Yep - suicide ants climbing into your hot water machine. That's a feature here. Amazing Thailand!

Yes. I type English and Thai and I use a cheapo Logitech keyboard with both English and Thai characters on the keys. If you have no plans to type Thai, then why bother.

Has anyone purchased a cheap MS Windows Home or MS Windows Pro product key off of Lazada or elsewhere online. One that actually works. If so, what vendor did you purchase from? 😁 "I thought you were a Linux-Guy. Ha ha ha ha ha! Come over to the 'dark-side' hey?" Nah. I'm setting up a laptop for my son who is a member of Gen-Android. Laptop installations are more along the lines of my Boomer expertise. There are reasons he needs a copy with a working product key however I don't want to spend anymore money than I have to for a working product key. However, past experience on Lazada has shown me that "cheap" oft times doesn't work. So, looking for a recommendation by someone who successfully bought a cheap, working product key.

Joe Biden Favored to Beat Donald Trump in 538 Election Forecast
connda replied to Social Media's topic in World News
In that case - Howdy Doody For President (or some other marionette or sock puppet - like Lamb Chop For Vice President!) Why not - Biden doesn't pull his own strings and I'd argue that neither will Trump 2.0. Anyway, the last three years of a Biden presidency will be right out of a Weekend At Biden's Bernie's 2.0 reboot script sans the humor if he's put into office for a second term. "You're anti-old-people and ageist! Grrrrr!" I'm 72 and if I was given the POTUS on a platter I'd turn it down and argue that it should be given to someone 10 years younger, and who is in excellent health and mentally sharp. This US perchance of placing geriatric basket-cases into positions of power has never sat right with me. It's time to hand the reins of power over to our children and grandchildren's generations. I'd like to see Millennials and even Gen-Zs running for offices at the grassroots level and I'd like to see Millennials and Gen-X running our government in Congress. I'd like to see Boomers like myself put out to pasture or limited to advisory roles. Doddering 80+ year old presidents simply make the US look weak and feeble as well as the laughing stock on the world stage. -

Joe Biden Favored to Beat Donald Trump in 538 Election Forecast
connda replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Hillery Clinton was favored to beat Donald Trump on all of the main-stream media polls in 2016. Just saying... Personally I don't see the Democratic Presidential nominee being Biden. I think the Left wants to hold on to power more than they want to hold on to the trope that Biden doesn't suffer from dementia. They'd be better off with a mentally functioning Gen-X or Millennial instead. And if they run him, they'll lose more than the White House. -

I'll believe it when I see it. EV are on the parabolic side of government hyperbole but my guess is when EVs crash battery and electric infrastructure first into economic realities, gas powered cars will be with us much longer than "The Polar Icecaps Are Melting" XR types will lead you to believe. The guy down the street fixing cars and motorcycles will die of old age before he's out of work.

Thank god. I've no problem with biological males who want to do anything - other than compete against biological females in sporting events. These are men who can not cut it in male sports and then compete against "the weaker sex" in order to win trophies that they otherwise would never be able to win. Biological women should only compete against biological women - unless - they chose to compete in "open competitions." Now I'm all for sport's authorities to carve out an "open category" where any sex can compete, or even a "transgender" category. Great - I want to see transgender people of have the opportunity to compete - against their biological equals. But biological men competing against women creates a danger to the much weaker biological women. No biological woman should be forced to compete against a biological man unless it's in an open category and they chose to compete together.

Thailand Grapples with Growing Number of Foreign Beggars
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That's a worthy thing to do. Wife and I use to buy coffins for 500 THB per pop - when I lived in Chiang Mai. Now we just support two temples here so coffins are sorta just baked into the cake so to speak. -

Are Thai girls more feminine than Western girls?
connda replied to Hummin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Well given the average gal in the US borders on being clinically obese, and fat chicks not being my thing, yeah - Thai gals are more feminine than gals in the US and most Western gals.- 166 replies

Thailand Grapples with Growing Number of Foreign Beggars
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand Grapples with Growing Number of Foreign Beggars Most of whom are from neighboring SE Asian countries bordering Thailand, and like has been happening since I arrived in 2007, many if not most are run by mafia. "You're wrong! Grrrr!" I've seen it in BKK as well as Chiang Mai. Beggars are transported in pickup trucks and dropped off in the morning and then retrieved later in the day. Some of the most vile instances is when a filthy parapalegic human corpse is laid out on the sideway with a collection cup placed next to him (common at the BTS in BKK) or a woman with an infant is dropped off to tug at the heart strings of passing ignorant tourists. "You're heartless! Grrrr!" Far from it. I don't support mafias or human trafficking. Give these mafia plants money and you're doing just that. They are victims, but victims of unscrupulous mafia-types as well as human traffickers compounded by a government that does little to end the practice. This is a problem that should be addressed by the BIB - but..... Human trafficking doesn't happen in a vacuum. When I lived in Chiang Mai we knew some really poor elderly people selling knick-knacks and food items on the sidewalks. The wife talked with them, they were locals often without families who lived in the same area as we did. Elderly, family-less Thais without pensions or sources of income - that can be tough. We tend to help them when we can. Often by just giving them 100 THB and not actually buying anything from them. "They're conning you!!! Ha ha ha - fool!" Some may, some may not. It's our intentions to care for the down-trodden which is the act of generosity. And it's a fine line between helping a truly poor person on the street and a mafia plant. Now - farang beggars? Honestly, they probably are out there but I've never seen one. This thread will now fill up with holier-than-thou types throwing shade at "Beg-Packers." But I've never seen one. The primary beggars are ASEAN mafia plants and actual dirt poor elderly Thais. Knowing the difference. It's a tough call sometimes. -

Hunter Biden Found Guilty on All Counts in Gun Trial

Ok - I hope it goes to the Supreme Court. The LAUSD was playing "whack-a-mole" with the 9th Court by pulling the mandate in order to get the court to drop the case as "moot" and then reissuing the mandate again. The court clearly notes this and got tired of the game. So it will probably go to the SCOTUS in order to attempt to get a ruling by the SCOTUS that the case actually was "moot" because the LAUSD (temporarily) dropped the mandates to avoid an adverse ruling. Here's the ruling - read the whole 33 pages. It's in there as part of the majority decision. "LAUSD appears to have twice sought to manipulate the federal courts to avoid an adverse ruling on this issue. Moreover, the Board expressly reserved the option to again consider imposing a vaccine mandate. This confirms that LAUSD has not carried its heavy burden to show that there is no reasonable possibility that it will again revert to imposing a similar policy." https://cdn.ca9.uscourts.gov/datastore/opinions/2024/06/07/22-55908.pdf

This is the link to the entire published court summary publish by the Ninth Court of Appeals. US Ninth Court of Appeals Rules Against the Los Angeles Unified School District (“LAUSD”) mandatory Covid Vaccination policy. The attorneys for the school district were arguing that under Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11 (1905) that vaccinations could be forced on the public in order to stop the spread of a disease. However, as the court noted [in a tentative finding accepting the plaintiff's claims for procedural purposes], the Covid vaccines do not stop the spread of Covid and therefore Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11 (1905) does not apply. Quotes from the majority ruling of the US Ninth Court of Appeals: "At this stage, we must accept Plaintiffs’ allegations that the vaccine does not prevent the spread of COVID-19 as true. Twombly, 550 U.S. at 556. And, because of this, Jacobson does not apply. LAUSD cannot get around this standard by stating that Plaintiffs’ allegations are wrong. Nor can LAUSD do so by providing facts that do not contradict Plaintiffs’ allegations." Public encouraged to stay vigilant as COVID infections rises
connda replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This is info that even the mainstream media was acknowledging back in 2021. "While the first case of Covid-19 was officially identified in December 2019, they found it is likely that SARS-CoV-2 had spilled over into humans much earlier. Their analysis suggests that China had its first case of the respiratory disease back in early October or November 2019 before it spread globally by January 2020." https://www.forbes.com/sites/anuradhavaranasi/2021/06/24/when-exactly-did-the-first-covid-19-case-emerge-in-china/ -
Baby shampoo strips all the oil out of your hair and scalp. I try to avoid it. Agree, not much fragrance but its harsh shampoo.
