Frozen pension policy turns British expat's dream into a nightmare
simple1 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Immigrants from outside the EU countries made a net fiscal contribution of about £5.2 billion, thus paying into the system about 3% more than they took out. In contrast, over the same period, natives made an overall negative fiscal contribution of £616.5 billion. https://www.ucl.ac.uk/economics/about-department/fiscal-effects-immigration-uk#:~:text=Immigrants from outside the EU,contribution of £616.5 billion. -

Officials Concerned Over Potential Overcrowding in Pattaya and Phuket
simple1 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The issues referenced in the OP have been ongoing for years yet Thai government keeps carrying on attracting ever more tourists without the improvements to the infrastructure required. Improvements that are made undergo repeated repair and maintenance - one can only assume due to issues created by the endemic corruption. I have a house in Pattaya (in my wife's name) which we keep maintained in order she has a place to live near her family after I die. It's the only reason we regularly return to Pattaya as the traffic is appalling. I have to admit some of the environment has improved somewhat, such as beach cleanliness, over the years, but yet... -
I was prescribed the drug for lower back pain caused by spinal stenosis. Stopped taking the drug due to concerns of dependence and mental health harm. Now take 10mg a day of Amitriptyline which is reasonably effective.

US-Israel: Netanyahu to reject any sanctions on army units

Numerous political leaders and Western commentators have criticised Netanyahu and his far right choices for Cabinet; they do not equate to "Hamas apologists", nor does the member. -
Moment Debate | Should UNRWA be shut down?
simple1 replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
Personally I don't know how unarmed UNRWA can stop / refuse Hamas operations within their infrastructure. As we know change management is a top down initiated process. Accordingly UNRWA will require significant resources to manage cultural change as well as security provided by UN members which would need to be agreed by the Security Council. So far as I'm aware there is no third party organisation with sufficient human resources, together with acceptance by the Gazan population, to replace UNRWA. How will Hamas be leveraged from power as killing will not cease the ideology, plus one assumes the killing of civilians will leave a long collective memory of resentment against Israel and the West. A very long road ahead, perhaps decades for change management, finance and to re-build Gaza. -
Usual cruel / moronic posts in this subject. An attempt to copy the Australia 'stop the boats' policy which cost a fortune per asylum seeker, the majority of whom were found to be legitimate and eventually resettled. One of the primary holding countries, PNG, eventually ruled via their Supreme Court the agreement was in fact contrary to international law. HMG appear to have gone totally over the top with wishing to enact law that deportees will be permanently relocated to Rwanda. Australian forced resettlement met with hostility in the recipient countries and deemed a failure. The core issue is UN member countries refuse to accept and fund sufficient numbers thereby some countries currently housing refugees for twenty plus years e.g. Myanmar, Pakistan, Iran etc etc Often without access to education, sufficient healthcare and so on. A cruel world indeed which will please some members.

Israel is at War - General discussion (pt3)

Although Off Topic I dispute your claim Ukraine is a proxy of the US in it's fight against Russia. You seem to ignore Russia invaded Ukraine without justification. -
Israel is at War - General discussion (pt3)

No surprise, long been forecast West Bank will erupt again after 50 years of occupation with no resolution in sight. I guess the Palestinian proxies will suffer major loss on life if or should I say, when, major escalation occurs. However, one assumes it will suit the current Israeli government land grab / Settler goals. -
Thanks everyone. My reason for asking was that we had a water bill for 1,500 baht after being way for a few years. However, we did have the house walls cleaned with high pressure water house, some concrete mixing and so on. I'll see what happens with next bill.

Kidnapping for ransom, abuse of the detained etc is not the sole domain of Muslims. Unfortunately occurs around the world including Mafia organisations, next door in Myanmar by the so called 'Buddhist' military etc. e.g. https://www.irrawaddy.com/news/burma/myanmar-military-kidnapping-civilians-for-ransom-in-rakhine.html

I've seen a few high value cars in Pattaya, but first time for a new RR. If I had that wealth I wouldn't be driving such a vehicle in Thailand - each to their own... -

Went to dinner last night in the back of Pattaya, there was a Rolls Royce SUV parked in the front; they cost approx 40 million baht. It was driven by a Chinese guy. -
One in eight Londoners were not registered to vote, Guess what happened, Sadiq ran a campaign to increase registered voters. BYW only roughly 15% of Londoners are Muslim. https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/londons-registered-voters- Accordingly, if you're that concerned get organised.

Got any proof to back up your claims - sounds like the usual right of centre BS. FYI the claim is those high net worth individuals are preferring the likes of UAE... https://www.cityam.com/explainer-why-are-the-super-rich-leaving-london/ BTW Sadiq Khan remains on course to become the first London mayor to win three successive terms of office... https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/london-mayoral-election-race-sadiq-khan-victory-polling-day-susan-hall-b1148954.html

He was talking to a near total lack of representation for minorities, which is an issue he wishes to improve upon as well as his and his families experience with racial abuse which needs to be addressed within society. Having a Thai wife who faces racial abuse, from time to time, in Australia, personally seems reasonable to me.
