Just Stop Oil Protesters Convicted for Soup Attack on Van Gogh's Sunflowers
The unfortunate near juxtaposition of the word 'stripper' and these photos have left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. But OMG please No, nurse, take that bloody awful tomato soup away!

Elderly woman killed at zebra crossing in Pathum Thani
The current Road Traffic Act (from I believe 2021) is very clear. If you put a foot on the zebra crossing, ALL traffic MUST stop until you complete your crossing. The fine (then) was 4000 baht (plus, no doubt, the loss of some points). I know what happens in practice! It's a nightmare for pedestrians and law abiding drivers. I've lived here for 15 years and I hate driving here now.

Thai Traffic Laws
There was a new Road Traffic Act, I believe, in 2021. As a pedestrian as well as a driver, I was interested in the nightmare that is zebra crossings. The Act clearly said that if you step onto a zebra, all traffic MUST stop until you finish crossing. The fine (then) was 4000 baht (plus, I presume, losing some points). I drove my daughter to school in Chiang Mai last week. A car veered to overtake me on Sapahn Mengrai just outside the hospital! He stayed up against my rear bumper until I turned right along Charoenprathet. A policeman was standing on the zebra crossing there as the car whizzed past me over the zebra at at least 65-70 kms an hour. It went into Montfort Junior School. He didn't even blink. I have the b#stard's number. But will the police care?

What's happening and when at the Paris Olympics?
I almost never watch hockey, although I have played; but today I watched the match between the German ladies and Japan. It put many Premier League soccer matches to shame! End to end attacking, fantastic work and fitness levels, skilled wingers. attacking central players, heroic defence - two goal win for Germany. Great!

Thai Athletes' Paris Olympic Uniforms Draw Criticism
Lovely! I'm a big fan of Sapsiree. She is supremely fit, has worked so hard on her game and has built an excellent relationship with her badminton partner. They are certainly in the medal hunt at the Olympics. She is intense when she is playing, but afterwards shows a charming and smiley personality. All of the Thai badminton players will be trying 100% in the Olympics. They will be very well trained and prepared. BUT the competition, particularly from China and Japan, is intense. Good luck to them all. Having watched Thai badminton for 15 years I know that they will do Thailand proud. Love to you, Sapsiree! Chok dee!

Chiang Mai earthquake causes tremors, no major damage
Didn't notice. I was in my Swinging Blue Jeans party mode and teaching my tirak the 'Hippy Hippy Shake'. She soon got the hang of it.

Why is Thailand so terrible at sport?
'Why did you mention snooker in a sports topic? Snooker, like Pool and Billiards are not sports, they are just pub games trying to put balls in a hole with a piece of stick.' Can't agree with this NoShow. Snooker is an activity that is mentally and physically tiring. It requires a high degree of co-ordination, strength at times, and concentration. The last time I scored 147, I was exhausted. That was my aggregate over a whole bloody year!

Answering my front door stark naked.
That great band leader, composer, wit and ladies' man, Duke Ellington, once answered his hotel door bell stark naked except for a big welcoming smile on his face. He was obviously expecting somebody other than the male journalist who was standing nervously outside the great man's door. Duke registered surprise but the smile hardly slipped as he said: "Oh, dear. It appears that my charisma is showing."

Why is Thailand so terrible at sport?
Certainly Thai badminton is of a high standard. Nong May (Inthanon) was ladies' world number 1 . Vitidsarn is a high ranking man player. The ladies' doubles and top mixed doubles pairing are very good to really excellent standard. It's just that the Chinese and Japanese are usually better! The standard in badminton is extremely high. Top Thai golfers (ladies and men) are good as are snooker players. I can remember Thailand having a world boxing champion, Pone Kingpetch. But my Thai daughter is now nearly eleven. She goes to a good international school but plays little sport at school. Shame on the school! There is a nice quite large sports field but it's mainly only the boys who seem to use it (for football, of course)

Why does everyone say "bold"? It's "bald". "'Lovely to varda yer jolly old eke, Mister Horne." "He's got bona riah, 'ent he, Jules?" "Ooh, Mister Horne? 'Ent he bold?" "Bald, Jules." "Please yourself." "Ooh, I do."

Last night's tranny surprise. At least I wasn't molested.
'A mate picked up a gorgeous street walker at traffic lights in Korea. At his apartment after he showered he flicked back the sheet and there it was. He went ballistic, didn't hurt it, just smashing the walls and shouting. It scarpered like lightning. He stripped the bed and slept under a towel with a rugby shirt as a pillow.' (Speedhump) Was he a Northampton Saints player? I only ask because the Saints have always preferred 'Jimmy's End'.

Thailand Secures Live Broadcast of UEFA Euro 2024
England are Shaw to win Eze after the Thai PM's support. He's made his selection from the Mainoo to play Serbia. He's decided to stick with Rice. He announced that his selection was not exactly Thaksin his brain and that he stayed calm and decided to be non-controversial and raise Kane.

No Skips! How Do We Get Rid of Heavy Rubbish?
I'll try that, thanks! (I always thought it was a great idea 20 years ago on visiting East Germany (as was) that every two weeks everyone put outside items they no longer wanted e.g. old radios that still worked. People helped themselves. I was surprised to learn from my young Thai daughter just returned from England that people in England are also doing this. Good for them!)

No Skips! How Do We Get Rid of Heavy Rubbish?
I live in a village between Chiang Mai and Lamphun. I have some heavy rubbish like an old air conditioner unit (inside and out) that nobody I ask seems to want (not surprisingly!). How do we get rid of this stuff?

Rishi Sunak vows to bring back National Service
Seriously now..... One of the saddest things I've ever heard in my very long life was in a BBC TV report from inside a British tank being heavily fired upon in one of the Middle Eastern wars. A young British soldier, naturally very fearful, said to the camera : "When I joined the Army, nobody ever told me that I'd be shot at."

What's the oddest or strangest thing that's happened to you during a massage?
I went to a 'no happy ending' massage shop (i.e. a 'normal' one??). I mentioned that I had a stiff back. I undressed and the young girl without saying a word kept me on my chest and slowly walked up and down on my back(barefoot, of course) for fifteen or more minutes. (She was small!) It felt very odd to begin with but then became very pleasurable and it did the trick. Next day no stiffness.

Trans-tussle: Video captures fight between Pattaya and Phuket transwomen (video)
Some years ago I was walking back to my condo in the early hours and witnessed a fight between about 7 or 8 ladyboys on the forecourt of the gas station on Kotchasarn Road in CM. It looked quite 'amusing' until a couple of the ladyboys ended up on the floor being stabbed in the stomach by the high heels. I hightailed it out of there damned quick.

UK Passport Renewal Chiang Mai VFS
I looked at this site last year when I renewed my UK passport. There were several criticisms of VFS in CM then, so I went to Thai Visa Assist in Changmailand. Smooth, efficient service there.

My Sporting Quiz - For OLDIES Only??
Fame is transitory. One day Roger Federer, Noli and Rafa will be 'forgotten'. Pele, Ali and Maradona just names. Memory is becoming obsolete. Is this connected with Alzheimer's? Memory used to be greatly cultivated in schools. I don't mean learning by rote. There has always been some of that. It's not just a Thai school issue.

Alternative retirement locations
The humorous writer whom I love the best, S. J. Perelman, said, after several visits there, that Indonesia was his ideal. Pretty girls too, he said!
