  1. Higher risk, plus on top of that the habit to, on occasion, help out the person without insurance by agreeing to hold the insured person liable.

So I'm carrying all the non-insured, probably unlicenced, in the event of an accident, even if I'm in the right?

30 years in the UK industry....

In a nutshell, the driving is pretty dire and the way the insurers go about rating the policies wouldn't wash it from where i'm from...

A typical UK insurer would factor about 100 things into rating a motor insurance policy...

here you could count them on one hand....

The level of cover provided too is an n'th of what you'd get in the UK...

You need to check very carefully what the policy actually covers - especially the limits in respect of third party injury and property damage....

  2. yes you can....

The "gov't insurance" is pretty basic and doesn't offer much cover for third paryt injury or property damage....

You can take out "third class cover" - which is called "third party only cover" where i'm from - this cover increases the level of third party injury and property damage cover, over and above the Government policy...

You'll need to check the limits though, as different insurers offer different limits....

quite often the insurance sellers at the goverment transport / licence centre can sell you this cover in addition to the government insurance they sell and hand you over the policies there and then....

  3. I don't understand anybody would want a tall windscreen on a slow scooter?

Yes when going over 120-130 km/h the wind factor can really be felt but below that I prefer the wind in my face.

I am looking forward to see the Yamaha in the flesh soon when finshed working overseas next friday.

The wind will still be in your face as the screen is not higher than your head( don't think it's higher than your head) it just makes the wind less of a discomfort over a long distance especially when you are doing 700kms in a day!

If you are a lady, and it is raining, and this is your regular transportation the windscreen is most desirable, no need to change clothes or redo wind and rain marred make up.

I like wind in the face, but have a memphis shades removable cowling to make it a bit less on long faster drives. But generally never take it off for around town. But for the wife, the taller windscreen will please her a lot.

I saw the PCK150 was sold out, but one coming and but no test drives were offered. I did talk to an owner of 2 years of a PCX150 and his wife and both were very happy. W e test drive the NMax tomorrow.

My mrs. has had a Yamaha Spark135 for 10 years, It has been beaten mercilessly for a decade and still goes fine.

But a recent fall from being cut off by an idiot on a wet road, grabbing the front brake too hard, and then having another idiot hit her bike while it was down, trashing his front wheel badly, along with his knees, made me decide to get her an ABS bike.

It is down to the PCX150 and the Nmax155.

Yamaha is significantly close to our place than Honda, and we know them. 2km vs 15 km

NMax requires learning to use left hand rear brake, but it's full ABS disk. In an emergency stop, 10 years of habit would be pull the front lever and then go for there at pedal on right, which won't be there.... habit to break and relearn.

PCX has same basic lever for brakes, right hand, but is combi- ABS 70% rear, 30% front. No relearning and she is less likely to be thinking use the rear first on wet anyway (as much as I have said to).

PCX has slightly more carry room inside. But not a deal breaker. and dashboard charger plug and phone drawer.

NMAX has optional under seat charger plug

Nmax has nice optional tall windscreen

    PCX not sure.

Both can have Givi type boxes added.

I like the fatter tires on the Nmax, even if the wheels are smaller. More rubber on the road and I don't really care how many turns is needed to go the same distance. Maybe a slight loss in tire wear, but more rubber on the road is a plus especially with great brakes.

So could be a toss up broken by her preference. I had a Honda here for 8 years, 4 different ones over 50 years, and also a Yamaha or two, Norton, Harley et al.

She's had on Yamaha for a decade and likes it, but time for more modern.

Forza is just too big, Suzuki Burgman also and not here. So PCX150 vs Nmax155. Which will she like?

In the real world there's <deleted> all in it - both bikes are good and whichevery one you buy, you'll be pleased with it....

If the Yamaha dealer is nearer to you, and you know tham anre happy with their service, that may well tip you over into the Yamaha camp...

I had one of the first PCX's when they were first released.....on my 4th now, never had a problem, will prob keep with PCX's as i'm comfortable with them....

  4. Has the OP considered not wearing a gold chain, and not taking his phone and wallet with him?

I walk along Jomtien beach road every evening and no one ever hassles me, but I only have a couple of hundred Baht in my pocket. Everything else of value I leave back in my condo.

I also wonder did he report the incident? I'm not suggesting that the police would actually catch the miscreants but a report would at least indicate that there is a problem. No report means the problem does not exist.

Or just staying well away from the place ??

  5. In CM they drive up in a pickup, lift your m/c on the back then drive off.

None of your ideas will stop that.

Can you please post a link to any positive comment you have ever made on this forum ?

If people want to steal a bike, there isn't much you can do that will stop them... Preventive measures will deter most amateurs though and 1st class insurance will cover the rest..

    Happy New Year smile.png

    sadly not Cornish...

Typical policy covers only 75% of the value....

And there is plenty you can do....

    Complacency is the bigest problem....

But a 2nd hand CB500F, for example, costs 75% of new price... Mine covered enough for me smile.png

Disc lock, grip lock and hope for the best... It's just a toy after all....

    1) you haven't got a second hand 500F - you sold it - remember ??

    2) policies here cover 75% of the bikes value when new, after 1 year the percentage is reduced each and every year, so you never get the true value of the bike if it is stolen or written off....

I did sell mine, that's why I said my insurance "covered" past tense smile.png

But you're right, it doesn't cover the full amount...

I'll get another bike this year some time.. Could be a PCX or could be an MT-07 ? Or might not get another one at all !!

Well thanks for keeping us informed....

  7. I prefer the ones that just get you there and straight back, which costs me 2200 baht.

So you are paying 600 baht for food ?

Considering the price of a visa now to enter Cambodia, E-visa price according to the official cambodian website .....

Entry Type Single entry only Fees

    USD30 + USD7 (processing charge)

    That is over 1300 Baht.

It makes the cost of the trip including food 1500 Baht.

At the old price of an E-visa, I would have thought twice about paying 2800 Baht for the trip.

With no paperwork, a hassle free trip and a good driver in a spacious 6 seater mini bus, I would use them again.

If I had a car these days, that would be different, but I do not.

I am happy with the service I got.

I used to manage a large pub / restaurant just off beach road...

1st Class Visa runs always got a big thumbs up from the customers - i've reccommended them numerous times (and they are based in a rival pub !) and never heard a bad word said about them ...

  9. Basically the same weight as the 650f which in turn has the inline 4 engine.

That alone is reason not to buy the 500.

Why anyone would buy the 500 over the 650 is beyond me.

what about if you want an adventure bike ? - no 650X

What about f you can afford the 500F but the 650F is beyond reach ?

Using your philosiphy - we'd all be riding BMW's...

219k for the 500 brand new v's 285k for the 650 series. Not much difference for what you get but yes its more money.

Used 650's with 3000ks are going for 220k, even less. A much better propostion and a bike light years ahead of the 500.

I dont undertstand the love for a heavy single thats basically older in design than i at 28 years of age.

    CB500F is 210,000b and the CB650F is 285,000b ...

if you can only afford the former, you can't have the latter....

The 500 range are twin's not singles....

    is the 650F better than the 500F ? - i should co-co - but then thats life....

but if you are going to argue - then argue like for like...

A Ducati Scrambler is better than a CB650F - but then it should be, cos it costs more....

A triumph XCX is better than a Ducati Scrambler - but then it should be, cos it costs more.....

At the tender age of 55, with well over 50 bikes under my belt (from little 'uns to big 'uns and plenty in between), my personal opinion is that the roads here are bleedin awful so when i chose my bike i went for an "adventure" style bike that could handle the pot holes and cracks better than a sports bike.......then it was down to budget.....

the Honda CB500X ticked all the right boxes and came in at just what i was comfirtable at - so i went for one...

just under 40 years of riding pretty much every style and size of bike, tells me that i made the right choice....

  11. You will need to check the actual policy you have, but typically a 1st class policy covers damage to the bike....

There is likely to be an excess (or deductable as some call it) of 10-15,000 b dependant on engine size / value...

And there is typically a no claims bonus, which if you claim, sees the premium go down each year, until the maximun of 5 years is reached....

If you are looking at 15,000b and little chance of making a recovery from the culprit, i doubt claiming your own policy would be worth it in the long run...

    hope this helps...

  12. I have one of those bikes and only kept in a few days( the MSX), the shocks were fine it was good for going over the rough roads. One of the main problems is the gas tank area has no place to clip on a bag so you were forced to wear a backpack to carry anything on the bike. There's a lot of plastic and no anchor points even for a bungee cord. I agree, the CBR 150 would be a lot more fun. Good luck and Merry Christmas

    I second that.

My GF got a MSX recently and she can't carry anything with her on the bike, plus she's got to wear throusers - it's very impractical.

This bike gets lots of sales just because it looks cool.

My favorite scooter type bike is still the Yamaha Nouvo Elegance 135.

    PCX....

  13. Benelli has really got the market weighed up , offer exciting , well built bikes with good components and superb value. People will buy. And they are. Honda has lagged behind for many years now , and its market position has long slipped. You cant keep offering poor quality and value , and expect to get away with it for too long. Those Stallions are great , but a different target market , with its air cooled / carb engine. Benelli only had competition from the Kawasaki SL , but now KTM has a new importer , and lower prices , possibly due too lower import taxes , theres even more quality choice. clap2.gif

I gotta say that the Benelli's that I've seen in the last few weeks have looked just as good as the Honda 250/300/500 quality wise. I owned a 2011 Cbr250.

looks good from where i'm sitting:

  14. im not denying the bikes styling looks pretty good papa, but there is no way i could give anymore impressions than that until the bike has been tried and tested and that doesn't mean just sitting on it ,i would be a fool and an idiot to make assumption and comparisons with other bikes just by looks alone, also very naive.

Autocar have riden it and they are raving about it:
