  1. We went there yesterday (also after having moved a bit further out of town). It was busy as usual but the toilets for the entire complex were out of service. Weird.
  2. Based on my experience, for a normal funeral they should break even (cost VS monetary gifts) or even have something left over. The more people come, the cost of food per person goes down while the total of monetary gifts goes up. Was involved in the planning of a few funerals and surprised how cheap the food was.
  3. He didn’t watch enough Judge Judy to know that was a bad decision.
  4. I can relate to a small degree. After many weeks backpacking throughout China in the mid 90s, we were thrilled to see something from home (“Friends,” which I hated then and still do). But that was after many weeks of strenuous backpacking only.
  5. Nothing that I can’t easily ignore. Otherwise I wouldn’t have chosen to be here.
  6. Yes (Chaengwattana area).
  7. Have not seen any news articles about an Aussie teen on Koh Tao. What’s the story?
  8. I’ve noticed this for many months already. So annoying. Hate buying the little milk cartons and too cheap to buy the .8L milk from the fridge section. ???? Asked wife many times jokingly what’s going on. Apparently nothing that would make the Thai news. So who knows?
  9. A google search found 5% + 3.3%. I think you should contact Customs Department. They can communicate well in English (email) and are very helpful (based on my experience). They’ll provide you with a link to their humongous database where you can find the tax rates for every conceivable item to be brought into Thailand.
  10. It was much easier for me in Bangkok. (No friend or witness, no interview, no pictures.) It took a few minutes and 55 Baht to get ID card. Have had it for a few years now and have never really used it, nor have noticed any benefit in having it.
  11. Watch Judge Judy. A gift is a gift not a promise to remain friends.
  12. Not surprising. You got involved where you shouldn’t have.
  13. An acquaintance sent 3 WD HDDs away under warranty. It took months, but he got replacements. Nice. Two of my WD HDDs died. To me, the lost data is more important that replacement. Now I only buy Seagate. And the drives connect via a docking station.
  14. I appreciate my faults being pointed out by competent individuals. Are you? Care to elaborate in what ways I’m weak?
  15. Snarky because you don’t like to hear the truth? You want to change the world? Good luck. Maybe try that in your home country first. We’re only guests here. Life’s not fair, I agree, but who are we to change the reality?
  16. So the owner can do whatever he/she wants; and the employee is free to leave any time. Don’t like it, leave.
  17. Not working because no customers is different than not working because absent. It is a guaranteed loss of potential income for the business. No customers is a risk the business takes, the risk of loss due to absent staff can be negated by the business. If that’s what her contract says, and she agreed to it, then that’s that.
  18. We have always had to submit both of our tabian baan (my wife’s and mine). I assume to show that we’re renewing my marriage visa in the province both are registered.
  19. Hahaha. That’s a good one. (I was given an A5 page with smily faces to rate my satisfaction. My wife said don’t be mean. I said I’m being honest.)
  20. Glad you had a good experience. Mine was bad all along. Terrible broadband Internet that I had to cancel long ago. Last year, four months of waiting to get a non-functioning landline repaired. Nothing. Then I canceled my landline, followed by months of bills including late fees and fines. Dealt with TOT over the phone and in person. Glad it’s finally all done and over with. (No more spam calls is another major bonus.)
  21. Like most brands, Samsung also has hits and misses. The very cheap ones are made by TCL and rebranded as Samsung. You get what you pay for.
  22. I bought mine from Powerbuy (walk-in). Got the online price, confirmed next-day delivery, free installation, and free removal of the old machine. Not saying that online is a bad choice, just saying that walk-in can also be excellent and super easy.
  23. Agreed. Or go to any supermarket and buy the cockroach poison that’s sold in a small tube (250-ish baht). I think it’s from Beyer. Works great and only needs a tiny amount.
  24. No. Helgoland. Nepal.
