  1. Joe, upon birth of our children, they were given a small book which kept track of all required vaccinations and when they needed to be administered, maybe that's a starting point? Each hospital should have these books.

grrrrr why the hell didn't they tell me that when i was standing right in front of them to ask? my old lady has a book for each of the kids but she hasn't found anything in any of them regarding a name of a potential disease and a vaccine in relation to it. she's thai btw so reading through them isn't a problem. i don't think it's too much to ask to know what these vaccines are and where they are from considering we are in a part of the world where you can expect practically everything to be fake.

is there anything like the CDC here in thailand, that could be used as a "reputable" source for this kind of information? any of these vaccines that originate in asia are highly suspect as far as i'm concerned.

Of course, it is called the Thai Ministry of Public Health. http://eng.moph.go.th/ (the Thai language website has more on it than the english one does)

Thailand's immunization schedule conforms closely to WHO recommendations. This link gives the immunization schedule http://apps.who.int/...esult.cfm?C=tha

Counterfeit pharmaceuticals are not a major problem in Thailand, with the notable exception of a few things prominently marketed to foreign tourists (Viagra etc) which are in fact not legal for over the counter sale in Thailand.

The quality of local pharmaceutical production varies by the manufacturer but in no instance is it as bad as you seem to assume, and there are local pharmaceutical manufacturers (as well as local subsideries of international pharma firms) turning out good quality products.

That said, if you nonetheless feel you want only imported vaccines, this can certainly be done. Just get the vaccination at a private hospital and specify you want an imported vaccine. (For some vaccines, only imports are available whereas for some of the longer-standing ones like DPT there are both imported and locally manufactured brands).

thanks for the info Sheryl. i forgot about this one once it was moved out of my home forum. will take a look at those links.

  2. Morals is not taught by their families anymore and they don't listen to the monks either. It's like you say, "make hay while the sun shines".

Yes, but by the same token, they don't go on violent rampages through city centers like teens in certain developed western countries.

I'm pretty sure that some of the Thai teens were wearing either yellow or red shirts in recent years, hope you didn't forget about those events.

or having violent shoot outs with "rival" technical schools

  3. This woman is scum, but i suspect the father is scum too.

Knocking up a woman and then splitting is low life also.

Obviously strangling a baby is far worse than abandonment, but both are inhumane if you ask me.

It amazes that so many men do not wrap it up when having sex here in Thailand. A girl that can kill her own child probably doesn't think much about STDs either.

And another winner BF waiting for his GF to finishing having her baby and hurry up to come party with him, probably another person we can all do with out.

i think it's a bit early to cast judgement on the first BF, he may or may not have even known she was pregnant. story doesn't give those details.

the new bf was apparently in the dark as well, read the story, she killed the baby so that he wouldn't find out. he was hardly waiting for her to finish so that she could come and party with him.

  4. Hopefully this will answer all of your questions because you are obviously so full of your own importance that you need to know.

Kindly remember that these questions are pertinent to anyone who does a Visa Run and would be better answered by those running the company in my opinion.

My best wishes for your wife's speedy recovery.

i was asked to donate towards the hospital bills for someone that wasn't covered by the visa run companies insurance. does it make me full of my own importance that i would like to know whether there was, in fact, insurance coverage for the passengers?

  5. keep an open mind.

Good advise for you to heed Big C, your posts are coming across as very lynch mob like.

Good advice for all the posts on the thread I would say. Wait and see.

Meanwhile there is the issue of the fundraiser etc....it just doesn't all add up.

yes, and now i'm quite curious about this fundraiser. i was asked to donate something for someone in the hospital that had no insurance, and i did. a terrible spot to be in for sure and i hope he recovers, but i'd like to hear a follow up on this insurance issue. without any suitable explanation for the insurance coverage or lack of, i'd probably feel less inclined to donate again in the future without feeling like i'd have to play sherlock to avoid getting scammed. unfortunate that someone is in critical care through no fault of their own, and even more unfortunate that there is perhaps less focus on his care because of this confusion.

  6. Right Rooo. Samui not for me anymore. Lived there from 89 to 09 and saw it getting from a little paradise to a dump.

Only two weeks ago, you where looking for a rental on Samui.

    Hi there,

I'm looking for a long term appartment or house rental in the 5k/month region. Thank you for your ideas.

OK, you could not find a decent housing for 5K.

    Stop trolling.

    oops!

  7. All of the original posters points are valid, he just did not realise that negative posts are frowned apon by the expat members with local business interests because telling it like it is, might keep the tourists away.

really? did you talk to him and that's what he told you?

  8. my house is loaded with macs, iphones and ipads but i don't think i'd ever buy any of them here in thailand. the markup is redonkulous. i would consider them for "authorized" service but that's about it.

While I am not sure what stores charge, if you buy Apple products from the Apple website your post is totally false. The markup is very small compared with the U.S. and MUCH less expensive than in Europe. Given that you do not pay tax since you are getting the products from China or Singapore you likely pay even less than in the U.S. Know your facts before posting.

you are an XXXXXXXX. know your role before speaking.

  9. it's really no problem at all to drive to langkawi from samui. barely even need a map. the biggest hassle is getting the translation done from thai into something sensible regarding your license plate, then insurance at the border.

you can skip the hassle by driving to hat yai, parking your car , and then catching a bus directly to langkawi.

it takes roughly 5 hours to drive to the sadao border crossing from donsak. an hour less to get to hat yai.

it's no problem to make it to langkawi in the same day, even with the time change, provided you leave on an early ferry and drive with a purpose.

if you leave on either the first or second ferry out of samui, you can quite easily make the afternoon bus out of hat yai to all points south, sadao, langkawi, penang etc.

  10. Big C - ground floor. There is a stall selling kids toys. Seen a helicopter there once, no idea what else he might have and/or quality.

i've seen everything from r/c helos to gliders and submarines in this shop. even air soft guns. never seen an actual r/c airplane though but it would at least be a good place to start.

  11. there used to be a place in north chaweng called out of africa, i think. run by some south african guy(s).

amazing lamb chops, probably the best i've ever had but they closed up shop after the first few times i ate there. i tried the place using the same name in lamai but it was nowhere near the quality as the one in chaweng.

if they have opened up in another location using either the same or a different name i'd like to hear about it, they were certainly my choice for grilled meats.

  12. get a cat, i have 2 stray cats that patrol, and they will chase away or eat the snake

get yourself a poodle or other lap dog like the ones that thai's seem to think is mandatory for every motorbike ride and they'll protect your yard for sure.

    they arnt that helpful lol

    snake.jpg

most important i think is that the snake is not going to sneak up on the dog, they trip the dog alarm well in advance and that is what really matters for a situation like in the OP. it's not a fight to the death but an alarm system.

looks like this dog forgot to put his alarm on

    biggrin.gif

i'm not as concerned with any of those lap dogs surviving that encounter as i am with a human baby. chances are that that little yap yap yapper didn't get eaten without telling everyone in the neighborhood what was going on. that's what really matters to me. at the rate that soi dogs are breeding around here, and the few snakes i ever see around here anymore, we could use a few more snakes to keep the dog population under control.

  13. There is number portability in Thailand now, you can keep same number and change from 1 operator to another like Ais to Dtac or True.

i've tried this already to switch my dtac service to ais. have had the same number since the day i got here but dtac service at my house is complete crap, have to stand on the porch to make or receive calls and they are typically bounced off of a tower on phangan first.

ais at tesco said "yes, can do. you need to go to bangkok because we cannot do here"

i'm pretty much immune to this sort of utter stupidity now so just shook my head and walked out.

  15. keep your grass cut, trim any trees in the yard so that they aren't touching your house, get a subwoofer and play some funkadelic music and you'll be alright.

i've got a few kids and i'm more concerned about the chemicals. if you are really really concerned, get yourself a poodle or other lap dog like the ones that thai's seem to think is mandatory for every motorbike ride and they'll protect your yard for sure.

i just had a snake in my yard for the first time in years yesterday. tried to take up residence in my engine compartment and after a brief sojourn on my hood when i left yesterday has now relocated to the side of the road in ban tai somewhere.

  16. lol i've been asking around and some thai lady just told me "oh you need to get waxine for protect when man smoke"

this stupidity is exactly what i'm trying to avoid.

my office manager has just told me that she used to work with a "farang lady" who imported vaccines as she too thought that anything found locally is suspect. this is probably the direction that i'm heading...
