Seems to be a common topic based on the sheer number of threads here over the years. When walking from/to Major via the overhead walkway I often looked down and have seen Police in discussions with both Thai and foreign people who like they've come from/are going to the Eastern Bus Terminal based on their accompanying luggage.

My vaguest recollection of the many, many, many threads is there may have been a focus on foreigners with strictly legal, prescription drugs but the position of the Police is often that these are not legal in Thailand owing to some convoluted drug approval agency regulations - i.e. your laws do not apply here - and that you must pay a small fine.

  2. do they have a back door?

Yep. Although I wouldn't call it a "back door", it's just a "door". They need to be able to manage/monitor/download updates to, the device.

Any device which you up-link to, like your own router, will be as secure as you make it.

  3. One phone to rule them all?  I vote Nexus 5 due to the radios.

Don't spend too much, because 4G is changing fast....in Thailand and the USA.

OP's price range  as stated in the thread's first post is 2,500 - 4,000, baht presumably, so a GNEX 5 (12,500 - 16,900) might not be appropriate?

  4. but the cost of rolling stock would be a burden on this country for the next 80 years.

Oh snap. somebody forgot to include the cost of locomotives, passenger and freight cars, tunnel expansion, station upgrades.....

Then remember to factor in the cost of replacing tack in the troubled south which gets blown up frequently.

  5. 347 billion is still no where near the price of the rice scheme..

You do realize that this is a budget, in toady's baht.

The finals costs will be double or triple.

And how will this benefit the masses? How many rice farmers do you think travel by train?

Today ~ 2% of freight - mostly mail - goes by rail, ~ 85% by truck (the remainder by water).

Rail will never be reliable or timely enough for anything but self-loading freight, and the Thai Post.

  6. True have scads of promotions, including some still in the "too good to be True" category....

There's even a 15/1.5 bursting to 30, along with 124 channels (+5 in HD) of cable TV, free analog phone and calling, all for 899.

  7. It is millions... not billions like the rice program. So this is quite affordable and dual track would help a lot. Not a high speed train but normal dual track. It would help and might even get less trucks on the roads.

Not sure if you are high, or just confused between baht and some other currency?

Just one, single dual-track project of 106 Km was budgeted at 11.348 BILLION Baht, and that was two years ago.

BANGKOK, 11 July 2012 - The cabinet yesterday approved the State Railway of Thailand (SRT)’s proposal to build a double-track railway from the eastern province of Chachoengsao to Kaeng Khoi in Saraburi, estimated to be worth 11.3 billion baht.

  8. Thought bubble: "Note to self, must stop drooling over the 15% skim on this whopper."

See former Transport Permanent Secretary's (and former chairman of the SRT board) Supoj Saplom "unusual wealth", surprised the second floor didn't give way when he moved ~ 1 billion baht upstairs to avoid the floods. cheesy.gif

From 2010, forget who was in charge then wink.png

Bhum Jai Thai bolstering Transport Ministry permanent secretary's oversight
    Watcharapong Thongrung
    The Nation February 2, 2010 12:00 am
The Bhum Jai Thai Party intends to strengthen the oversight ability of the Transport Ministry's permanent secretary in the area of rail development.
The move is a bid to ensure the scheduled bidding of many projects worth hundreds of billions of baht can start this year. The Cabinet today will be asked to approve a new board of directors for the State Railway of Thailand (SRT). Transport Ministry permanent secretary Supoj Saplom will chair the board, replacing deputy permanent secretary Tawalyarat Onsira, who resigned recently, said a ministry source.
The source said Newin Chidchob, de-facto leader of the Bhum Jai Thai Party, was behind the move.
"Supoj has been tasked with overseeing the entire railroad-development plan, which covers the Mass Rapid Transit Authority and the SRT. This will ensure the ministry can open bidding for the projects under the Thai Khemkhaeng (TKK) stimulus package," the source said.

Suspect "oversight" has a different meaning here.

  9. You probably get a slightly better bang for the buck with DOCSIS although it is challenging to compare exactly (16/1/ADSL/1,399 vs. 20/2/DOCSIS/1,299).

Fixed-line packages above 16/1 are delivered over VDSL, but that is limited to a tiny, select few buildings; below that are ADSL.

True's copper and DOCSIS systems are both in reasonably new condition; a DOCSIS system can be a bit more finicky to tune. Both scale equally well/poorly, and probably share similar domestic back-haul // international bandwidth traits.

ADSL is probably more secure in that you can utilize/manage your own modem; DOCSIS/VDSL modems can/will be accessed by True if needed.

There are a lot more double- and triple-play promotions/bundles with DOCSIS/Cable TV/analog telephone; there may even be 4x/5x bundles with TrueMove H and True WiFI?

    See pages 40 - 47 for True On-line promotions: http://true.listedcompany.com/misc/PRESN/20140605-TRUE-keyPromotion.pdf

Stay away from the Thompson CPE as that device cannot be put into bridge mode - based on a recent thread. It looks like there are at least four different Cisco CPE used. I can't recall any comments on the 'Technicolor' CPE.

Also maybe search, read/review some of the True DOCSIS threads here on ThaiVisa.

  11. I updated my Google Nexus 4 to Android 4.4.3, along with the new radio, and it is working well. It has the real Google Now Launcher.

I like the new dialer, and the radio seems a bit better with my 3G.

Here are the four key updates in Android KitKat 4.4.3 that Google has revealed so far

4.4 KitKat is the latest version of Google’s Android operating system. KitKat 4.4.3 is the latest patch to it. It’s going to start rolling out today to select devices. All clear? Great! Let’s have a look at the four key changes which are set to arrive on a handset near you.
    Bye-bye battery drain
It turns out that Android 4.4 introduced a bug which causes devices with Qualcomm processors to experience severely increased battery drain when using the camera app. That’s pretty bad. The 4.4.3 patch fixes that. That’s good!

  12. I saw your screenshot. It looks like you activated the call forwarding option. However, I am looking for a voicemail option after 5 tones, not forwarding to another number...

Forward when unanswered is the equivalent of what you are looking for, or at least as close as possible. Not sure how many rings that is with DTAC, between 5 and 8 I think. Forward when busy, may be obvious, think it gives you a chance to out current call on hold and answer, so a few ringey-dingeys? Forward when unreachable, when the phone is off or out of service, immediate.

Forward to number in screen shot (+66811802) is the voicemail number for DTAC; works for me, screenshot from Android (Call, Settings, Call forwarding). Easy peasy.

I think you can get into your voicemail service (IVR) using your mobile with *1802
