  1. Reminds me of something...................

Was deadly in love some years back, good girl, good family in the U.S. We were engaged to be married.

She had a younger sister, 18, truly a blossom, and same as you every once in awhile, I caught her looking at me "sort of funny".

So at one point the 18 year old sister was to move out of the family house, had got her own place, and as I had a pickup truck, I was nominated to help with the move. Coincidentally enough fiancee and parents were out of town seeing friends regarding the impending wedding.

So I show up Saturday morning and the little sister is all excited that I am there to help. I head up the stairs and into her room and she immediately turns and says "you know I have always had a thing for you, and now that we are alone I think we should jump in my bed" and starts to strip her clothes off.

Now here is the finest bit of Americana you can ever imagine and as I sat there and ponderd for a moment I realized I didn't have any condoms on me. I tell her "be right back".

As I head out the door to my truck, I am surprised by my fiance, father-in-law who is grinning and shakes my hand, mother-in-law who says "congratulations, you passed our test, we knew you were the right one for Lacey (my fiance)".

Morale of the story: always keep your condoms in the car.

Authority handed over buoys for local boaters at Rai Ley beach in support of eco- tourism

Deputy permanent Secretary of Interior Mr. Phranai Suwannarat handed over the boat mooring buoys to Krabi governor Prasit Osatanond to pass on to boat operators off Phranang bay and other designated zones. Niyom Piewdee, a local community leader said the move follow cooperative efforts among related offices, local government and boaters to tidy up and maintain the pleasant scene of the tourist bay which hopefully lead to sustainable tourism development around Phranang – Rai Lay bay. The buoys would help boaters to moor their boats in the designated zones, leading to tidiness and tourist safety. The Krabi governor took the opportunity to encourage all stakeholders to take good care of environment there.

weekly Andaman News NBT TV (VHF dial) at 8.30am & repeated on satellite C Band (usually net black) frequency 4134 Mhz at symbolate 2530 at 1pm & perhaps repeats on Phuket Cable TV channel 1 at 3.30pm, 7pm, 1.30am & 6.30am, broadcast to Phang Nga, Krabi & Phuket provinces , Friday 12th March 2010 & http://thainews.prd.go.th/newsenglish/ & www.YouTube.com/AndamanNews

and how do buoy moorings relate to the topic of out of control beach vendors ruining the beaches?

  3. Classic Fortuner driver story.

Once had a guy pull into a restaurant in Chalong in his Black Fortuner and he parks perpendicular to everyone else, blocking in some people who were working at the offices next door. He gets out and he's this little farang guy (Napoleon Syndrome with the big car), meanwhile his Thai wife with kids in another car parks normally in the lot parallel with all the other cars.

I say to him, "excuse me, but you cannot park like that, look at what you are doing to those people".

He gets all huffy, tells the wife to get back in her car, and then he gets in his Fortuner and tears out of the lot, screeching tires and all. Complete as*hole.....

  4. The guy married a bargirl.......................................................enough said.

I'm still with mine after 19 years.........................................enough said.

Consider yourself the exception then, as an odds and probabilities guy, I would say you are in a ten percentile.

  5. What's truly a joke about the whole situation and shows the hypocrisy of Thailand is right where the guy was stopped is a reggae bar, with the red gold and green flags, marijuana leaf symbols, etc. They might as well put out a sign "pot for sale here".

The cops could stop everyone walking out of there, and 75% would have pot on them. But they make a point with this one guy and his one joint..................ludicrous.

  6. Biggest mistake was ordering the glass of Mont Clair.

Stuff has added fruit juice in it, horrible product. The people who sell this wine are strictly after the price point.

Isn't wine fruit [grape] juice fermented?

You are absolutely correct, but there is generally a difference between what we call "country wine" and traditional "wine".

Many fruits can be fermented, i.e. a popular country wine here in Thailand is pineapple wine.

Although I haven't tried it another "bang for your buck" product is this Peter Vella, not sure if it's reconstituted but in my opinion just about anything is better than Mont Clair.

  7. only reason i can think of for the lights is safety but do they really install lights because of that reason here?

i live on saiyuan and coming from the circle i obviously have to turn right often there and the wait is never that long even for cars that i see.

i think it is pretty dangerous though especially when turning right towards rawai when coming from saiyuan road because of the bad visibility

    lets see how they work...

Also when turning right onto Sai Yuan from Viset, I do it regularly Monday-Friday and have had numerous close encounters. The most frightening being when as wtk describes someone pulls out turning right onto Viset toward Rawai, the oncoming traffic swerves directly at those of us turning onto Sai Yuan.

Although not a cat, I was getting close to my nine lives number after 5 years of that routine.........lets see how they work.

  8. Toyotas account for between 40-45% of all vehicles here, so it's not that statistically a stretch to have two toyotas in an accident. If there were two seperate yugo accidents, that would be something else.

Add on top of that the "Fortuner mindset" (I'm in this beast of a vehicle, GET OUT OF MY WAY!), and it's a wonder the stats are high regarding Toyotas and accidents.

  9. There are no quality guitars shops here selling the likes of Fender, Gibson, PRS, etc. but keep an eye in the local classifieds for private sales, I've seen a few good ones at times.

If you're after a cheaper guitar, I've noticed a shop along Chaofa Road East, coming from Phuket Town on the right hand side, more or less just as you've left Phuket Town.

Friend of mine who is a musician in BKK was talking up Crafter Guitars.

Pretty sure a few of the shops in Phuket town sell them, 10-18,000thb.

There is a music shop just around the corner from the road that has all the banks on it.

  10. Not a smart move.

Nobody enforcing this at Nai Hairn. Saw a lady I know with her two dogs last Sunday, was embarrassed to approach her as they looked more like furry rodents, I knew I would say something and make her mad, and some other people had their pug with them.

  11. Thank you every one for all your help but I need help on this.

Just remember someday you will need help too.

Joe, please understand this is a sleepy forum.

On the main board notice views and replies compared to other forums here, low numbers. So it's not that there are people not willing to help, just not people here.....

Part of the fun of travelling is "winging it" don't be so caught up in planning ahead, as I mentioned, you'll figure it out as you go. I guarantee you (unless you are arriving at 2:00 in the morning) there will be shared options to get to Ao Nang from the bus station, as mentioned by the other poster around 70thb.

Also, be sure to spend a little time in Krabi Town. Good food to be had on the river, better prices when shopping. Spend an afternoon walking around there, worth it.

    Have fun!

  12. I meant to refer only to the bottled stuff (Bin 6 and Bin 9 I think) as not tasting too bad. I tried the boxed Montclair at a local bar and it was not nice. Maybe this explains it.

Are you saying that the 3 litre bottles of 'Celebration red' are not the same as the boxed stuff with the same name?

sorry Mitch, the only thing I can directly say I have knowledge of is the converstaion regarding the boxes and how they could keep 5L at a price so low.

    Why

You're right Fredob43, best you and your friends not come here.

I've grown super weary of wanke_rs and yahoo holidaymakers who end up as road carnage, or beat up by a tuk-tuk guy for not paying the price of the tuk-tuk already negotiated.

Those of us who live here, like it here, those that wonder why, best stay away.

  13. Fruit juice? Where do you get that info from?

Montclair tastes OK and is about the only wine in Thailand that could be deemed reasonable value.

Just talking about the 5L box, do you think with the import tax on wine here (close to 400%), you could get that South African 5L box at the price it is?

That wine comes in as concentrate, therefore, fruitjuice, not wine, no big duty levied on imported "wine".

They reconstitute the crap and box it here in Thailand, a little pomegranate juice in the red, don't know what they use in the white, probably grape juice and there ya go, bargain "wine".

The red is tolerable, the white I recommend as a stain remover, nothing more. If you're a super cheap swill guzzling yachty, perfect,if you are somebody who actually enjoys wine, pass.

  14. if you were actually told not to park there and you did, then that's your bad. a few scratches on the car better than being attacked with a wooden umbrella stake.

More frustrating for me in Ao Nang is how they allow the motorbikes to take the car parking spots. There are designated spots for the bikes, but people still take the limited car spots for their bikes.

P.S. a little nettiquette, turn your cap locks off, capital letters means you are yelling. Thanks !!

  16. well now if we can get them to have the UBC package with the ASN network, we might have a replacement for Don's Saloon. Might.......

Grumpy its nothing like Dons, check it out yourself and you will see what i mean.

not going to find something like Don's, just need a viable replacement.

  17. Thanks Steven, I was intending to be in Patong, if anywhere as it happens. Could you recommend a nice hotel close to all the nightlife, and the festivities of Songkran, as I may have a "Songkran first timer" accompanying me? Budget is not really an issue, just somewhere smart, conveinient, decent restaurant, pool, etc.

    Thanks

The Burasari, you are very close to Patong Beach Road where the mayhem will occur, and walking distance to Bangla.

  18. Don't know the cost but has to be very cheap, it's a blue bus with bench seats that has written on the side of the bus Ao Nang-Krabi Town-Airport.

Never used it, but have seen it, just ask one of the local tour desks on the road there.

I realize you are excited about your trip, but understand most of this stuff you'll be able to cover with no problem once you are there.

    Have fun.
