Some of this seems off base... for example, bpee sao or nong sao is sister just a bit more descriptive than just sister... why would they need a word for 'gospel' Thai language is not a direct translation of English. Nor English a translation of Thai - these are 2 languages that grew up separately.. most of the words on your list I can find a way to express in Thai... it idesn't have to be word for word - that is what makes it another language... Character can be said many ways.. kon dee would be a good person - jai boon - jai dee speaks of generosity... and LEST? who says Lest anymore? I behest thee to banish thine self lest I thrash thee... There may not be one exact word but there still are ways to express most words/thoughts/feelings/ideas...

I learn Thai because I enjoy speaking with people... I don't like book learning nor upside down double ee's with a line over it. My tones are functional because the words sound different to me... and i speak in sentences so i guess if I miss a tone, it still works out ok... It can also provide some incite into the culture. I would not cop to being fluent - I would hold that word in high regard. I am fluid conversationally - most of my conversations in the course of a day are in Thai.

which if you live in Central Thailand is surely quite a resounding majority...

Ease of transition is important... if you are keeping them, make sure it is covered in a Will and that your wife is educated as to what there is and how to retrieve it... I have put a lot in my wife's name as that is the surest way... of course, then it is no longer mine.

A friend of mine who did straight temple massage, was also lured by an agent. I spent 3 days trying to talk her out of it but she believed the agent... her husband also tried to talk her out of it but she was desperate to make some money. I think she only had to repay the agent 40,000 as I sent her the money to come home unharmed... I sent her 70,000 so she would have enough for hotel and flight and taxi etc... and she probably told the massage shop that I sent her 70k and they then raised the price to 50k... that is how naive they can be... she was 38 at the time and had been #1 in her HS class...

I would trust their judgment - I haven't been in Bkk for 10 years but last time there it was awful traffic... sat in a taxi for 45 minutes on Sathorn and barely moved... felt bad for the driver but gave him a good tip and got out and walked...

I just got a couple of responses back from friends in USA - I sent off a couple of photos of my wife and daughter/niece... They responded how 'nice to see people smiling' maybe just enjoy and don't look a gift horse in the mouth... 'I know 'the nose' knows'
