  1. I have a couple of friends in Bangkok that are between 198 and 203cm tall.  Yes, buses, MRT, and Skytrain really suck for them as do most minivans.  Off the rack clothes are difficult to find.  Luckily there are a lot of tailors in Bangkok and it is much cheaper than in the west.  Shoes are difficult to come by when looking for size US17/49.  They do better ordering online.

  2. I've been cycling in Thailand for many years both mtn and road.  I've never been asked for ID by anyone when out cycling.  However, I do carry a copy of my passport and also an ID card from my home country.  On the copy of the passport I have local contact info as well.  I keep it in a ziplock bag along with my phone.

In some western countries especially the U.S., your family sticks you in a lousy rest home, never visits you, and let's you rot until you die. You stare at TV all day, the food is terrible and everyone stinks.

Find a caregiver here or like the suggestion, a younger lady to take care is not that difficult.

That's if you/they can afford a rest home/Sr. living center.  The cost of those are quite higher and just keep escalating.  They start at about 6,000USD a month for someone in pretty good health and can easily go up to $8,000USD and more depending upon level of care needed.

  4. I have known a few American guys that were going to marry their Thai GF's and then move back to the USA.  They had been working in Thailand for a few years but time to go back to the head office.  Instead of going the fiance visa route they instead had them just get tourist visas which they did.  They then left for the USA and after a few months got married.  Much faster and quicker than waiting for the fiance visa.  They were also issued work permits very quickly although I don't recall if many of them went to work.  I know a few enrolled at local community colleges.  However, it isn't really the route that US immigration wants you take.  It's kind of in a gray zone.  Not illegal but not what the tourist visa was designed for either.  You, on the other hand, have already made your intentions known on a public website.  Probably not the best route to go with the tourist visa now for you and your situation.

Good luck to both of you!

  5. I prefer Jomtien.  The reasons are it is quieter than Pattaya and away from the madness.  However, Pattaya is just a short baht bus ride away if I want to go over the hill to Pattaya for some night time entertainment (pre-covid of course!) or to hit the shopping malls.

I used to do the Hash Runs in the mid-80's.

I still have a 2 hour VHS tape here somewhere with a video recording of the after-run highlights... the drink truck and all the singing, drinking (in the circle) afterwards until it got dark and the beer went dry. Jessie was the Hash Master at the time (may he Rest In Peace).

We'd later kick-on back to a Pattaya bar for more drinks.  Got some video in one of the bars with DOORS music in the background.

In those days I had a BIG Panasonic Video camera that recorded on the actual VHS Video Cassette...   so, straight out of the camera and into the Video Player to watch on TV.

I can remember one night returning to the Tahitian Queen and we played part of my video on their TV.

We were all telling the dancing darlings to get out of the way so we could see the TV.

Crikey...  the guys and gals in that video would all be 36 years older if they're still around.

    Scarey!

    Still around mate!

  7. I don't think that there will be a lot of people interested in this program.  That amount of money could be better invested in other more secure areas as well as more stable countries.

A 30 year visa sounds good but how long will you be allowed to stay in country upon entry?  The US routinely issues 10 year visas to foreign nationals.  It doesn't mean they can stay in the US for 10 years.  In fact, they are only allowed to stay for six months per entry.

I first went there at Xmas 1983...  stayed at the Pattaya 11 Hotel, just near the Pitstop Bar.

Biggest and best venue in town was the Marine Bar for the nightlife, and we often frequented B.J.'s Bar of a late afternoon to watch music video's on VHS tapes and drink Kloster  or Amarit beer.

I did the Pattaya Hash runs regularly but after about 8 years I grew tired of the "excesses" of everything!

Noise pollution, water pollution and dirty beach. My last visit there was 1991!

Judging by the supplied old photographs from the 60's/70's (??) ...  so-called 'progress' was already alive and living when I was there in 1983.

My alternative beach choice in the 90's was Phuket (Patong) then Post-Tsunami,   Koh Chang.

We stopped visiting Koh Chang several years ago after a landslide from the mountain opposite our hotel took down the room/building we used to stay in.  Now...  instead of beaches I prefer drinks by the pool.

A lot of good times back then.  BJ's bar is gone now but he's still around at the northern end of the beach.  Kloster and Amarit were fun beers to drink back then, especially after a long hot day out on the hash.

    On-On!
