  1. cable/BB/adsl

    What is BB ??

To my knowledge all fixed line internet in Pattaya comes through the telephone line, CAT which is advertised as cable also comes through the telephone line, whilst that may well be "cable" its not the same as the Telstra "cable" i had back in OZ.

    True is ADSL2+ i believe.

Both CAT and True install (in Pattaya) with no need for an actual telephone connection though, i have both here and they both ran a fresh wire in from the pole out front. (i have no landline phone here).

  2. Im on the same true package, for some reason i can download a youtube clip quicker than i can stream it, infact stream is a loose word as it pauses constantly......

My actual downloads have dropped off slightly as well i used to pull 4 continuous rar files at more than 500kb each, now i hover round 300kb/400kb

  3. You don't necessarily need the International Driving Permit, as basically it's just an English translation of whatever language your original licence is in. It that original licence language is already English, ....

I simply showed my Canadian driver's licence (English) along with passport, visa, embassy confirmation of address and signed photocopies of everything. Did the colour dots test, reaction test, waited around for a while, had my pic taken and out popped my one year motorbike licence.

Could just be the helpful staff in Rayong, but it just took a bit of time. Didn't even bother that my Canuck licence was for a car and I was getting a motorbike licence here. Didn't notice? didn't care? didn't want to try explaining to me? didn't want to try putting me through some mangled-language testing procedure? No idea, but it was really very simple.

Intersting, My australian licence is also in English, I had to do the theory as i did not have an IDP, same as my work mate who holds a Michigan licence, this was at Sriracha though, maybe they are more lenient at Rayong.

Im going to Rayong for my bike licence whilst iam on Annual leave, hopefully i have an easy ordeal like yourself, hopefully they also overlook the fact i dont have an existing bike licence.

  4. There's a multi storey behind Tuk.Com but I don't know if it would be secure for an overnight / long stay.

Never seen any security gurads about.

Regardless of guards or not i would only ever park my car there overnight if i really hated the car and wanted it goooooone.

  5. you need it to expire before you get your 5 year license, so don't worry about it expiring and just get it renewed when you return and presto 5 or maybe 6 depending when your birthday is.

As long as the renewal is done within 12 months from the 1yr expiry, if not, best bring an IDP or be prepard to sit the thoery test, either result will be a 5yr licence though.

  6. Depends on what games he likes but if they are graphics intensive the laptop you mention will not be up to the job, if likes those sort of game you will need to spend 50,000 plus. Wireless N will give better range than the cheap wireless G modem/routers too.

I agree, the cheap laptops only come with shared graphical memory chipsets, not a proper graphical card. The recent games would require at least 250MB of dedicated memory but 512MB to have decent resolution settings.

Laptops are usually not intended for video game players.

I disagree, my acer lappy came with a separate GPU (512mb), cost was about 25k (albeit 2 yrs ago).

  7. Not so. Immigration will require a copy of your lease to issue a letter. On the other hand your local consulate will write down what you tell them to.

The difference is 500 baht for immigration, and 2000 baht plus from your consulate :)

    Syntax

Jebus, 500baht at immi now for a residence cert, fookin more than doubled within in 12 months, thieving coonts.

  8. It's 2.45% per year.
This still does not answer all the outstanding questions though I thank rainman for his posts. Perhaps he could add some more details.

Whose name is the vehicle in ?

Does his wife own any land or property ?

Does he know if he could have gotten this deal if he'd been a single guy without any relationship to a Thai ?

I suspect that the single guy would not get the deal and it is down to the Thai wife owning some land, whether pledged or not. I hope I am wrong !

If that interest rate is 2.45% per month, then at 30% per year, I am sure they would lend to anyone regardless of WP.

Reading not your strong point Saorsa ???
