  1. The problem with some of these modified/branded units is that they are running custom firmware, in this case for TOT - this is done to make it easy for the end-user to set-up and configure. My best guess now is that there may be some issue with that firmware.

About the only thing I might alter is that "Dynamic Route" setting of RIP-2B, I might choose "Disable" if that is an option.

Also monitor the logs, especially during re-boots, copy/paste them to a text file which you save.

You could grind through adsthailand dot com (using search terms like tot, tp-link, etc., and Google Translate), maybe contact TP-Link via email or their facebook page, or try a known, good, working modem.

My sense is that your line is OK, but I'd really have to monitor it over a week or so to be sure. I've seen issues where the break-out of voice and data in the TOT POP gets mis-handled post installation, which results in strange characteristics. You could also contact TOT and ask them to test your line.

  2. I've landed as late as 03:00 - IRROPS - and as early as 05:00 and never had an issue getting a taxi at the official dispatch queue on level 1.

There are banks of departures and arrivals early AM so no shortage of drop-offs beginning at 03:00; suspect some then queue (for a nap) at the transpo. center to be dispatched back to to the terminal, or head to their rendezvous to drop off leaded/rented taxis as the popular exchange time on 12 hour dailies is 04:00/16:00.

  3. Yes I have a 850/2100 and tried the settings mentioned on another thread on TV but failed.

Assuming your phone is properly configured, and you have subscribed to a mobile data plan, you should be able get CAT/TrueMove H-850 MHz 3G pretty much everywhere.

Have you switched to Real Move/Real Future, the new 2100 MHz subsidiary? Or are you still on the old TrueMove? Or on CAT/TrueMove H?

Can you share the APN settings you are using? Which data plan have you subscribed to?

    Feel free to post screen-shots.

  4. Rip off also happens (and more frequent) in JFK & LAX.

Why don't you complain about that too?

You do realize that this sub-forum is titled, "Suvarnabhumi Airport"? Hence the topics tend to focus on activities/issues associated with SBIA/BKK rather than airports in New York or Los Angeles.

FWIW, I've never been ripped off at JFK, LGA, EWR or LAX.

  5. You can purchase SRT tickets up to 60 days prior to departure, and at any station - it doesn't have to be the one you are departing from.

Can you mail the tickets to your friends? Leave them at their hotel? Arrange to have them delivered to their hotel?

I do not believe there is any formal mechanism in place to leave purchased tickets for a third party.

As mentioned the tracks are being repaired, and some say this repair might take a lot longer than forecast, maybe even to the end of December, and as a bus is required to complete the journey between Uttaradit and Chiang Mai, very few people are taking the train. SO it may be relatively easy for your friends to purchase tickets themselves on the day of travel. A lot of the VIP bus services are running at capacity, and they are even adding capacity to cover this short-term demand.

It might be best for your friends to arrange their own air travel given the relative price/performance factor? BKK-CNX on PG (Bangkok Airways) is 2,250 baht all in (Web Saver: one-way). (Train is ~ 850 baht, 2nd class air con, VIP/999 bus is ~ 880 baht). Thai Airways and Air Asia also service BKK/DMK-CNX.

  6. Farang should pay a little more and go for the Express.

With 60 minute intervals to Phaya Thai, or 45 minute intervals to Makkasan, my primary issue with the Express train(s) is not the cost but rather the wait. If I miss just an Express train I am disinclined to wait 50, or 35, minutes for another when there is a City Line train departing in less than 15 minutes. If there is an Express train leaving within the next 10 minutes I'll take it, otherwise I'll take the City Line.

  7. Maybe a combination of 3G and affiliated (paid) WiFi service would suffice?

Many smartphones can be used as WiFi APs allowing one to share the 3G connection. An aircard can be purchased for less than 1,000 baht, and a 5 GB 3G plan is ~ 1,000 baht. TrueMove H might be a good option as they have good coverage and a great affiliated WiFi program with 100,000 hotspots throughout the country.

  8. Can you post Interface Setup, Internet tab? The one where you configure the ADSL port.

At this point I might be inclined to try a different - not a TP-Link - known, good, working modem/router.

Can you check with a/the neighbor to verify your settings are the same as theirs?

  9. Maybe re-configure your DNS to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Edit PVC 0). (It looks like it cannot find the specified/default TOT DNS server so keeps looping.)

It also looks like there may be a configuration issue on the WAN port, but I'd have to see the edit/set-up screens.

Can you post a screenshot of the device status when you have a connection? I want to see that you are getting an IP, Gateway and DNS.

Again, right now it seems like a config. issue, but these TP-Link units always have DSL issues; we dropped them as a supplier because of these problems.

You should check to see if there is a FW update for this unit.

  10. The official taxi queue is on the ground floor, aka level 1. There are typically multiple desks staffed dispatching taxis, 7x24. These should use the meter.

If in a pinch, you can try level 4, aka Departures, where there will be taxis dropping people off who are flying out. Simply negotiate a reasonable fare, maybe 400 - 500 baht, with one of these.

The SARL trains start running ~ 06:00.

For 240Bt my wife and daughter came to the Airport Suwarnaabuhmi at 11 PM for 240Bt. and now to get back home after dropping off a friend,

Next time, just keep the same taxi. Drop the "friend" off, and leave. Say your goodbyes before, the "friend" should be able to find their check-in desk.

  11. Any helpers?

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Line looks fine, but that is based on your single 'snap-shot'.

Can you get into the Log? If so, post the details, especially during one your frequent re-boots. That looks like a TP-Link, or D-Link UI. What is the make/model? Any neighbors nearby on TOT? Can you see if they are having similar issues?

Can you try a different modem/router? Do you have a telephone on this line? If so, any issues calling in/out, noise on the line?

  12. My best guess is that TrueMove/(H) is Verizon's current roaming partner here now. As your new Nokia 105 supports GSM 900/1800, you are getting onto TrueMove's legacy GSM1800 MHz network. Not sure what will happen when that network goes away next year?

AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon all have international roaming partners here, and provide cross-roaming for Thai customers (on AT&T, T-Mo) when in the U.S.

There has been a complete rejiggering of roaming partnerships, perhaps as a result of the new 2100 MHz subsidiaries. I haven't stayed up to date, except to notice that my DTAC SIM roams in the U.S. fine (on T-Mo and/or AT&T); and my T-Mo Pre-paid SIM roams here in Thailand, on AIS at least, which is a recent development.

You can port your existing Verizon number out to any other provider, including AT&T, T-Mo, or a VoIP provider, if you wanted to save some money. You can maintain a T-Mo pre-paid number for $100/year, while a VoIP number might be as little as $40/year. (Google Voice is still free - I keep a Google Voice number as it supports in-bound SMS, which is handy for OTPs.)

  13. Is this a "new" problem?

    Can you share any history?

Are you able to access the UI of the unit? If so, can you determine the line stats, and maybe share them here?

Assume you know the configuration details so you could set up a new router?

Lastly, could you borrow a known good/working modem/router from someone? This would possibly eliminate the router as an issue, and save you from purchasing a new unit.

My best/only guess, based on zero information, is that there is something wrong with your line rather than your modem/router.

  14. Note that per the Terms, one must be a customer of the new TrueMove H 2100 MHz subsidiary "Real Move" (520-04) either via a new SIM, or a port in. Real Move has limited deployment at present. (Once subscribed one can use both the old/existing CAT/TrueMove H 850 MHz network and the new, TrueMove H/Real Move 2100 MHz network(s).)

    Quote:

The signal that appears while dialing must be Real Move 3G or LTE only.
  15. Ploen Chit BTS station may be a bit closer to Bumrungrad Hospital than Nana? Use Exit #3, walk east, under the Expressway, and turn left up Sukhumvit Soi 1. This stop/exit would also be better if taking a motorbike taxi.

If you will have luggage please be aware that you may have to carry it down some stairs, at one or more points during your trip.

  16. You need a local (Texas) valid number for OTP's delivered via SMS? Or for some other reasons?

Personally I would get a Google Voice number, which supports SMS? Or a VoIP number via something like magicJack/netTalk.

What is this AT&T SIM you have? Pre-paid? Post-paid? Contract? Current?

I am honestly not sure if T-Mo and/or AT&T have international roaming for Thailand on their pay as you go plans. T-Mo did just announce a major IR enhancement, which appears to include Thailand, but that looks to require a specific recurring plan.

  17. Personally I would buy the N9000 variant and use it with AT&T or T-Mo in the U.S.A., either directly or via one of their many, many, many MVNOs, and with any of the service providers here in Thailand. But this would be highly dependent on exact locations. I use T-Mo directly, via their $3/day plan during my short but frequent trips to the U.S. I get 3G on their re-farmed 1900 MHz network (from AT&T) in L.A., S.F., Chicago, NYC, Wash DC. Boston.

I can't see how you can avail yourself of Verizon's 4G/LTE network in the U.S. without purchasing their variant (Developer's Edition: SM-900V, $699), and subscribing to some sort of "month-to-month contract?

    T-Mobile uses 1900 MHz/3G, and 1700/2100 MHz (AWS) for both/either 3G and 4G.

TrueMove H uses 850 MHz for 3G via CAT, 2100 MHz for 3G via RealMove and 2100 MHz 4G/LTE in some locales.

The N9005 N3 variant might "future-proof" you for 4G/LTE here in Thailand, but that's probably a stretch given the obstacles currently in place.

4G/LTE actually is more of a benefit for the service provider than the end-user; 3G should be more than adequate for all mobile data requirements for the next ~ 4 years.

I'd still need more details re: your requirements, time spent in various countries and even exact location(s) in the U.S. before refining any recommendations. A Google Nexus 5 might end up being a better, more cost-effective solution?

  18. Will this work for pre paid customers?

Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa app

    Yes. Scroll down for T's & C's: http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/campaign/entry/2176?ln=en

Looks like 2 GB for the first 30 days, then 200 MB for the next 10 months - perhaps over 7 days; the terms are a bit confusing - assuming you top-up at least 50 baht/month.

Terms and Conditions of the “3G Welcome Pack 4GB” Promotion
    1. The “3G Welcome Pack 4GB” promotion is for the TrueMove H customers of the Real Move Co., Ltd.
("Real Move") registered as individual postpaid and prepaid customers who use the mobile phones or mobile devices
that support 850 MHz or that is compatible with 850 and 2100 MHz (“Device”), except the customers under the
Samsung Galaxy Pocket NEO promotion or customers who use iSIM package. | 2. The customers as in 1 will receive
the privilege to use free 3G+/EDGE/GPRS for 4 GB by registering from August 20, 2013 to October 31, 2013 or as
    otherwise notified by Real Move.
The registration steps are as follows.
2.1 Receive the first 2 GB : for both postpaid and prepaid customers
    1) after the first registration by typing *850# and pressing call (free of charge). (The signal that appears while
dialing must be Real Move 3G or LTE only.)
    2) the customers will receive the SMS to confirm the right by clicking the URL link on the SMS. Once the
confirmation is made via website or SMS from Real Move, | 3) the customer will be entitled to use the first
2GB of 3G+/EDGE/GPRS which will be valid for 30 days from the date of receipt and
2.2. Receive the last 2 GB under the following terms
2.2.1. Postpaid Customers 1) the customers will be entitled to use the 3G+/EDGE/GPRS for 10 cycles (1 cycle
equals to 30 days) by having 200 MB for each cycle. The first cycle will start after the end of the first use period as in 2.1 by typing *850*200# and pressing call (free of charge) (The signal that appears while dialing must be Real Move 3G or LTE only.) | 2) the customers will receive the SMS to confirm the right by clicking the URL link on the SMS. Once receiving the confirmation SMS from Real Move, the customers will be able to use his right for each cycle within 7 days after receiving Real Move confirmation. | 3) wait for the start date notification SMS from Real Move. 3G+/EDGE/GPRS will be available on the notified date of each cycle and valid for 7 days from the first use date of each cycle.
2.2.2. Prepaid Customers 1) the customers will be entitled to use 3G+/EDGE/GPRS for 10 cycles (1 cycle equals
to 30 days) by having 200 MB for each cycle. The first cycle will start after the end of the first use period
as in 2.1 when top up at least 50 baht in each cycle and receive the confirmation SMS. | 2) The right for
each cycle will only be valid for 7 days from the date of receipt.
2.2.3. The right cannot be accumulated or roll over to next cycle.
2.2.4. If the customers fail to register or to top up in any cycle, they will be deemed to waive their right for
    such cycle.
    3. The customers can only register 1 time per 1 mobile phone number per 1 device.
    4. Any rights mentioned in this promotion cannot be traded, refunded or turned into cash or other items, and cannot be
transferred to any other individual or juristic person.
    5. Real Move reserves the right to amend, change, cease or cancel without prior notification if there is any regulations,
orders or policies of the related public authorities that require the amendment, change, cease or cancellation of this
service, or that such order increase the operational burdens of Real Move.
I don't know if the problem is in my phone (Samsung Galaxy Y Duos S6102).
Depends on the version you have: 900/2100 or 850/2100. Given the former, along with TrueMove H's lack of 2100 MHz deployment you may be challenged. If the latter (850/2100) you should be good to go assuming you've configured your phone properly.
  19. I am fairly certain that all three major service providers offer one day, 7 day, 10 day and 30 day mobile data options.

The one day options are ~ 49 baht and have unlimited usage with a fair-use cap of ~ 150 MB.

    AIS/One-2-Call: *104*29*9

    DTAC/Happy: *777*1#

    TrueMove H: *900*3302#

So for three (3) days just repeat twice; clock may start/stop at 23:59/00:01 so beware; four (4) days might steer one up to a weekly plan, which typically has a 1 GB FuP.
