I got my 30-day extension yesterday, Dec 8, with 7 days remaining on the 45 exempt. What surprised me was the fact that the IO did not in the slightest check my passport number against the number I had filled in on the TM7. I even had to point out that the TM30 was stapled into my passport! She spent most of the time I was at her desk talking to my (Thai) wife and pointing out that I could instead have applied for a 60-day visa (with extension) or for a visa based on marriage (with "only" 400k in the bank in my wife's name). In other words, she appeared more interested in selling a more expensive way of staying longer term than 45+30 in the country. Weird. (Expensive? well, the extension does cost 1900 baht!)

These figures are as of December 1st. The only currency that counts is the US dollar. All other currencies are measured against it. The dollar index (DXY) has been extremely strong this past year. It has ranged from 94 to 114. It was as high as 114 as recently as September. While the pound was hit by Trussonomics and sank to 1.05, it has now strengthened thanks to dollar weakening. When the dollar was strong, the euro was at par (and less than par). And so on. Nothing much to do with Thailand or Russia.

Vancouver languishes in this "survey" simply because it is one of the most expensive cities in the whole world to buy or rent accommodation. Otherwise, it should be in the top 3 for sheer beauty and convenience. If it's "unfriendly", you've just met a person who is super-worried about how he is going to pay next month's mortgage or rent.....

Yes, because those same truckers were not denied entry into the US of A, whereas they were denied entry, if unvaccinated, into Canada. Not only did this insane demand threaten loss of jobs in Canada, many businesses suffered financial loss by the holding-up of trucks at the border. (Just by the way, those truckers were the least likely travellers to cause the spread of the already-in-decline virus. )

In the course of the week, senior police and security officials have admitted that there was no foreign interference. Also, to correct you further (surely you must be American?), the (Canadian) truckers were being forced to be vaccinated if they wanted access to Canada. They were specifically protesting the denial of their right to work and make a living bringing in provisions to all Canadians. Before demonstrating your ignorance, it would be advisable to do some reading on the subject, especially since this has been leading the news all week in all media in Canada.
