Jim, are you saying that even if I do not bring any cash into the country in 2024 I will have to pay tax on the money I have here? I can also prove that I have funds at home that my bank statements confirm was in my bank prior to Jan 1st 2024. I wanted to remit these at the start of 2025 so I will not be liable for tax on this income as I have proof of it's seasoning and therefore do not have to file a tax return I was under the impression that you only have to pay tax on funds that are remitted to Thailand that were transferred after 1/1/24 Are all these funds now vulnerable to taxation? Many thanks

It wasn't like it 20 years ago either. It really started to deteriorate from about 2010, before then residents did not give it much thought. It's so bad bow , I left the home that I had intended to stay in forever to move south, and judging by what my friends say about this year's weather in CM I am very glad I did. But I was really driven out by the burning and how it affected my chest

Hi Mike Personally I think u are doing a fantastic job ....but some (like me) find it difficult to understand and it wouldn't matter who was in your place, it's still a lot of hard work for you. Can you just clarify 2 things for me please? If I don't bring any capital into LOS in 2024 I will have no need to file? Secondly ,does this still apply to rental income? My rental income is approx the same as my pension income and one of the tax companies said that I would be liable for around 100,000 baht a year in tax. How do I separate this out as it appears that I would have to file a report every 6 months for that money and annually for the remainder.? It's all very confusing for most of us, but I will use my savings I was saving for medical care to last a year and purchase Thai Insurance to cover it, and of course receive an allowance for this when I do file. Thanks for doing a splendid job Mike and I apologize if any of these questions were previously asked

Thailand’s revenue department ups tax amid economic slowdown
ThaiPauly replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Only 2% of Thais pay tax......there must be many that owe it but just don't pay it An example: 15 years ago my wife owned a restaurant in CM. She had a visit from the taxman. He asked her how much she was making and she said times were tough and she was not making hardly anything after she had paid her staff. The taxman was very sympathetic, did not ask to see the books and they settled on a figure of 500 baht for the year. As it goes she was hardly making any money and what she said was truthful , but she could easily have been fibbing. How many don't tell the truth about thier tax affairs? So now they want to target westerners pensions as we are easy targets -
I prick my finger every morning, it's not an issue for me......we do not live in the west. At least you can easily purchase diebetis monitoring equipment...that was not the case 20 years ago so there has been progress

The case of the missing Viagra tablets
ThaiPauly replied to mostcurious's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am
They were knock offs at that price. An original pack of four costs at least 2,000 baht. They can work but you should check that your BP is normal before taking them, fake or otherwise, low blood pressure and any form of sexual enhancement drugs can give you a heart attack. ❤️ Be careful -
Nor did Bernard Trink 😆

Chiang Mai battles extensive forest fires and severe air pollution
ThaiPauly replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Not in Hua Hin.....property is the same price for buying or rental Food is a similar price Beers the same I am spending no more now than when I lived in Chiang Mai I can't speak for the islands but islands are always more expensive but you can travel all the way down south to Surat Thani and it's cheap...but HH is as far as I wanted to go as it has everything a westerner needs and is only 3 hours from Bangkok -

Regrettably I left my "forever home" in CM last September after 20 years because of the terrible burning season last year. I relocated to Hua Hin. Obviously looking at the pollution this year it seems I made the correct decision. I miss my mates as does my wife though. We already came back to visit in January and will go again in August. I hope that one day the government gets a handle on this as there could well be many more people like me that are not prepared to put up with it, turning CM into a ghost town. If you don't need to be there, then don't be there and potentially harm yourself, especially if you are a pensioner like me with health issues. It was stressful, but doable to sellup- buy and move. -
