Make sure to keep up on your Covid boosters. They are "Effective" and they will keep you "Safe." Now repeat the benediction after me: "Safe and Effective, Safe and Effective, Safe and Effective" <kneel, genuflect, grasp your chest and keel over>
-
Why do people still believe in covid? Because Covid became their "God" to be feared, Anthony Fauci became the High Priest of The Cult of the Covidians, and the "Safe and Effective" shot became their Eucharist, and receiving the shot their holy Communion. To the Covid cultists it's a religion.

Because I'm married to a Thai, I have a Thai son, I have a Thai extended family, I've lived here almost 18 years, and I plan to live out my days here until I die unless the Thai government decides to break up my family. That's why. Personally I'd rather have citizenship like every foreign female who is married to a Thai guy can obtain after 3 years of marriage.

Wow! The UK "rogers" there citizens with a 20% VAT? Criminey! "Bend over commoners and let Uncle Starmer and friends have their way with you."

Ditto on the Grape Nuts. I do like them. I like Cream of Wheat too, but the last box I priced was the equivalent of $15 bucks USD. $7 bucks in the US. Just stupid prices. I can see a markup to offset shipping, but twice the price? I use to buy Cream of Wheat when I first got here in Korat and it wasn't that absurdly priced. Where are you buying your Grape Nuts?

US made Clothes. Try to find a pair of whitey-tighteys that actually will fit your farang sized butt here in Thailand, just as an example. And I'm not talking about obese Westerner sizes, just a regular, normal sized farang male. Thailand makes underwear for "no-butt" teenaged boys and men. If you go into your typical mall here in Thailand you end up having to pay a couple of thousand THB for a freaking pack of underwear.
-
Just go to a grocery store and check the prices of US imported grocery products. It's ridiculous. I checked using an AI interface and it seems that tariffs on food and agricultural products can range upwards of 50% and tariffs on US made clothing can range upward of 60%. Needless to say I don't purchase US made goods here in Thailand. So honestly, I consider reciprocal tariffs to simply be leveling the playing field.

connda replied to theblether's topic in The War in Ukraine
There is only one problem: those rare earth minerals are in Russian East Ukraine. Ya'll know - the "Russia who is losing the war badly." -
She'll be called a "White Samoan" by the Left.

Thailand Halts New Firearm Permits to Combat Rising Gun Crime
connda replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I want whatever the person who made that estimate is smoking. The low number of registered guns probably has something to do with the price tag of your typical hand gun which is literally 5 times the cost of the same gun in the US. Only those with the means can afford a registered guy, the cheapest of which are around 80K THB. Gun ownership is a middle and upper class phenomenon here. Unregistered guns? The 4 million quote is probably so low-balled as to be ridiculous. And now were talking about cheap, black-market firearms. The trick here though is getting the ammo, not the guns. That's more problematic for someone who owns an unregistered (illegal) firearm. And as far as concealed carry permits. Those were close to impossible to get unless you were a connected "somebody." So honestly, all the legislation does is keep uber-wealthy jerks from being able to legally conceal carry and then brandish their weapon after drinking too many Johnny Walkers at the Karaoke Club with the other connected and uber-wealthy. This legislation affect a minuscule percentage of the population and primarily those who are rich enough and connected enough to get a permit. It will have about as much effect as a pimple on a gnat's ass in "Combating Rising Gun Crime." Want to combat it - register more guns so you know who has them. The primary gun criminals don't carry registered firearms. But the catch here is that the authorities will never register guns purchased on the black market. -

It's not people with permits who are the problem. It's the people without the permits. -
Paradise - started off with an interesting premise, but it seems to have become a melodramatic parody of itself as it approaches mid-season of season 1. It contains distinct elements of Blake Crouch's Wayward Pine but with a twist. But unfortunately it's becoming maudlin and sappy. In Thai terms, too much Lakhon and not enough plot. They've tossed in a plot twist at the end of episode 4 so I'll hold off judgement and see what shakes. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27444205/

Serverance. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, but I like quirky, and quirky it is. Others who like quirky agree as the show has an 8.7 Imbd rating. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11280740/

Thai PM Considers Easing Alcohol Sales Rules to Boost Tourism
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thai PM Considers Easing Alcohol Sales Rules to Boost Tourism A day late and a satang short. I seriously doubt it as the rules are about exercising control, keeping a foot and the neck of the commoners, and have nothing to do with "Saving The Children" or whatever other excuse is used by Thai elites. But it's an own goal when it comes to tourism. And anyway, that's what a 2pm to 5pm coffee cup at the bar is for as well as CCTV. -

Nah. Those people are already on anti-depressants, and a host of other "happy drugs" which don't solve any of their problems, therefore it's.....? Trump's fault!

Sunspots? Trump's fault! Gamma Rays? Trump's fault! Gender dysphoria? Trump's fault! My last 3 failed marriages? Trump's fault! Anything that isn't Russia's fault? Trump's fault! Stupid TV shows? Trump's fault! Gay frogs? Trump's fault! Pimples? Trump's fault! Wrinkles? Trump's fault! The Left's uniform meltdown on everything? Trump's fault! Anything I missed? Trump's fault!

I consider 2800 to be dirt cheap. You can find cheap phones on Lazada and Shopee. Ditto - I'd never opt for either a second hand phone or PC. Even if you reinstall the OS you have no idea what you're getting. Just ask Hezbollah.

Visit to tax office, Koh Samui,(today)
connda replied to CFCol's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Why? So they can appease overly-paranoid farangs who don't owe the TRD any taxes, but who have been scared s***less by this continued scary-talk on AN forums over the last year about "New Tax Rules" that aren't even new? They tweaked a regulation to close a loop-hole kids, the laws aren't new. Most expats who have done their homework, have done a dry-run on their tax assessments, and own nothing should just keep their records in a file box and then take a huge Chill-Pill and relax. Trust me, the Thai government doesn't want to spend money to process paperwork for paranoid farangs who don't owe the Thai government any tax money. -

Because the OP was silly enough to bring it to their attention when he in reality owns no taxes. "I need to file my taxes." "You no owe money. No need tax paper. We busy with people who owe money." "I NEED TO FILE MY TAXES!!!" "Ok, you owe us tax on your social security!" "BUT BUT BUT - My social security is exempt!!!" "You want file taxes. Ok. Pay up Farang!" They ain't gonna learn are they. -
Thai Baht Set to Weaken as US Tariff Tensions Escalate
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Maybe it would be worth writing to the Trump White House informing his cabinet and DOGE of the Thai import tariffs on US goods and request that the US in turn implements reciprocal tariffs in a Quid Pro Quo manner until such time as Thailand drops its tariffs on US imports.- 80 replies
