builders tend to keep on building without analysing the demand in the equation. it should be alright as long the bank loans are repaid. the music will stop when the buyers are not able to service the loans.

too early to confirm. depends on the mortgage leverage for bubble to be burst.

Bangkok is not going to be alone. There is a glut of empty property in Pattaya and they are still building more. I wouldn't be buying right now, as it seems prices are highly likely to fall given the surplus.
very prudent approach.

I'm surprised they had the courage to put China on the list.
was there a choice. the situation is glaring in everybody's face. there is no controversy that visitors from china are most likely to infect others, thank tourists from other destinations, although japan and south korea are also of concern now.

Then why not put every single person traveling from these countries under the same conditions of entry? Why pick on these people?
sound point.

it would be more prudent to be transparent upfront because the disease will become uncontrollable if unchecked in time.

good anticipatory precaution although it does not guarantee 100% safety due to the yet undetermined incubation period of the corona virus COVID-19. better to start somewhere.

This article is hardly representative of the situation though, is it? How many vendors did they speak to - three? Not exactly a representative sample of what's going on.
Jomtien beach has always been more popular that Pattaya beach, especially with the Scandis and Slavs, so nothing new there.
Let's see a proper survey done all the way from North Pattaya all the way down past Jomtien and see what comes out of that.
As I said upthread, this rubbish article is nothing more than a puff-piece to drum up flagging business.
doubt any one is going to spend resources to do surveys at this point time. maybe more prudent that money on assisting the affected operators.

is it a simple case of playing the "victim" card by the tour operators to seek government help?

More likely a mixture of local farang enjoying the beach without all the Chinese everywhere .
whichever way it is as long there are people patronising the facilities, it will keep the tourism machinery running.

I would say, look out for the next years, as long as the Thai Bhat is overrated and inflated...it will make the Corona desert seem like peanuts.
more likely it is the corona situation that is holding people up from travelling.

No worries. Beach sport championships, marching band festivals, mass Indian weddings, hordes of Russian millionaires, Thai families (actually families from around the whole world) are all coming to rescue!
Time to start building more hotels, more condos, more malls - more of everything.
this will have to wait a while until corona issue is more clear.

Good times to come for residents.
not really as many people may not like to leave the comfort of their homes in situation of uncertainties created by the virus.

it is difficult to predict the future of tourism at this critical point in time as no one can for sure, determine how long it is going to take to control the COVID-19.
all travellers are taking the sensible approach to stay in the comfort of their homes rather than expose themselves to uncertainties by travelling.
unfortunately we all have to wait and watch how the virus issues pans out.

I hope the government do nothing to assist them, other than sorting out the immigration hate on farangs, and stop bringing in stupid regulations that penalise guesthouses that cater to farangs.
Agree - Leave them to their own devices, as they did when they were making a killing!!
rabbi there are some times when some form of help is necessary.

Thailand needs to follow suit with many other countries to ban China tourists. Catering to China, is going to turn everyone away. Looks like Thailand is wide open for Chinese still...even discounting visas. Need to walk cautiously to give confidence to other tourist virus safety.
i still feel it is better to diversify rather than become dependent on a particular country. in times of need, tourists will still keep on coming from other sources.

tour operators most certainly need some form of support from the government to tide over this difficult period. yes the impact of COVID-19 is greater and serious as the duration is uncertain ( already pretty long).

It is meaningless. Just plain as that.
some things get obsolete with passage of time. good thing that it was corrected after action by petitioners.
