There is a Lanta Sports Bar with a massive banner out advertising World Cup 2010, in fact it might even be called Lanta Sports Bar.
Upon exiting the Ferry road, make a left going away from Saladan Town, it will be on your left about 1.5kms down, it'll be hard to miss the banner.

hi
previously been to krabi (stayed in aunang sunset hotel) with my x colleague and now planning to go again as for relaxation.
the tour guy promised me a stay in Krabi La Playa in which he just called me stating it is fully booked.
as a replacement, they offer me these hotels :
Ao Nang Princeville & Spa Resort
Buri Tara Resort
from google, i am seeing princeville seems nice and it is near to the "market / town near the beach" so that we can easily enjoy our night sight nearby. However what i found is, why the value is pretty low compared to buri tara resort (further inside) at value around $67-$100 ? (from www.travelpost.com)
as for my expectation of relaxation, which resorts you guys would suggest ?
will that be near where we can have a view of sunset ?
thanks
firezz when are you going (?), sort of important for us to figure out the info for you.
Krabi La Playa is only full December and January, if outside those dates go direct with the resort as someone is trying to pull one over on you.
Phra Nang Inn is right on the beach and right at the corner of all the action, for what Ao Nang has for action anyway.......

Kata book store at the back of the Club Med resort has a decent selection. If you return the book you get 50% of the purchase price back.
sometimes kata bookstore is more convenient to me, but they are more expensive and have a smaller selection.
They have moved btw and are now on katekwan road.
Where is katekwan rd? Is the new location of the Kata Bookstore near any resorts or landmarks?

Well, it all washed ashore.Loaded with garbage plastic bags and assorted waste products almost as if a garbage scow threw a load of trash over board and it all washed ashore ...How about this?
Dog owner walking the dog on the beach, picks up one of the plastic bags washed ashore, and uses it to pick up dog poo and discard both in proper bin when leaving the beach.
Proverbial "two birds with one stone".

All the rain today will help fill up the reservoir & wells ....
Sorry but this statement is nonsensical
All the rain?? wheewweee Afew mmls is all that has fallen so far today if we had had torential downpour for nonstop 24 hr we coulkd agree with your statement
A mere sprinkle like this would have very little effect on increasing storage levels, afew mmls like this falling directly into dams etc is the proverbial Drop on the ocean and as for the rest it is simply soaked up by the parched earth initially but later like after many many mms of rain and the ground is basically waterlogged and the ground water levels rise sure then the storage dams and wells will start filling again
I for one really really are looking ford to raincomming as i have been buying water since last year as the powers to be have nowater pressure to my apartment not far from and above opposite simon cabaret
This weather is at least coming from the south and west so cood be the start of real but very late monsoon system at last and then you can start saying as you have alredy said but with some matter of fact another fact of course is that the world weather patterns are all over the places andits a good possibilty that we will not get the needed rainfall
Wow, that's spouting some negativity there KB, along with complete pessimism. Also, you can use the word "nonsense" no need to go nonsensical.
We had an inch and a half yesterday, I'd say 2-3 inches last night, I think your prediction of not a lot of rain due to "world weather patterns" is premature. I remember two years ago I was at a restaurant and the owner was saying "El Nino is here, we are going to have a huge drought". He split for Chiang Rai and it rained for a week straight.
KB I'd be more worried about the hill your living on giving way.
Another option might be talking to the owners about a pipeline from the Nanai flood plain.

Not sure if you guys are full time residents or vacationers, but this is typical for this time of year when the winds change directions.
Now that it is blowing on shore, all the garbage that is out there blows in.
As far as dog feces, I'll agree with you, people here tend not to pick up after their animals.

"grumpy old man mode" hey, I resemble that remark !
You are absolutely right Simon, I think the only reason those five stars are building out there is the land must've been the cheapest on the island? The area is not nice and far from anything.
The Sheraton is going up on that Ao Makham with beautiful views of the LPG tankers and ocean water that is not nice, can't understand who advised them to build there or why they decided to go up there............

Couple of pictures from Kata beach last year http://oilinki.com/gallery/phuket-kata-beach-summer-season
Surfs might not be high enough for the professionals, but other surfers seemed to have fun.
For sure a good place to learn

8>< SNIP: NESTED QUOTES DELETED ><8
How tedious for you so sorry! Well in my case the only thing I've been projecting is vomit.
No I posted because I wanted advice about giving up drink, stated as much, and hey what do know
...this is the I drink too much forum.
Rest that leg up now, we wouldn't want any further slight occasional twinges would we
Anyway, drifting off topic, I'd recommend sticking to the sarcasm and avoiding actual abuse when posting. Also, in my opinion obscenity comes out poorly on this forum, because of the 'spell-checker' censor, but there's no excuse for obscenity anyway (in my opinion) - even mild obscenities;
SC, you are way too nice to mommysgirl who 1. doesn't understand your leg analogy and 2.if can't stomach drink needs to come on a forum to ask about giving up drinking (lunatic maybe? Troll for sure).
mommysgirl the attention you seek is out there, just buy a lady drink, but stick to OJ there to keep from vomiting (yes, I too remember my first drink....).

By the way, careful when you cross the road you may get run over by a bus....or struck by lightning.
True, but in those situations I don't have a bunch of money hanging out there to be cheated out of...................
-
Still crap that they may not stick to their original contract...but hey TIT!!!
If it was Spain, they would cost 500% more and probably be bulldozed in a year......there's some food for thought ...
and if it was in Southern Sudan it would have cost 500% less. Please don't use the "if this was in..." argument. I wont let any of my sales staff use it as it is sooooo "naff" and I am a Property Developer involved in the same industry...lol. Something is worth what the market will pay for it in the location in which it is based. Anyone who sells ( or buys) something based on " imagine what this would be worth if it was in.." basis deserves to be taken to the cleaners. ( and they inevitably are)
et caveat emptor
spot on bra !

No surf here, you should go to Bali.
Thanks for the constructive response GRUMPYOLDMAN. Are surfers not welcome in Phuket??
Just getting blown out of proportion considering the type of surf.
When I see 60 surfers in the water at Kata, I have to laugh, 10 years ago there might have been two. Until it gets +6 feet, it's fluff.
In 1994 I would surf my local beach (name unsaid) alone, last weekend I counted sixteen guys on the one peak.
No thanks to one knucklehead (said in a friendly manner as I do like the guy) who wrote in Lonely Planet that Phuket had "world class waves".
Anyway, there's my rant, all I'm saying is if you truly are looking for world class surf, go to Bali, but if surfing is just an excuse to tell the wife or GF at home the reason you are going to Phuket (while most of the time white water rafting at Christins), then I feel better about you.

Must be a lot of "insane" millionaires in Phuket then.
If you do things the proper way there's nothing to worry about.
You can own your condo outright, plus you will get a chanote paper with your name on it.......
"Must be a lot of "insane" millionaires in Phuket then."
No, just people with money that can burn
"If you do things the proper way there's nothing to worry about."
Define "proper" when a new government comes in and changes the ownership laws?
"You can own your condo outright, plus you will get a chanote paper with your name on it......."
Not 100%, condo association typically has the 51%, owner decides to bulldoze building, pays the 51% holders, and you're left with your nice piece of paper and a bundle of lawyers fees trying to recoup your investment. No thanks.

Lets hope the Germans play a fairer game than the Italians did in the semi final in the last world cup. We was robbed mate.
That was round of 16, not semis. Australia never went that far in World Cup.....
Anyway, remember that game clearly, Aussies were threated harsh by ref, Italians used all dirty tricks to win by narrowest of margins - from penalty spot kick that never existed at first place.
Not to knock any Italians on the board here, but your footy team is loaded with floppers and flappers.
Wasn't it that team that Zindane did his "headbutt heard around the world"?

Three beers and you're vomiting?
Mate, when was the last time you had a physical including a readout on your liver function?
In Phuket we play two man beach volleyball, granted later in the day when its not as hot, but we'll get in five games, definitely strenuous. After we'll throw back 3-5 big beers.
Typically some cramping but otherwise that's about it. I think if you're healthy, you should be able to have a few beers after a workout.
Are you for real?
I want to punch your face in!
If I do have a liver complaint it would hardly be a pull your socks up thing would it?
Get back to the muppets you twXt.
Just now saw this response to my post.
Also just noticed the handle, that might explain it.

I ate at Terrace 90 last night, thought it was excellent food, we (my girlfriend and I) both had Mexican dishes. I have never been further north than Argentina in the American continents so I cannot comment on whether it was "authentic" Mexican or not, but I thought it tasted excellent. My girlfriend has lived 4 years in Arizona so she had Mexican a million times and she gave it thumbs up as well. Only thing is the price, which by my standards was a bit steep, but for most older people with more money than me I don't see this as any problem at all, I just can't afford to go there to often.
I think the price issue is "par for the course" for Mexican food in Thailand.
Los Cabos in Bangkok, which in my opinion and after having eaten at many, many Mexican food places in Thailand is the best Mexican I've had here, is definitely expensive.
An appetizer, a couple Patron Silvers, a couple margaritas, a combo plate and I think I went through 1300thb............

Was in Ao Nang earlier this week for a few days, haven't been there for about a year and was surprised how quiet the place was - strongly suspect that the previous post hits the nail on the head, no tourists so people are getting desparate. On that note, stopped by to see a long term friend who ceased work for Boots in Phuket to open her own pharamcy in Ao Nang and she confirms business is pretty bad, barley making the rent payments, everyone in the same boat. Went to buy Nicorette at another pharmacy and found the price to be double that of Phuket (290 baht per sheet), my friend tells me it's the same every where in the town, products potentially in demand by Eurpoeans get hiked in price until they are totally unrealistic, still they sell.
I'm with you on Ao Nang being expensive. Cut myself over in Railay on some sharp coral, stepped into one of the pharmacies to get my typical antibiotic ointment that I pay about 100thb for in Phuket. 220! I laughed, passed on it, used a lot of soap instead.
Restaurants too, way overpriced except for the geow teow guy in front of the Quikkie Mart.

So why come up with this post?
Why bash a member? Coming from a mod especially, you're able to get away with it because you throw in a couple gay little emoticons?

The only way your going to watch it in Thailand with English broadcast is to find a bar that has UBC with HD. Other than that it will be in Thai only.
sorry to pee on your bonfire but there is no,absolutely no english commentary on u b c,sure.
Huh? You don't think Astrosport and/or Supersport won't have English commentary?
Instead of pee I think you've been stoking the fire with the wacky tobaccy.

RIP and condolences to the family, truly a tragic accident.
Karon Guest Friendly Hotel Needed
in Phuket
Posted
Sky Hotel in Karon is inexpensive, they have wifi and are just a couple doors up from a few of the local bars, if you get my drift.
Patong is a dump.
