  1. Considering there is no such thing as an international driver's licence I think you might have trouble getting one.... maybe try Khao San Road.

of course there is one. what an ignorant post. . I got mine from the trnsport dept.

You got no such thing from the transport dept. If you look at it it will say international driver permit....

a permit is not a license.

  2. how do you turn them off.... I hate them.

EDIT: just read your thread on that mazda forum, my DRL's come on when the vehicle is started, I have no taillights unless I turn on the headlights.

I don't know if your interested or not but Iam developing a discrete screen for a reverse camera.

Iam replacing the overhead sunglass holder with a new plastic piece that will house a small 4.3" screen, this will be motorised to power down when you select reverse and power back up when you move out of reverse.

Ignore the colour, I only have green for my 3D printer at the moment but it would be colour coded to the rest of the console.

Here is the concept so far.

  3. Your vehicle never had a 160km/h speed limiter but ignoring that how does a piggy back chip raise this speed limiter to 185km/h ?

How do you know it didn't have a rev/speed limiter to 160kmph? Where did you get this info from mate?

I don't know about the techy side of the commander, I just know what advantages I get from it...

I'm home now and on the way home when no one was around me I knocked it into neutral and floored it, 4,600 rpm and steady.

It's definitely limited because there's no "bouncing effect" or that could just be because it's a diesel, this is the first diesel I've owned.

The red line on the dial starts at 4,400 rpm.

So if someone with a standard D4D could do the same I'd be interest to know the rev limit is, though I'm guessing it won't be the same, where else would you get the extra top end speed from unless you start changing diff's or gearbox ratios... That's for track racers, not me.

Plug n play is good enough for me.

You talk D4D so I assume it is a Hilux/Vigo. They do have a speed limiter but it is north of 160km/h.

I really recommend you DO NOT free rev your engine like that and whilst on that subject you are changing tact from speed limiter to rev limiter which if it did have a rev limiter it would bounce on it, not rev cleanly past it.

You really do seem to be lacking in technical knowledge. How did you go with the D Commander website... I still cannot find it.

    Spoonman,

I have no doubt that I'm going to be accused of having a "caustic attitude" now but I can't put it in another way as I just don't get what you're about, apart from you being a disgruntled pisstaker...? I have no other explanation...

Are you not reading my posts again or what?

You still haven't learnt to read & digest have you???

Post #4... You need to scroll up to see it.

I wrote I have a 2005 Fortuner Turbo and I wrote it several times on the "Pick-ups and realistic fuel consumption" thread also, those posts that you replied to and obviously didn't read properly beforehand...

But anyway, to answer your question, YES, the D4D Fortuner engine is exactly the same engine as a Hilux/Vigo engine.

    I've just been chatting online to my mate in the UK (works for Shitroen... I mean Citroen) and he agreed with what I thought I knew alread;

That a Diesel engine would never have that bouncing effect like petrol engines do because they don't respond in the same way, it's all about the components weighing so much due to the heavy build design to cope with the high compression and diesels are just built like tanks.

Anyone that knows the simples about engines knows full well that a diesel will never respond as quick as a petrol, unless it has smaller pistons and a shorter stroke...

You really do seem to be lacking in technical knowledge when it comes to Diesel engines, which as an electrician I find quite easy to understand.

But I do deal with a lot diesel generators at work, which is where I leant what I do actually know.

When you refer to the speed limiter, do you really mean the governor?

Or is there something your beating around the bush at and not letting on to? can you just be a straight shooter and more specific please.

If you know something about the D4D and it's "speed limiter" or how it works let's hear it so we can all share the knowledge.

It is a forum after all, not a game show or competition.

Added to that, it's a Diesel engine, so it can take the full throttle no load without a problem, we do it at work with generators all the time to test the spark arrestors... The chief engineer says "it's perfectly alright and does no harm at all, it's good for 'em actually as diesels love a good scream to clear their lungs & guts, gets the soot out".

Never go against the chief's word

    Cheers

It is really simple. You stated before you fitted your chip gadget your vehicle was speed limited to 160km/h. After the magic box was fitted the speed limit was raised....

I cannot dumb it down anymore than that. can you pleas explain how the speed limit was raised.

Good to hear you are asking advice from qualified mates in the UK on subjects you are clearly clueless about.

  4. Adding to that comment,

I know it used to get up to 160kmph before the speed limiter kicked in

Since the Commander install it goes up to 185kmph

On the runway of the old Chiang Rai airport of course wink.png

  6. Love the article: "a bill worth Bt596,398". So does that mean that she could sell the bill for this amount? Or hold it and wait for its worth to further appreciate?

I love the copy-paste English phases here. Something "is valued at" when actually it's "priced at". A bill has "worth" although it's just a statement of an amount.

when she defaults AIS sell the bill to the debt collector it will be worth something for her to clear up the mess before her knee caps are broken.

  7. Current Ford Wildtrack 3.2L is the best small truck I've ever had. Anywhere.

200 HP, yes and easy made even stronger, no?

I read that that engine makes in another Van? 220 or 240 HP ?

BUT, why is, was so long waiting timeblink.png on that 3,2 l engine models?

Most Ford T. driving have the smaller engine 4!rolleyes.gif

The long wait was only on the automatic transmission models. this was because the transmission liked to eat themselves resulting in a very expensive fix.

  8. Searching for D Commander D 3000 ECU brings up no results.

How does this wonder thing go with Factory Warranties.... does it void them ?

Of course it voids the Toyata warranty,,, but after 3 years the Toyata warranty expires so who cares!

I was guaranteed by the guy more power and better fuel economy, if I could prove him wrong he'd have given my money back and let me keep the Commander...

The only reason I went back a couple of months later was to Wai him and say thank you, and to buy a set of wheels n tyres from him also [emoji106]

I'll correct myself on the percentage of power increase figures though, the leaflet that came with it said 33% more BHP when it's been dyno'd at 30% (not mine, but I read it on some South African site years ago, and the Torque was actually 66% increase)

Another detail I thought I didn't need mentioning but as I'm being doubted/being called a <deleted> Liar so much... There's a switch that's also installed down by the mirror adjustment switch (remember I have the 2005 Fortuner), this switch is used to select between city and highway modes, up for city - down for highway to get the most out of the economy... I just leave it on highway mode as that gives the most power, it won't even stay in the up position now anyway...

Don't forget that I use "what I believe is" the best diesel on the market, Shell Nitro Power, although it changed it's name some years ago I've always put the the DB's She'll Diesel in it and the virtually smokeless exhaust shoes the engine appreciates it [emoji106]

What search engine are you using? I tend to use google... stick yahoo where the sun don't shine, it's pants mate.

Here's my top 2 hits from google: google translate is <deleted> too. If you don't do Thai you could ask your good lady to translate...

Ok maybe I should have said I cannot find the manufacturer of this wonderbox when I search google.....

  9. The Ford is awesome. That is if you want something that randomly breaks down and the service dept cannot diagnose (after it has sat there for weeks before they even look at it) then have the audacity to say it is your fault so your warranty is void.

Ohh and we should have told you before we pull it apart that you should involve your insurance company incase we do void your warranty. But because we forgot to tell you this and we have pulled it apart your insurance is also void.

The above is not isolated to Thailand either.

  10. Nearest ive cme to running into someones rear has been for 2 Reasons. Firstly , not reading set ups for hours .Secondly fiddling with the bloody gadgets when driving. Sat Navs, Cameras,Music,Phones ive given upon now im older. That Camera Sucker would fall off in a week ,just like my old Garmin.thumbsup.gif

Buy yourself a top spec mazda 3. it won't allow you to run into the car in front.... as long as you are doing 30km/h or less.

On topic though I just fitted a blackvue wifi dr550gw-2ch camera set-up to my car. works a treat, video quality is amazing. After 5 minutes of inactivity it goes into parking mode (it records 24/7, but will switch off when vehicle battery level is low to prevent flat battery) and comes alive when movement is detected. The wifi has a range of about 10 metres so I can sit here at my desk and open the app on my phone and see what is happening with the car or play back vids already recorded.
