  1. RIP those lost and a speedy rceovery to the injured. Not the first time and won't be the last on Thailands crazy roads. I ride daily; mainly on quiet backroads and Country Lanes but have had a few near misses in the last 17 years, normally from Thai's cutting off bends and corners, they seem oblivious to the fact that there maybe someone coming the other way ! As for riding in the dark....forget it !
  2. A lot of it is about the usual 'Face' problem which is a horrid blight on the whole Community. Small Men with small minds and small d***s have a big 'Face' problem and to them one way to solve that problem is to have a big Black Crew Cab Pick-Up that snarls up your Tailgate on the outside lane whilst they sit on a Cushion big enough to let them see over the steering wheel; makes them look 'Strong' they say. Problem is those Trucks don't come cheap, so unless Granny will gaurantee the unpayable loan, a Motorbike with a Loud Exhaust and a Gun are much cheaper for them to exert their 'Manhood' !!
  3. They talk this junk every year at sometime but when you check out Supermarket prices very little has changed apart from pricing in the wrong direction !
  4. My Father used to say ''The difference between Heaven and Hell is Hell is what we are living '' !
  5. All nonsense; it is not a lagal rquirement to carry your Passport. Should this happen it would be advisable to insist that you be taken to the Police Station where the so called 'Cops' operate from. Carrying a Photcopy of your Passport is a good idea but again, is not a legal requirement !
  6. Majority of these people work in Government House, Police HQ and Military Bases; not much need to look further !
  7. Let's get things straight about Thai Cops at every level :- Good Cops don't nick a lot; just enough to buy Five Houses and possibly Five Cars. Bad Cops do nick a lot; buy Huge Area's of Land and Many Houses, move Money Offshore and Buy large numbers of Ferrari's, Maserati's and various other types of 'Face' Cars whilst keeping a Mia Noi and several other Women living in Rent Free Homes !
  8. Yes; if you keep only the minimum amount required in the account. However; would you rather have the 1200 Baht in your pocket or leave it for the Thai Government to take it ?
  9. Re the second part of your question....Yes; you can reclaim the Tax on your 800k and Tax on any other Savings or Fixed rate account that you have. I've been doing it for 15 years; you need to visit your local Tax Office to get details of how to claim and what's needed. Once you have claimed once they will give you a Tax Number which speeds up the process in future years.
  10. ''Under The Spotlight '' ? More like under a 60W Bulb that is about to blow ! Much ado about something that will go on forever until they start shooting participants in the back of the head Chinese style.
  11. As the country is run (controlled) by Sino Thai's it is not surprising such decisions will be made !
  12. But don't expect to see your bowl of Noodles coming down as a result of this 2 Baht reduction; more likely to go up again !
  13. The only way they are ever going to stop this and the multitude of other Corrupt practices carried out here on a daily basis is get tough....like bullets in the backs of heads, because until they do it will go on forever. Just watch how many of these Corrupt 'Officials' get sent to Prison, lose Pension entitlement, have Assets seized etc etc. Much more likely they will get transfered to an 'Inactive Post', spend a few months doing nothing on full pay and return to do it all over again !
  14. I see it like this. I have been on this Earth just short of 78 years and have experienced just about all the ups and downs of life and death (apart from my own). In that time i've heard, read and viewed accounts of Ghosts from many different sources incuding my own Mother and Father, who both had their own 'Ghost Stories'. However; i've yet to have an encounter with one and until i do i will continue to be a non-believer !
  15. Such a shame when they don't even teach them anything useful !
  16. I live in a predominently 'Red Shirt' area and every Thai person i speak to has said they will never vote for Pheu Thai ever again and there is now seems to be a desire to wipe them out at any future Election. How that would affect the overall Red Shirt situation i'm not sure but Pehu Thai have certainly shot themselves in both feet !
  17. He's doing a 'Ronnie Biggs'; the British Great Train Robber who escaped from prison and ran off to Brazil, spent all his money and then returned to Britain for free Medical Treatment before finally expiring not all that long after !
  18. The whole thing is rigged; the Stage has been set and the Farce has begun, now we just see how it plays out !
  19. Ah yes; he wants to return to breath the same polluted air as his Brothers and Sisters ! Lol.
  20. We've been using the same one for 16 years and never been asked for anything else. Can't understand what this thread is all about ?
  21. PT are shooting themselves in both feet and whenever the next Election comes around they will be ignored by most ordinary Thais !
  22. Keep an eye out for the ones arriving by Dinghy; they start with a trickle and later it becomes an Invasion !
  23. Under the bed, under the floorboards, inside walls, cash , gold, i've seen it all here but the most wealthy keep thier dosh offshore and 'invisible', often invested in property abroad.
