  1. Except for our marriage, I never needed a translation of my passport ever again. So I wouldn’t worry if they kept it.
  2. Not possible. Just transfer directly to son/wife.
  3. Foreigners can’t be registered in the blue book; but they can in the yellow book. Whenever you need a proof of address, the yellow book is invaluable.
  4. Like asking is it safe to leave a handbag/ backpack in a car. No it is not. And you can’t trust that the security camera actually works.
  5. Sweetened condensed milk 45cal/tbsp. Evaporated milk has 15cal/tbsp. Both used liberally in chaa-yen; I’d say 3 condensed and 5 evaporated. And there’s probably sugar syrup added as well.
  6. I’d rather be old and lonely in my country than stay here. So, go home.
  7. Report passport lost. Go to embassy get temporary passport. Go to immigration. Get temporary stamp until you get new passport. Hiding is not a solution, esp afterwards when you have to sort out the mess.
  8. He knows of the tradition. He can also say ‘no’. And if the gf stays, that’s a good sign. If not, lucky him.
  9. It’s the places you frequent. But there are plenty of decent people here. (And I’ll gladly share your opinion that there aren’t plenty of loonies here too.)
  10. Historically it was a way to show their difference from England. A way to be different (and then become independent). “Let’s do it differently than the English oppressors.”
  11. If you start, you’ll lose. In one way or the other. This is a matter between your gf and her son. Stay out of it. (Esp as a foreigner.)
  12. Could be excessive for the heater… the threads are only plastic. I wouldn’t add some heavy complicated contraption underneath. Esp not one with valves that need to be turned. Maybe a flexible hose into a wall-mounted T-joint, and then with a valve each on the outgoing ends of the T. Also consider the distances and placement of the heater. You might end up with very little water pressure on one or both ends. And review max. incoming water pressure for that specific model. You don’t want to burst the tank/heating element (esp if it’s made of plastic like some manufacturers do).
  13. From my experience, any valid driver’s license (Canadian or German, for example) helps to get a Thai one - as in, no written or practical driving tests are required. An “Int’l License” (which is merely a translation of your local license) is not sufficient.
  14. Meh, it was great (20 years ago) but since then steadily declining. Now it’s just an expensive trap of hiso coffee shops for tourists.
  15. Yes, please share. That would be appreciated. Thanks.
  16. Returning items is not a thing here. I wouldn’t even have tried. Don’t be surprised if two people give you different answers. (Unless you were talking in fluent Thai to them.)
  17. Yes, you have. I’ve been here for 20+ years and am settled. Now, fresh off the boat, I wouldn’t consider it anymore.
  18. Depends. Do you worry about being alone if the relationship ends? Can you find a new partner easily? (Might end up alone. Might get hurt even more.) What is the partner willing to do to make up for their mistake?
  19. Code or key. Same same. But… even if it’s wrong for the landlord to have it you will most likely have 0% chance of changing the situation (unless you resort to self-help which would annoy your landlord - both of which are not advisable).
  20. Lots of air deflectors for A/C available on Lazada/etc.
  21. If you want to grind your own coffee means that it’s important to you. Even for a mocha where you want/need uniform fine. Get a decent one, is my recommendation.
  22. Many times the seller does not respond to your return request within the timeframe (48h ???) and the money gets refunded automatically. Then you’ve gotten the money and are left with the item too.
  23. A few times I’ve been directed into a handicapped spot by the parking attendant. At this point I don’t care anymore; if I don’t take it, another Bon handicapped driver will. If directed so, I’ll take it. Hoping to keep it free for a real handicapped person is wishful thinking.
  24. Maybe it depends on the item…? I returned two purchases last week. And many more over the weeks before. Never had an issue.
