  1. On my last visit to Jomtien, I recall seeing a string of mega-condo projects along Jomtien 2nd road (I believe) when heading south.

Central festival was flooded with sales counters manned by Russian speaking staff who were pushing shoe-box sized condos in these projects.

Out of curiousity, with the recent crash of the Ruble, what's the state of these projects?

    Cheers

  2. Mates,

On my next visit to Pats I consider purchasing a watch for personal use, something decent and reliable. I'm not planning to splurge, but not looking for cheap Chinese fakes either.

Where would you suggest shopping? Central festival? somewhere else?

    Cheers

  3. 77 cents seems to be the magical figure where exporters are happy and importers can still gouge Australian consumers and blame it on exchange rates. For those of us living in Thailand with Australian dollars in the bank, we will probably be looking at something south of 25 baht to the dollar if the baht maintains its current strength against the greenback. Tough if you're already trying to make ends meet here but for most tourists I still think the cost of airfares and accommodation will continue to make Thailand an attractive destination, and as long as Thailand remains a low wage country with relatively good infrastructure I just dont see that long-awaited devaluation happening. We can all gaze longingly at the 32 baht highs on the 2Y chart, but IMO those days are well and truly behind us.

It seems unlikely that a country which is so heavily dependant on tourism & exports can afford to have its currency appreciate for a long time. It wouldnt be a surprise if a devaluation occurs soon, possibly by cutting bank interest rates.

  4. In June 2015 the Ruble/baht exchange rate was around 0.961, and is now at around 0.859, more than a 10% drop.

Its likely that the Russian which are here didnt cancel their trip because of Draconian cancelation policies over there, and are now trying to spend even less to minimize the impact of this depreciation.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the depreciation of the Ruble continues, and what will the impact on Pattaya would be.

  5. I need to get from Jomtien to the LO, with either motorbikes/baht buses, and I dont want to pay arms and legs. Of course I can get a motorbike taxi from Jomtien, but that would be dear.

Whats the best approach? maybe a baht bus from Jomtien to somewhere on 2nd road and then a motorbike taxi to the LO?

    Cheers

  6. Hi,

I'm holding a single entry 60 days tourist visa. I've extended it by 30 days. It will expire on sep. 12.

I need to be in Singapore around sep. 5, leaving in the morning & returning in the evening same day to thailand. Flying from Suv. Airport.

Question: upon my return to thailand on Sep.5 what visa will I be on? Is the tourist visa still valid since I've left & returned in the same day?

or will I be granted a new 30 day visa-on-arrival (I'm eligible for the latter)?

    Cheers

  7. Say a person needs a lawyer/real estate agent to represent them in a transaction.

That person is currently on a tourist visa and in Thailand, but will be leaving shortly.

The transaction is scheduled to take place 2 months later. At that time the tourist visa would have expired for 2 months or so .

If that person signs a Power of Attorney for the lawyer/Agent while in Thailand and then travels back overseas, will the land office still accept the Power of Attorney?.

Is there some additional document which can be added while in Thailand to ensure the Power of Attorney would be valid while tourist visa has expired?.

Please, only knowledgeable replies, no "guesstimates" .

    Cheers
