  1. I loved it when he said he first heard about "bridge-gate" after his morning workout. cheesy.gif

Well, let me tell you, everybody, I was blindsided yesterday morning. I was done with my workout yesterday morning and got a call from my communications director at about 8:50, 8:55, informing me of this story that had just broken on the Bergen Record website. That was the first time I knew about this. That was the first time I had seen any of the documents that were revealed yesterday.

  2. I think many recognize that the current anti-government activities are meant to insure that Shiniwatra 'phoenix' as it existed is not allowed to be reborn, especially given the impending "Apex" issue.

This sentence summed up my dissatisfaction with the single-minded goal of the stick to effectively kill the potential of a return, or increase in strength, of the Shinawatra clan, without offering alternatives or solutions:

The remarkable puzzle today is why no group of political entrepreneurs has emerged to compete against Thaksin in this great empty space in the Thai political marketplace.

Why is it that no groups are stepping up with solutions which might appeal to the rural and expanding middle-classes? Should this lack of "political entrepreneurs" be troubling?

I also found this statement both patronizing and flawed:

The Thai state generates and controls extraordinary wealth, and there has traditionally been plenty for everyone. Next-to-no-one starves in Thailand, and while the powerful and well-to-do are pleased to find their pictures in the social pages, they do not flaunt their wealth to the extent practiced in some other Asian societies and elsewhere in the world.

  3. From July, 2012...
Radar problem causes flight delay at Suvarnabhumi airport
BANGKOK, June 22 – The power supply from an uninterruptible power source (UPS) caused problems for radar controlling flights landing at Suvarnabhumi airport, forcing some aircraft to land at U-Tapao Airport in Rayong-Chon Buri provinces, according to Deputy Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt.
U-Tapao is 115 kilometres (about 70 miles) from Suvarnabhumi airport.
Mr Chadchart said that the UPS supplying electricity for the radar system experienced problem on Thursday evening, and the back-up power supply was not working. Engineers took around 40 minutes to repair.
During the time that there was no radar system functioning, some flights were waiting, queuing to land at Suvarnabhumi airport, but six flights were running out of fuel and opted to land at U-Tapao without any safety problems.
The aircraft re-fueled at U-Tapao before returning to land at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
He said that radar at Don Mueang airport was also not working given that it was under the single aircraft navigation system covering both Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi. Each airport facilitates incoming flights with its own control tower's navigation system only when aircraft enter a 10km radius of the airport.
A back-up radar system that could cover both airports together is at Thung Maha Mek and could operate effectively, but there was no staff manning the system at the time when it was needed, when there was power supply problem.

So yes, just relax, everything will be fine.

  4. This is Florida. The retired cop did nothing wrong. He is legally entitiled to stand his ground.

This is correct, although given the geriatric population in the Sunshine State, the statute might be more appropriately named, "sit your ground".

That said, Mr. Reeves has a right to defend himself with deadly force, since he feared for his life, as the deceased was brandishing buttered popcorn, and a cell-phone.

I suspect the gun/SyG lobby will provide a robust legal team for the accused, and he might end up with a few months incarceration at most, if that.

  5. Apple is also rumored to be considering a 12-ish inch tablet.

Here is the Samsung PR from CES...

  6. All of the international links from/to Thailand are symmetrical, so it makes sense that if I encounter issues while in Thailand accessing content in the U.S., I would also encounter similar issues when accessing content in Thailand from the U.S.

The OP seems to have just discovered this, and is, possibly without realizing it, slagging off Thailand. cheesy.gif

I travel to the U.S. frequently, every 60 days or so, and experience similar issues when accessing content in Thailand from the U.S., even though I might have a 25 Mbps/3 Mbps 3G connection, and a 110 Mbps/15 Mbps fixed-line connection. Obviously performance within the U.S. is phenomenal.

  7. The OP seems quite savvy on his "1st night in BKK", given all of his cogent responses.clap2.gif

The after hour clubs provide me with the best chance to do the above with only a few days in town.

Seems like you've done a lot of "research" on your own.whistling.gif

I assume you're paying for your hotel, meals, transport and libations? Or are you getting those for free too? cheesy.gif

  8. Cool. Thanks so much! Want to use up my 299 value I paid for the sim... when it 'roams' it tells me I can not use internet. Is there a setting to enable?

No clue, I honestly can't figure out what your exact issues may be and I am unfamiliar with your phone model/Android rev. I'm not certain you've properly configured an APN. You could dick around with this but I'd submit it would probably be best bin that SIM and get a new SIM/plan/promotion from AIS or DTAC and be done with it.

  9. On my true 3h it never works on 2g edge when roaming

Understood. Your phone – Moto G - based on your sig – supports 3G/850 MHz so you are unlikely to be in a location where you do not have CAT/850, but do have GSM1800. Were this to happen, you would fall back to GSM1800.

  10. Until such time as TrueMove's original GSM1800 MHz concession expires - originally 15 Sep 2013, given a life-line until 15 Sep 2014 - a TrueMove H SIM would be able to utilize the "old' TrueMove GSM1800 MHz network (for voice and 2G data), the CAT/850 MHz 3G network, the RealFuture 2100 MHz 3G/LTE network, assuming the device supported said frequencies and your account was provisioned for them.

Since the OP's device supports GSM1800, and 3G 2100 MHz, it will utilize those networks, without any user intervention, assuming a properly configured APN. So the OP's phone is primarily using the old TrueMove GSM1800 MHz network, for voice and 2G data, except in those locations, very few so far, where TrueMove H/Real Future have 3G/2100 MHz.

The OP would be better off with DTAC or AIS, both of which have far more 3G/2100 MHz coverage.

Are you saying if it roams, it will still be Truemove, just EDGE coverage? How do I enable internet for this kind of roaming?

    Yes.

    No need to enable anything.

  11. It looks like that model only supports 2100 megahertz 3G. So you may be hosed with truemove h. They mainly support 850 megahertz 3G, so you're bouncing around between 1800 MHz and maybe a little bit of 2100 3G. TrueMove H just doesn't have a lot of 2100 now. You may be better with DTAC or AIS as they have broad 2100 MHz coverage.

Sorry, what are the problems you are facing? Or what questions do you have?

I didn't realize it was working, but now understand that it is working fine, so not sure what the issue(s) may be?

With TrueMove H (520-00) you might roam onto TrueMove (520-99), or RealFuture (520-04), even without having enabled roaming on your phone.

This sounds like a dual SIM model so maybe some unique characteristics associated with that feature: i.e. putting the SIM in the correct slot?

  13. I guess I would contact my credit card company and initiate a dispute.

Are you outside of Thailand? If so, can you ask someone in Thailand to add value for you? If you are in Thailand, maybe just pop round a 7/11 and add value.

The TrueMove link clearly spells out that your CC ("Verfified by Visa/VbV, MC/SecureCode) must be supported, and not the CC CVV. Are you sure your CC has this extra security feature enabled?

  14. More details rather than none would be helpful

My best guess: you need to manually configure the APN, but this is just my first guess as I do not even know what make/model phone you have?

If you have a 299 baht SIM it may have some level of voice (minutes) and data (1 GB? For 7 days?) loaded onto it. Again, just a guess as I do not know what the exact SIM plan/promotion is.

    I might turn roaming off.

  15. Check with airline, OP mentioned EK...

Most decent bike shops will disassemble and pack your bike for you - they have lots of boxes available.

I brought my Cannondale from the U.S. when I relocated - it was packed by a bike shop for me and arrived fine, albeit at a separate baggage counter at the old BKK (DMK); UA didn't charge me but I had pretty high status with them and a massive baggage allotment - this was ~ 7 years ago.

In this thread there is some (older) detail re: EK and a bike.
