  1. I really don't get this experimenting with Chinese bikes, if they are super-cheap yes, but at 139k it costs more than the Honda CB300, why would you do that? Even if I was seduced by the styling, which I am not, or the twin cylinder, which I think offers very little, if anything, it's a Chinese bike FCS and "no reported problems", what's that all about? Honda is Honda, Bellini is What??

It seems that by the time these Chinese bikes get close to being as good as proven makes, they get as expensive, so why bother?

Autocar think the Benelli is great:

  2. Is anyone out there on a committee of a Housing estate under Juristic control and can offer some advice based on past experience ??

I bought a house on a Moban a few weeks ago (Thai limited company)....Got talking to a Ferrang neighbour who "owns" his house on a 30 year lease.....

There is an AGM comming up next month and me and my neighbour tried to put our names forward to be elected as directors / committee members.

We were told that only Thais can be Directors - being a shareholder of a company that owns a house or leaseholder doesn't qualify.

any first hand experience in this would be appreciated...

  3. There are 2 CRF 250 models....

The "L" has knobly tyres, taller seat height, harder suspension and bigger wheels

    and

The "M" which has road tyres, lower seat height, softer suspension and smaller "super moto" wheels...

If you are looking at doing most of your riding on the roads and want to carry a passenger - then the "M" model is a wise choice....

And because of it's "dirt bike DNA" its very capable of dealing with the pot hole invested roads and dirt tracks over here, far better than a typical road bike.

One thing you will need to do though is to change / modify the seat - its way too hard and too narrow....

Seat concepts do a really comfy / wider seat, which i have fitter to mine and its a delight:

Althernatively i'm sure a local seat shop could do something along these lines too...

  4. I'd buy the CRF over the 300F (in fact I may just buy a CRF in a few months time), lots more potential for off-road fun and surprisingly good in the city. I find the riding position and balance of the CRF good even in busy Bangkok traffic, and it's fine with a passenger too (although a little uncomfortable for the person on the back, given the thin seat).

I've got one of these fitted to mine (250M) - much wider and 10 X more cumfy than the original seat:

  5. Thanks for the post. I am now poised to purchase either one of these, a CB300 F or a CBR 300. I can't decide which.

Sit on the Crfm, the seat height is 34 inches.

I personally prefer this style rather than a sports bike, for riding position.

But the cb300 is not a sports bike riding position?

More power on the 300 but no off-roading capabilities so it's all up to each riders needs.

They both looks good for sure.

I think the 250M scores over the 300F because of its "dirt bike DNA", allowing it to soak up the pot hole infested side roads round here.

Also a 250M can fly down dirt raods whereas a 300F would struggle.

  6. This isn't the classifieds section.

    Too expensive anyway.

Sorry, can someone move this to the right area please?

the bike is fairly priced - just sold my CB300F, similar age, slightly lower milage - got 110,000b for it......

Agree with the OP's comments - a great bike all round...only sold mine cos i wanted an enduro bike....

    Good luck with the sale...

  9. This is being argued about discussed in another thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/833471-finding-a-local-tax-advisor-for-expats-in-pattaya/ where the evidence to me looks like there is no double taxation treaty on pensions between UK and Thailand unless you have what is termed a “Government pension” – which is not the same as the state pension. However I could be completely wrong……smile.png

I think you should be able to claim the personal allowance of £10,600 for this year against any tax paid.

My advice would be to contact the non resident tax centre and ask them - presuming also that you are officially non resident for tax purposes as far as HMRC are concerned?

its not a "goverment pension" - ie old gage pension - a private pension taken out with a UK insurance company....

I've tried phoning the "help line" - but permantly engaged - hence the post on here....

Anyone else got any ideas ???

If you have savings here (Thailand) and get interest from those savings you may be being taxed. If so you can claim that tax back from the Thai tax man and in the process you would have to get a tax id number. This is covered in a number of posts in the banking forum - just do a search on reclaiming tax on interest or similar.

Are you trying the pensions help line or the non resident tax helpline? The pension one is probably going to be on melt down for a while with all the changes going on.

By the way if your savings are in the UK then presumably generating some interest - if you are paid gross then this would go against you personal allowance and if net than you could claim back against your personal allowance.

Have you also read through this thread as you may find the answer you are looking for in it - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/807027-uk-private-pension-changes-to-pension-laws/

only have a small amount and just left in current account, so no interest earnt - hence no need to contact the Thai tax office.....

yes tried the pensions help line to no avail.....

savings are in Thailand - no money / property in the uk.....

where do i contct them ?? do you have an e mail address ??

not sure what i'm officially classed as - i just left the UK several years ago and said "nowt" - i'm as resident as i can be in Thailand on a retirement visa...

  11. The insurance company deducts tax based on your tax coding number, they cannot decide whether to deduct tax or not. The fact that Aviva sent you a double taxation treaty form was an attempt at them being helpful.

You need to settle the matter with HMRC directly, they are usually very helpful and easy to deal with in these situations.

well they didn't ask me !!

they said they were required to deducd basic income tax after the 25% tax free allowance, which they did and directed me to the double tax form......
