A small story from a Village in The North. One of my Wife's Nephew's joined the Monkhood aged 12 and his Mother made a very big show of it; 15,000 Baht to the Temple, big party for the whole Village, the Boy was Paraded through the Village on the back of a Donkey to the Temple, normal practice in these parts, lots of pictures taken of him being carried into the Temple etc etc and when all the Ceremony was over the serious drinking began and went on for the rest of the day and into the night, i've never seen so many drunk Monks in one place, and all this with the Local Police joining in as well.. ! Over the course of the next six months the Boy would come home fairly frequently to see Mum and each time he would bring money; as much as 5,000 Baht per trip and give it to Mum. I saw this happen twice with my own eyes and asked my Wife what it was all about and she said the Head Monk told him to take some money home to Mum as the Temple had too much money and if it was left at the Temple people would want to steal it. I said ..''Well; who would want to steal money from a Temple ?'' Wife said...''The Monks will steal it for Booze'' !

Steps about 50 Meters high should do it !

They need to put their money where their mouth is then and bring Childrens Car Seats down to a price people can afford; have you seen the price of them here ? Anyway; more window dressing to make it appear to The World (yes; that big place outside the Bubble that Thailand lives in ) that all is well for Health&Safety in La La Land !

Every week when we go to Supermarkets we see Monks pushing Trolly's around and buying the best quality foods and as much Whiskey as they can carry. They obviously think the best way to reach Nirvana is to eat, drink and be merry ! Still; you have to blame the naive Sheeple for giving them all the money to do it with....Idiots !

We know severql 'Teachers' and they are all only interested in the job because of the Pension. We also have a friend that works for the Government in a better job and she told us people only want to become Teachers when they can't get a better job....again for the Pension. Not many have an actual interest in teaching Children.

Shame; but predictable as it's been a Ghost Town really since the bulk Immigration moved out. Went in there about a month ago and there were less than 20 people walking around. We've lost the best Rimping in Chiang Mai !

All i can tell you is that my Deceased Thai FIL Murdered another Man with a knife in cold blood one night after a drinking session. The Man who died was his 'best friend'; who after drinking a fair bit said something FIL didn't like and out came the knife. He was sentenced to 15 years in Prison but was out in 8, never showed any remorse for the rest of his life, never cared that his 'friend' had a young wife and child that were left without any financial support, would happily tell his story of Murder to anyone who would listen. Understanding these People is difficult indeed.

And this is why things will never get any better on Thai roads !

It will be 'High Speed' until it reaches the Thai Border and then stop ! Still enough to dump all their goods at the Border and undercut Thai prices; same as the Chinese are already doing. No point in Thai Farmers and Producers complaining when their own Government is more interested in the Personal Wealth gained from buying F35's, Sub's without Engines and People Trafficking.

We have a friend who's Son gets 45,000 a month in a really good job but he's always broke because he went out and took Credit on a Crew Cab Pick-Up just for show that he didn't need and wastes loads on Gambling, Drinking, Smoking etc and instead of getting his own place or saving for one he still lives with Mum. His Mum is not happy but he's told her that he is staying there until she dies and he gets the House !

Neighbours Daughter works for a well known Supermarket and she says they are suffering from ever greater numbers of Thai Shoplifters; mainly of food items and when caught they all breakdown and say they have no money for food or to feed their Families. Timebomb waiting to explode methinks.

Anyone know of any Cat Boarders around Chiang Mai ? Can't find anywhere that will look after a Cat while we are away; must be somewhere surely ?

All understood but we are in a Country ruled by Gangsters in the cause of Gangsters. Never kid yourself that Thailand will ever be a 'normal' Democracy or that normal Democratic rules will apply; it's never going to happen !

Five years would have been more realistic. Sentences as lenient as this do nothing to improve the situation on Thailands appaling roads full of appalling Drivers and Riders !

No problem; they will get jobs washing up in a Thai Restaurant, that's what all Thai's do abroad !
