    In a few months ...

    Or maybe already tomorrow ...

  2. Following the recommendations here I went to the "Bike Shop" today to let my rear wheel being centered in every direction as well as get all spokes equally tightened.
After not one hour the work was done - perfectly!
Even though the shop looks anything but appealing according to western standards it is properly equipped for this kind of work and the owner obviously knows his business.
90 Baht; now recommended from me, too.

  3. Tried it first time, and it worked. But to be honest --- without the help of an experienced friend I wouldn't have found the site where to check the outcome of my application.

The sites of Thai Immigration are made worse than poor ...

At the end of the day: It saved me some hours and gas and nerves to go to the zoo ...

    Thumbs up ...

  4. Rebo was all this damage, as shown in your photos, done by one or more trees? Really hard to tell but looks like it was more than one tree. Hate to see to many of these big trees go down,

I estimate about 10 trees died last night between Saraphi and Nong Hoi.

Most of them broke, and some even were uprooted.

Almost every tree must have lost a couple of branches; in the very early morning (about 0530 a.m.) one could hardly get on by a sedan car; the road was strewn with branches.

  5. About 20 years ago some "influential personalities" wanted to cut down (and fill their pockets by selling them) all those more than 500 big rubber trees along the old Chiang Mai - Lamphun road. In their helpnessless the residents who wanted to keep the trees asked the monks what could be done to avoid the logging. The monks simply declared the trees as monks which thus become unlumberable. Since that time the trees wear their orange robes.
BTW - the "helicopter seeds" of these trees are the symbol of tambon Saraphi.

  6. Where to buy a cheap plastic wheel for our BBQ set?
I already checked all DIY markets to no avail. Some have kind of sophisticated wheels with similar dimensions (Diameter 14.5 cm (5 3/4"), width 32 mm (1 1/4"), axle hole 8 mm)

but the price of almost the entire BBQ set; I'm looking for a wheel not more expensive than 150 THB.
    Thanks in advance

  7. Where to buy such an infrared bulb in CNX? Don't need to be Philips but 150W and same dimensions for special fireproof lamp.
    Pharmachoice no hap.
We use it for our dog's place in winter when temperature falls below 10 centigrees but last January the bulb broke and we need replacement.
    Thanks in advance.

  8. Is "Hua Chai Thow" horseradish or something similar?

Thanks for questioning my statement that politely --- I was wrong:

"Hua Chai Thow" is radish (Raphanus), the asian species is called "daikon" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daikon).

Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana) is not a radish (but both are in the same family Brassicaceae, and have some similar qualities and health benefits).

"Hua Chai Thow" is available at many markets in Chiang Mai.

According to my wife (who knows it from fresh markets in Bavaria) horseradish as a fresh product is unknown in northern Thailand (and so she doesn't know a Thai word for it) but often mixed up by Thais with wasabi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasabi) what is again a different plant but also one of the same family Brassicaceae.

  9. Expect drilling prices about 2 to 4 times higher than normal. Even Thai rice farmers are willing to pay this at the time being; lots of rice which will be ready for harvesting soon will die before without water. Our neighbour paid 20'000 THB for 2 days of drilling two weeks ago but they didn't find a sufficient water vein --- 40 rai of rice dried up. (And our dicktator even mocks these guys: "We told you ...!") Current rice prices went up to 11' - 12'000 THB/ton for the successful ones.

  10. Warorot market is the place for best quality and reasonable prices.
I like most the "cheese" ("Noey khaeng") tasted, followed by the ginger ("Khing") tasted ones. Reading a book or magazines I can eat half a kilo per day easily. 120 THB/kg regular customer price.
    Only salted: 90 THB/kg.

  11. Inside dimensions of our drawers: 40 cm width / 45 cm length.
Chiangmai Plastic doesn't have anything close to that, same is valid for IKEA.

Does anyone have an idea where in Chiang Mai we could have a chance to find one that suits?

    Thanks in advance

  12. Just got my son last week.

This brings this indian quality product to my mind: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=544820458895195&set=a.544719298905311.1073741828.544698088907432&type=1&theater but on your pic I like the position of the rear fender more ...

Especially the fork seems to be something special: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/801787420/alloy_front_fork_ECA_326ST.html
