This forum has it's fair share of genuinely certified thats for sure.
As far as veggies go just wash them when you get home, no big deal. I think the worry about what is on the food does more harm than what's on there.

Never heard of Sai Ua?Chiangmai sausage? Something local made or 'really special'? Probably pork, eh. Oh, i know. A curried hot dog.
Off topic I know but the sai uaa next to Holiday Inn / Ratchawethi Hospital is just sensational...with cheese of course.

Sorry that nz cheddar is terrible tasteless rubber. Who thinks its cheese?
Anchor NZ cheddar is fine, in fact it's quite good, and it's cheese.

We buy the small ones at Rimping for 40 baht a pack, they don't sell large ones, just have to make do with what we got here. My kids love them, and they take 3-4 minutes each in the oven. Cheap and easy.

Try both, can't hurt to find out for yourself.
I'll check out the Prom one, doubt i would make the effort to venture to Lampang.

Bangkok-Chiang Mai hospital have a promotion at the moment. Heard good things about their Bkk and Pattaya operations.

I love KSK for the tasty 25 baht meals at rear food court and 10 baht ping pong. I've not seen the auditorium but everything else is dying. Would be a great venue for a horror movie thanks to the creepy back alleys and decrepit air ducts. The whole building should really be demolished, it is an eyesore. Seems pretty busy at weekends to me.
The place is full of zombies already, walking and texting at the same time....
-
Out with the old and in with the new. KSK been sliding downhill for awhile now, zero maintenance hasn't helped either. It's just been run into the ground. Maya will fill the inner city gap while airport plaza, promenada and festival fill the rest.

Was open last night.Heard from a friend the movie theatre just got shut down ...any confirmation ?
Thanks whew its a nice cinema ...would be a shame to see it shut when I come back next month
Cinema chains like that don't give up so easily. Promenada and it's cinemas are getting busier day by day, they are in it for the long run.

It was fairly busy tonight with all the decent restaurants full to the brim.
Promenada is here for the long haul.

where?
Mae Jo, behind the uni. Think it's a Dhammakaya temple, not sure of the name. But can recall Tudong something or rather.

How are the burgers at Dukes?
Best in town for sure.
Yummy pizza does good Aussie style burgers.
Hoping Carl's Jr does come to CM, top notch indeed.
Off topic i know but if anyones ever in Silom / Bkk try 25 degrees (at the front of the Pullman Hotel), heard it said (also I've said it) that it's possibly the best burger in Asia, if not the known universe.

Shopping malls represent a place to kill time and socialize (eating, etc) but not a place to shop..
They will survive b/c it's a growing part of their culture esp for middle incomers and above to hang out...It's a place to be seen and gain image points in like-minded Thais..
CM is following the Bkk model of shopping malls...
CB
Unless shopping malls find a way to profit from socializing, how can they survive? I don't think restaurants and coffee shops are enough to sustain a mall. As I noted earlier, they're dying in the USA thanks to the internet. Thailand still doesn't have much in the way of internet shopping. Most likely, that will change rapidly. It's already beginning.
Folks go to "get out of the house" also. Australia has internet shopping and the malls are still very busy.
A friend of mine in California says they are still building malls there, old ones all still popular and busy.
The internet won't take all that away.

Shopping malls are not a place to shop?
Now I have seen it all on Tvisa.com

So you don't think that at some point you ever go beyond welcoming foreigners to feeling insecure because there are too many. There are plenty of places in the world where immigration has resulted in the locals being outnumbered and very often the locals don't like it. We're not at that level yet, but at the same I think we are past the optimum. When I first came to Chiang Mai foreigners automatically got a high level of respect, irrespective of age. That certainly isn't true today and at a guess the huge increase in numbers has a large part to play In that.Farangs saying there are too many farangs here is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Just insanity creeping in.
Talk about wanting your cake and eat it too.
The Eagles once sang "you call some place paradise you can kiss it goodbye". The Last Resort / Hotel California.
Using a quote from a rock band to justify your argument isn't the most convincing of statements.
As regards to the question are they leaving? Yes they've always left, only to be replaced by new arrivals, and I don't think we're at a stage where departures exceed arrivals. Probably the reverse is still true.
Nope.
Sounds like self centred balderdash to me.
Respectfully do not agree....don't want to see Thailand Americanized/Russianized/Germanized/UKized/Japanesed/Chinesed or turned into main streets no different than a lot of places in the world....I want to see Thailand be Thailand as long as it can be (no bashing required or asked for).....that's part of it's charm.....
Hopefully the new powers that be will continue/start/monitor to handle the growth/demand/overstayers/undesireables/crooks/criminals/fringers/workers w/o permits - to control the influx.....
Growth will take place....hopefully it will be of quality - that said - watching the MacD's spring up is not a hopeful sight.....but maybe they'll play Eagles music there - somehow it matches.....
Here's another Eagles tune that suits this topic, and your post.
Growth will not run in reverse as per your wishes.
Thats part of life, change.

Have we ever had this un before?
Nimmiheadman, for sure! Reason: bustle and totty.
Just avoid Hang Dong. Too many planes and farangs.
Great place if you love traffic and the jams that go with it.
Great place if you are into cross country / obstacle course training. Thats just trying to walk down the street.
Apart from that its great.
I think you pay a price premium in that area also.
(You aren't related to Jean Claude DaamNaam, are you?)
If i told you I was him would you believe me?

When one of our oldest carp died (it was huge) Mrs. G gave it to a local in the village. He later said it was delicious.
Just be careful who you give your living ones to, Maejo Man.
MJM is no dill.

Learn to tread water in the deep end of the pool. You should be able to do this for 15-20 minutes at a time. During that time your fears will disappear.

Foreigners that make the bulk of their income from foreigners in Chiang Mai would support more foreigners here. Not a non-biased opinion I would think.
I came from a place where foreigners outnumbered "locals" (a very long time before I got there. There was a saying similar to "the last foreigner syndrome". In other words, it was ok for the foreigner with the "no more sentiments" to be there, but no newer foreigners.
What the negative part of having more foreigners in Chiang Mai probably is the foreigners that come and want to change Chiang Mai: more Western food restaurants; more shopping malls; clear footpaths (compared to before); etc. Then complaining about the way Thais run their country, cities, businesses, etc., while all the time saying that they came to Chiang Mai because of its ambiance, people, food, etc.
In Chiang Mai province, I would say there is not that big of total area dedicated to foreigners, but the areas that are dedicated to foreigner type business and activities is certainly different to what long time Chiang Mai Thai citizens are used to.
If you think they are building shopping malls and fast food places for foreigners here you are sadly mistaken.
If we all left tomorrow life would carry on without so much as a glitch.

Did not read all comments. But perhaps you know that young calves are kept in very confining cages until ready for slaughter and eating. This to reduce muscle development and keep the flesh tender. Maybe the same with these dogs. Some ethnic groups prefer dog meat, even if you don't.
Nice, you skipped the discussion and just jumped in to make a racist joke.
How civilized.
Racist? How.
There are ethic groups that eat dog, fact. Some folks in CM eat them too.
How on earth is that racist?
Thats called "reality".
