  1. almost reads as if there was no maintenance contract for the line...
  2. compare with other similar incidents in Thailand and how many people usually talk about the events.
  3. We simply know too little to make a judgement about what happened. The video does not support the assault story, especially considering the photos taken just after a couple of backup cops arrived, the guys just stand around the motorcyles, the police too. if the guys were dangerous, they would have their face in the dirt, a cop's knee in the ribs and bracelets. Instead it looks like they stand around the bikes and are talking. an assault would not result in that photograph. There's certainly more to this story than meets the eye at this point. What would you think if the cop fired in the air first, and then put the gun to one of the guys' head while shouting "I kill you" "I kill you" and making crazy Al-Kaida eyes? Would we have a case of self-defense then ? Another hint that there is more to the story is how slowly this case moves forward.
  4. how much do you know about Russia and Ukraine? have you been to Russia ? (I have) have you been to Ukraine ? (I have) do you have Russian friends living in Russia ? (I have) do you have friends and family living in Ukraine ? (I have)
  5. do the research yourself. Trump has implied as much on several occasions, a recent one being where he said he would stop all aid to Ukraine and the war would then stop.
  6. where are you getting 32.200 from? the figure seems ridiculously low. EDIT Ah, that's the number of residents. So you are comparing the number of offences committed by foreigners overall, including tourists and illegal entries, with the number of residents - and that's incorrect.
  7. so, he gave Starlink to Ukraine and then a little later, started interfering and becoming more pro-Russian and pro-Trump. I wonder what kompromat Putin's got on Musk, but I'm also pretty sure Musk was already a prick before. His move to buy Twitter is also highly suspect in this light.
  8. It's so sad. How can those vile MAGA Reps look at themselves in the mirror?
  9. I completely agree with the Russians - and they already have the perfect buffer zones: Kursk Oblast, Bryansk Oblast, Belgorod Oblast, Rostov Oblast and Voronezh Oblast.
  10. Yes, you are right on that count - I misread "replied" for "reported". Apologies to you for that.
  11. ah, we now get into the realm of the "unwritten rules". rules #28 does not mention post length, it says that shortening a post is permitted. the rest of your post didn't add any context to the section I was responding to. my goal was to respond exactly to your reference to the "rogue cop defense", as suggested by rule #7 of the Code of Conduct. there is your good reason. my apologies to the rest of the readers for getting sucked into a "I'll report you because you broke the rules" discussion.
  12. Wow, you needed some time to come up with that. I'll leave it to others who also understand the meaning of "context" to judge. I don't mean to infer that you don't understand the meaning of "context", even if your post would suggest otherwise. Maybe reporting my post as you suggested would provide clarity in the matter.
  13. unless it's a proven dangerous criminal fleeing, there is absolutely no reason ever to shoot someone's tires, it even should be a very serious breach of the code of conduct, cops doing that should land a desk job, and that's if nobody was injured.
  14. Absolutely. To save you the time, check rule #28. Also check out the Code of Conduct rule #7 which you wanted me to break. Wouldn't that make 2 apologies from you ? https://aseannow.com/forum_rules/
  15. Please go ahead and ridicule yourself completely by quoting the rule you allege I have broken.
  16. You seem to be confused. This forum isn't a court, so there is no "defense". In any case, we would still be in the discovery phase. I just reserve my judgement until in possession of all facts, in particular the statement of the brothers, more potential witness videos and the police videos.
  17. Details and circumstances are very important in such matters. Gun drawn after a hot pursuit ? In general yes, gun pointed towards the ground or towards the sky. after a hot pursuit of two t-shirt and shorts wearing tourists on scooters with little room to conceal weapons and ample police support around ? less so. and even less reason to point a gun at them. shooting the tires as suggested by another poster would be totally inappropriate, as two guys fleeing on scooters pose no threat, but attempting to shoot their tires would put other people at risk. but ... if I was driving a scooter and a cop pulled up beside me and shot in the air and then pointed his gun on me, I'd stop. but that apparently wasn't what happened. the story says the cop pursued and stopped them, then started filming them, and then somehow the situation escalated into disarming the cop. how ? that is the question on whihb the case hinges.
  18. Par for the course in Thailand. Same in the case of the Swiss scumbag who allegedly kicked a doctor, officials were bending backwards to interfere in the judicial process and peddle influence.
  19. The short video shows two men restraining a cop and wringing his weapon from him without hitting him. To me it looks like they wanted the weapon to be out of the cop's reach until his colleagues arrived. But it's a short video and I might be wrong. But so far we only heard the cop's version of events. And yes, there is no assault in a self-defense situation.
  20. My opinion is that the public has the right to disarm a police officer if the unwarranted behaviour of the cop causes a self-defense situation, for example by drawing a weapon and pointing it on someone during a verbal altercation.
  21. Everyone should watch the video before commenting: The video looks like the two disarmed the cop and waited for the police to arrive, they absolutely don't look like they were assaulting the cop. I think it's fair to listen to their side of the story. Cops or soldiers pulling out guns, even shooting in the air and behaving erratically is common in Thailand. Also, I wonder how the car chase looked and what happened then, knowing what actions are usually taken by cops here, the car chase may well be characterized as attempted murder if the cop tried to ram their scooter. Speculations, let's wait to hear their side of the story.
  22. erm. Literature is different from fluency. Literature is about studying Thai writers and their works.
