their people (sent an email) about the change in tax regulations ... so your embassy didn't inform you, but you expect the thai government to do so ...
  25. don't be so negative. thailand makes it easy for you to switch to electric mobility: a wide selection of electric vehicles in every price range, affordable electricity, and even cheaper options if you go solar. plus, the charging infrastructure is constantly expanding nationwide ... yes, not everyhing is perfect, but improvements are constantly being made in every sector. now is a great time to make the switch, as you said: "i'd love to have an ev."
