  1. If thats true.. did you clock the plate ??

Really if theres a predator out there that visible.. And you think its the same guy.. Something needs to happen now before someone's attacked (not that GG wasnt but you know what I mean).

sorry, did not see the plate, thought about it too late.

  2. Its good to see you got the registration number, hopefully the police do something about this depraved individual strikes again.

Just finished up my jog around Nai Hairn Lagoon, daytime, jogged on past a very nice looking brunette, young lady, noticed the complete Thai creep slowly going by checking her out.........Too many people around at 5:00pm for the creepster to do anything I think.

  3. The river trip to the caves and khao kanab nahm is worth a look, good fun, and they usually take you to a fish farm on Koh Klang as well. The nightlife in town is also fun, not as salubrious as other places but that is often a good thing.

There is live music on a lot of the time, you just need to be in the right place at the right time, in the past few months I have seen live music at:

Bolero's restaurant (Uttarakit road / Khong kha road)

The Roof top bar (top of Chao fa road)

Blue Juice (close to the pier night market)

Jam House (off maharat road, near crazy pub)

Kwan Fang (end of Maharat near krabi municipality building)

The Thai's rock out at Crazy pub or Room 69 both of which have bands playing most nights. You may be the only farang in these discos but they are both friendly places.

    Enjoy!

    CHFarang and kontai,

thank you very much. The one question I had after reading CH's post was the friendliness if in fact I was the only farang, and kontai seemed to answer that.

I'm looking forward to my next mission, the nighttime walk about - Krabi town.

    Cheers !

  4. I was walking around Krabi town last week during the day, and although really hot quite enjoyed it.

Inexpensive hotel rooms available, I had an excellent lunch for 100thb, the river looks very interesting I was quoted a cave tour for two at 500thb, overall very nice experience.

So next time I'm thinking of staying there instead of Ao Nang.

Question to any of you out there, is there nightlife in Krabi Town? Live music or discos?

  5. Hat Napparat which is on the other side from Ao Nang is pretty quiet.

Also continue on down the road to the national park which has a few really quiet beaches.

You can hire a longtail boat out of Ao Nang to drop you off at secluded beaches and pick you up later on some immediate outer islands.

Car accessible Islands? Koh Lanta I suppose, you take a couple of car ferries, there is a thread going about that.

  6. I was at Kata yesterday and there were some waves that I would think came from the quake. Surf in February is pretty rare.

    Are you seriously?

Ghengis did report some strange waves action at NaiHarn beach today:http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Drowning-Nai-Hairn-t339201.html

    you mean seri-ish?

  7. Brit I don't think it does but I have heard many complaints from guys who spend all evening buying a nice friendly attractive girl some drinks and eventually get asked "how much will you pay me?". I think this annoys some people as the outward appearance of both places is not similar to a massage, brothel, or more obvious freelance pickup joint like thermae etc.

Easy way around that Will - just pre-qualify them before you buy them a drink.

"Hi there, my name is Will, do you come here every night?"

Gal "Yes, I wear black and I am here most nights" (clue number one)

Will, "I see, you work for the bar or somewhere else?" (sneaky but affective)

Gal, "I work for you" (clue number two)

Will, "What do you mean you work for me?"

Gal, "I am your waitress, would you like a drink?'

lol.. the problem with places like this is that the girls will check the guys 'credentials' also, if the guy is a well dressed, long term expat then theres little chance they will reveal if they are a whore by asking for cash, and will look to bagging the guy long term rather than for the night.. The true colours will always come out eventually, but it's a bit of a mine field to say the least..

Yeah, its a grey area but some other posters don't seem to understand that.

What a complete load of B.S. I mean from the get go the OP is just spouting nonsense.

Look, OP, nothing grey about anything, no matter where you are you will end up paying somehow for sex. In the western world how much money is spent on dates, dinners, concerts, before you get to bed down? So you don't give them the money directly, but the cash is still out there. You feel better about that because you don't hand money over directly, but as happened to someone I know, don't get yourself in trouble in BKK by not paying and end up out the window of a 20 floor hotel (Cops claimed he "jumped") because you think you are a 25 year old stud and shouldn't have to pay.

    You always pay.....

  8. To everyone talking about parents watching their children...you do realize what country we are talking about here right? I'm sure they are about to tackle that issue right after they get everyone to stop serial littering and driving insanely. To a predeterminist culture such as this one, these tragedies are unavoidable. Our fate has already been determined. That's why their are not lifeguards, and when there are, they aren't trained. You drown, it's just "bad luck." Personal responsibility? Forget it.

Can't just lay it at the feet of the locals, I watched last August, two Scandanavian kids at Kata get carried out to sea on their boogie boards, I waved a couple surfers over to get them in, at the same time, Mom with cocktail still in hand comes running towards the water screaming like a hen.

Boy and a girl 8-10 years old, both crying because they were so scared, once in and in the arms of Mom, the lifeguards showed up to make sure all was o.k................

  9. I guess my son and I are in the minority here.

We think it's a great festival.

I estimated between 50,000 and 80,000 people the first night.

I used to sell at a festival in the states that boasted 100,000 people a day.

Let me tell you, the traffic was much much worse at the one in Pennsylania (eastern sportsmans show)

I think they do an exellent job of getting that many people in and out to enjoy the food, rides, shopping, Thai cultural shows (amazing dancers to the left of the entrance about 100 meters in)

What makes it so much easier here is that most people arrive by motorbike which is easier to park and their traffic keeps moving.

Americans tend to come one or two people to a huge pickup truck and then need 2 spots to park it. (and of course they complain about walking)

Where would I rather go to a festival? I think it's obvious.

plus it's for a good cause, and it's only a week.

Those that are bothered by it, just go out of town for the week. That's what I do during Songkran, after a few years of it, am over it.......

  10. Agree with mark. We have a tendency in modern society to blame others, especially governments, for everything. Taking own responsibility is getting less popular by the day.

We also can not accept mishaps as part of life anymore, and want to avoid them at all cost.

Mark and Steven you are both absolutely correct, and the same sentiment was voiced by my Thai beach guy.

  11. So sad.

At times I don't even want to go to the beaches here because it seems everytime I do their is another drowning. I think I have been present at 4 or 5 over the years, and as a dive/CPR/1st aid/BLS instructor with EMT training I always get involved. I just can't handle the stress of these events anymore, especially when children are involved.

Related: Drowning #1 killer of Asian children. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Drowning-Big...hi-t337883.html

I have to believe that motorbike and car accidents would be #1 for Thai children tho.

A thread running which makes reference to this:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Life-Worth-T...nd-t339041.html

  12. Yesterday on what was a beautiful Sunday at the beach at Nai Hairn, we had another tragedy, a Thai child drowned at the lagoon end. I don't know for sure that she passed, but she was under 6-7 minutes which means serious oxygen deprivation to the brain if she survives.

As I write this I am sick to my stomach as that is the third I have seen this high season, when the water is "safe" so no guards are necessary.

The beach guy that I have known for twenty years down there, when I talked to him about it later, was fighting back tears.

I get really angry, because at the other end of the beach where the Yacht Club is they have buoys and a rope, I'll bet if you were check statistics on where the drownings occur at Nai Hairn, 99% would be at the lagoon end.

I want to propose a buoy at the lagoon end, anchored to the bottom with a rope with buoys that go all the way into the beach. On this rope a moveable flag, that can be moved to show where the water becomes chest deep. A sign in the sand in Thai needs to say, if you cannot swim, do not go past the flag on the rope. If people do get in trouble they'll be able to hold the rope.

    Senseless drownings, pitiful.

  13. Always makes me laugh when I see these posts from guys stating they are worried that people will think their "real Thai women" are bargirl types.

Why do you care what strangers think? Who cares? o.k. your family and close friends, understood, but strangers at The Bed? So what? Actually, they don't give a sh*t about you so just go dance and have some fun.

Yes, there are working girls there, please don't be surprised about that in BKK.

  14. Check with Ayara Hilltop Villas Surin Beach, Surin Beach is nice with a lot of good restaurants.

For complete isolation Andaman White Beach Resort has some pool villas.

Andara Resort Kamala has just opened.

Hmmmmm.....that's all I can think of now, second cup of coffee has yet to set in.

  15. For sure 15 years is a long time, so if you feel it's time to go, it is.

I have only lived here for 5 years, but had been travelling here for 20. Lived in my home country 40 years and was quite happy to come here as I love the food, and the government of my home country was a mess (GW Bush).

You talk about racism, but that is everywhere, I don't think you can single out Thailand there.

I wonder if you'll spend a year in your new location, then decide, maybe Thailand wasn't so bad after all.

    Good luck to you.

  16. "The Burmese would be fined up to 20,000 baht each and repatriated, Lt Col Supaperk said."

Let the negotiations begin as surely the Burmese would not have that much money. The exploitation of the Burmese is quite tragic & it almost seems like they are viewed as sub human.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that 9 of them were murdered in an execution on the border when they could not pay 1,000 Baht each to the hold-up gang.

Didn't see that, do you have a link to back that up?

  17. OOPS, Sorry to all, i guess the written nword didn't really convey what i meant. Wooo scary place as far as you expat experts go ,,what a great response thoug..thanks.

Yes very sorry im only young and dont know a thing.. but if its as bad as you say..dont talk..just move away..

I think you are missing the point.

As mentioned by F1fanatic, yes, those of us who live here discuss on this forum the problems here in Phuket that most of the visitors do not really see or care about as they are only here for a week or two. Like you, no?

As everyday people here, we see the bad side of the Tuk-Tuk drivers, a tourist might take a ride and think they are wonderful as they are much cheaper than a cab ride back home. But, as ScubaBuddha has experienced, sharing the roads with these people everyday can lead to much different experiences.

Yes, on this Forum we are concerned about senseless killings in our neighborhoods, rapists, burglaries, just as anyone who calls a place "home", would.

The topic of this thread is "Phuket is a Great Holiday Destination" and I think most of us who live here would say, "yes it is", but as residents we see things in a different light.

  18. The saying that he was not a big fish just because he had chopped off his fingers is just silly. If he was the lowest thug he would had been taken out if he did any major error, not just asked to sacrifice a finger. Only a higher soldier or officer in the groups are asked to perform this act of submission when they have been unable to fulfill their leaders request. And chances are he did not start out at the top but worked his way there - so having some fingers missing could be an indication of his years of service and true dedication to their cause as he rose up to a inner circle position.

TAWP thanks for the clarification on what was a pretty funny thread.
