  1. Watching the video was a bit unnerving.  The farang was very compliant after he was on the beach.  He made no attempt to push the long poles away.  Never lunged at the advancing police.  He easily turned over onto his stomach which you want in order to place the handcuffs on him.  It doesn't always go that way.  When on the sand it took only one officer to put him in handcuffs.  A non-compliant person will take a lot more than one officer to handcuff him.  Try 3-5, it's not that easy.

  2. We did this through the Thai Consulate in Chicago.  We made an in person visit.  They registered the marriage and sent us copies through the mail.  Very easy.

Later we also applied in person for Thai passports for our two kids.  They arrived a few weeks later in the mail.  Much easier than doing any of this in Thailand.  This was also 30-35 years ago so it's definitely not current information.

Yes - it isn't racist though. It's divided by non-Thai, nothing else.

    BTW - 40 against 50 is wildly different from 40 against 400.

White people claiming they are racially discriminated against just shows they are racist and trying to justify their racist views bty claimiing others practice racism. THisis also incorrect as racism is based on a pseudo-scientific belief in a racial hierarchy. None of this has anything to do with dual pricing at NPs and elsewhere.

Correct.  It's more about xenophobia than anything else.  You're either a Thai or you're not.  Thais get one price, non-Thais get a much higher price.

  4. Exercise.  I still run a little bit and cycle quite a bit at Nong Bon and Skylane.

Meet up with friends I've known for years that live here.

Always on the look out for a new restaurant.

Plan my next trip either in Thailand or another country nearby.

Decide how much time I want to spend here or in my home country each year.

Only people who don't understand the difference between nationality and race call it racist.

This topic of dual pricing at National Parks falls more in line with xenophobia and nationalism than straight out racism, although it is a very fine line between them.   Xenophobia, the “fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners,” is an unfamiliar term for some. While xenophobia is similar to racism, racism is prejudiced thoughts and discriminatory actions based on differences in race or ethnicity. A person can be both racist and xenophobic.  Currently the Thai National Parks practice entrance based upon nationality.  You're either a Thai or you are not.  Yes, there are cases of Burmese and others getting the Thai price.  Easy to do if they don't say a word when approaching the ticket booth.  For a foreigner who has Thai citizenship it's a little different.  You don't see a lot of westerners that have obtained Thai citizenship but they are here as demonstrated by some of the posts on this thread.

The bottom line is that this dual pricing sucks but it is here to stay as the Thai government has no plans to change it.

I hear you, been there but she'll reap the benefits of the system when it's time to get a job, especially if she gets a degree from abroad.

Well my two luk krung kids both got their degrees abroad.  They both worked in Thai restaurants as servers to help finance their education.  The work experience was very valuable for them as neither had worked at a paying job before.  They didn't have any desire to return to Thailand.  They stayed in farang land are doing very well working in tech and commercial real estate.

Where do locals pay less? Local is in that state?    I have never  seen this in Utah or Colorado. I call BS

I don't know about Colorado or Utah, but in California at Disneyland they do have dual pricing but it isn't like in Thailand.  If you live in Southern California, let's say Huntington Beach, You can purchase a local pass which gives you a discount to enter Disneyland.  If you, from Utah, want to enter you pay the full price as would any other US citizen from any other state or foreign tourists.  It's a pass only for the locals of southern California.

You really don't need full autos, as a decent semi auto is just fine, something most didn't have in their cruisers, 20-30 yrs ago.  Now most do have, even smalls-ville suburban force, as my hometown.  To think other wise is just ignorance showing.

    Have a nice day.

Did you even read the links you posted?

Here’s the manual’s conclusion: “The ideal choice for the patrol rifle is a semi automatic rifle chambered in 5.56mm or .223 Remington.” It continues, “The two most popular (police service) rifles chambered for this round are the Mini-14 and the many variants of the AR-15. Both rifles have an extensive line of after market accessories and have a proven track record. The Mini-14 may be attractive to those departments that find the AR-15 to (sic) ‘military’ looking.”

Go back and watch the entire video that you posted.  I know I did days ago.  There is an example shown of a semi-automatic AR-15 that the police train with.  No mention of full auto because it is a not a good choice in an urban/suburban environment.  Full autos are designed for the military battlefield, not for police work which you were advocating earlier.

    Good Day sir

Do try to keep up, as most large cities / metro DO have automatic assault weapons, especially since 1997 N Hollywood shoot out.   Fast forward (01;40) & take note at the end.

Thanks for posting this video and proving my point.  At no time in the video do we see police officers using an automatic assault rifle.  If you listened to former LA police officer Rick Massa in the video he at no time states that they (the LA Police) train or use automatic weapons or automatic assault weapons.  He does state that they train with assault rifles and that is very standard.  These are semi-automatic assault rifles as shown in the video.  The difference between a fully automatic and semi-automatic assault rifle is that when you depress the trigger system on a semi-automatic assault weapon one round is discharged.  When the trigger system is depressed on a fully automatic weapon or assault weapon multiple rounds are discharged until the trigger system is deactivated.  Better yet, why don't you call up your local US police department and ask them if they use automatic or semi-automatic rifles, assault style or otherwise.
