  1. eeeuh which country you are complaining about now ??? you sure lost me, Take a valium and have a good sleep.

hmmmz, perhaps you should have posted a ruler to every member before posting that, or even found out what a paragraph was. :o Sorry if u mentioned within your post that it was a piss take, but I could'nt be fvcked with reading it, I was starting to feel ill :D

I think that he was saying that it is somewhat more expensive to live in a developed country ( with a welfare system ) than it is to live in a developing one without welfare. It took a massive paragraph, whereas one or two lines would have sufficed. An Introduction to Basic Economics. :D

I thought he was more Victor Meldrew than Alan Greenspan :D

  2. Tornado take you hate somewhere else eh?  Its clear to see where you are trying to go with this...

Sorry Sully but I didn't see any hate, just a concern that sympathy and compassion to the victims in this war seems to be often a little one sided.

  3. Have you heard about any crop circles in Thailand?

There are many of them in England, what do you think of this phenomenon?

I think the difference is the presence of the 'Young Farmers Clubs' in the UK. A right bunch of aliens after a few too many :o

  4. English is about successful communication. One goal in that process should be clarity and ease of understanding, rather than tripping over words that just don't 'sound' right to us- whatever it is that sounds natural to us.....

You've hit the nail on the head. The beauty of English is its adaptability, as much as BBC English might be aspired to, the language is readily accessible and understandable at a very basic level. For all the complexity that can be applied, in reality simple English functions well enough without it.

  5. Sleeping out in a bivvy bag in Africa I've always relied on a circle of rope; it's probably <deleted> but I've never had a snake in my bivvy :o

This is not slightly off topic but totally off topic, what did you do in Africa? I spent quite some time in West and Southern Africa, traveled through 8 countries and slept in tents. We've had a variety of animals close to the tent, Hippos being the largest threat. I remember having to go to pee but didn't dare to leave the tent because of some Hippos searching for food near the truck. Hippos have a serious problem in that sense that they try to find the shortest route to the water when in danger, regardless of what's being in between them and the water.

    Cheers

    An exploration geologist.

Spent three years in Tanzania where we used bivvy bags for short camps, we'd set up a thorn bush screen and bivvy round the fire. Not that there's much wildlife left outside the game parks, a few hyena maybe and a leopard very very rarely, and they only caused problems to the local livestock farmers.

I've worked in several African countries over the best part of 15 years, but only used bivvy bags in Tanzania.

  6. I think that the "CNN" test of intelligibility might apply here.  As you probably know, CNN employs announcers and commentators with a variety of accents.  They are apparently understood by most CNN viewers.  Perhaps English teachers should aim at this standard of intelligibility.  :o

    Eye-rack and Shah-roan!

Stick with the BBC please! :D

  7. What you can do for the house, is to constantly sprinkle a little sulphur on the parameters of the house, or onto where they usually enter the house. It works like a reppellant.  :D

The ring of sulphur seemed to work on my house in Malaysia. We had a couple of Kraits come visiting. They got in to the house and the maid called the fire brigade who came and took them away, alive, I don't think they killed them. The firemen suggested we sprinkle a line of sulphur around the entrances. No more snakes.

Sleeping out in a bivvy bag in Africa I've always relied on a circle of rope; it's probably <deleted> but I've never had a snake in my bivvy :o

  8. I can say this that you never believe a cop he has his interest im place first and then the truth. I say this having been a speacial agent for US goverment for twenty years. That said everyone is innocent in prison. In US maybe as high as 40% are. That said again in the teriost times it gives rise on both sides of the coin who is right(liberals and conservatives.

    ###### they weren't even part of the equation when the consitition was written

You know most blame the UD today for the worlds voes but really this century an d last 50 years wars was the result of the English, French, Spainish , Dutch and Portugese colonizims . The Americans have cleaned up the srewups of everyone else for a century or better. They themselves are still striking out in thier old boy networks

Please can I have this in English! :o

  9. After 25 years of working and living abroad my first rule is:

'Never to set your expectations too high.'

That way you're more often than not pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed. That rule also applies to returning to your country of origin after a long stint away :o

  10. I am confident that many of us  would rate Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra  as one of the world's most able statesmen.

Yeah, he's getting right up there alright, Payne. World class. Anyone selling shares in Sycophants United FC? :D

I think Mr Payne is still sucking up for his Privilege Elite Card. :D

Check back to a poll on 'Would you fork out 1 million for a VIP card', if I remember rightly he was about the only person with a good word to say for it.

Another one our glorious leaders splendid ideas! :o

  11. "What a load of crap, small minded and bigoted at that!''

And I see that you even got the lefty liberal "B" word in there,,well goody on you, even if your eye do look like little x's :D

    What's wrong with my eyes?

They look just like that in bright sunlight after a beer too many the night before :o

  12. Seriously, this is a good year to do something about getting better Embassy services.

Take a look at www.fco.gov.uk and find "UK International Priorities: A Strategy for the FCO".

Thanks for that, I'm just downloading it, I'll ponder at my leisure.

  13. we didnt lose india they just nearly all moved to the uk

DID NOT; most of em moved to the USA and now own all convenience stores, self service gas stations, and all motels, except the expensive ones.

And when you try to do business with them, they give you the same snotty shit that you would get from a Brit.consular center.

But the real reason that England lost India was because they used beef suet for water proofing their paper powder cartridges and the turbans refused to tear them open with their teeth,so therefore no more shots were fired. :o

What a load of crap, small minded and bigoted at that!

India gained it's independence because it had fought (peacefully) for it, and in a post WWII world, Empire was an anachronism. Apart from which, a financial drained UK was in no way able to look after itself let alone its colonies.
