The height might be useful if you combine it with a topographic map. But your idea to seek help from the local Land Office is a good one. I just had a look at the copy of the chanote of the land my wife posesses. Indications on the drawing are only some strange numbers near to the "pillars" that show the boundaries, and these were not coordinates, either. Not to speak about elevation. -

You would not believe it but I have even that ! I was once interested about the tides at our location and I found a table. Given your level of proposed accuracy then there are of course the waves to be accunted for. The sea is not flat but in constant motion...... -

Thanks. I have it on all of my PCs, too. In fact I hate mobile phones but you cannot live without them the more time passes. Helpful at least if my missus is on a shopping crusade and wants to show me something before buying. Nice feature this video call. -

If this were all that was to it - done in a jiffy. Our condo house is located right at the beach. All I needed to do is to walk down to the lobby -

Thank you for your extensive elaboration about the subject ! Unfortunately you confirm most of my worries. As for the barometric method: I do not intend to write a dissertation about it - and the fact that I would need a thermometer with a precision down to a hundredth of a degree.....better forget. You mention Dr. Livingston. You mean THAT Dr. Livingston "I presume" ???? If so than that is indeed some time ago. ???? Livingston died in 1873. Interesting that technonolgy has not evolved to such a degree since then that what used to be a complicated procedure cannot be obtained in a $10 handheld device nowadays. -

We stay near Pattaya ..... Drainage technique would be nice, though - but I am not so sure if this would be an item to save building cost on. -

I have had a look at that. Never seen any apps that gather so much information from your phone - and I am severely allergic to share personal data. I would not use them even if they were accurate (which they are not I suppose anyway - a dedicated GPS such as the better Garmin models might well be above THB 20K). And this is the price I have seen on websites abroad - might be a multiple in Thailand. -

Mean in any case. I would actually dream of owning a boat - but under different circumstances ???? -

Thank you all for all the interesting comments. Actually the idea is to buy a house already finished and ready to move in. Just dont want to be surprized that we suddenly stay in the water as so many have been even lately. And there is more to come. We have gone through building one house (at least that is what they called this construction) in the country once. I would not have the nerve to go through that again and I fear as well that price-wise it could run out of control. -
I am looking for a possibility to measure the height of the current location with a mobile device and high accuracy (my idea is something around 1 m resolution). I intend to use it to determine the possibility of water influx when deciding on the location of a new house - together with a topographic map. Third source for that would be interviewing neighbors - but I am not really convinced that I could trust them. Has anybody ever done that and if yes are there any recommandations ? There seem to be two systems, based on either GPS triangulation or hyperbaric measurement. I doubt that any mobile phone app could satisfy my requirement of accuracy. The solution does not have to be dirt cheap - its part of the budget for the house). I have searched special devices like Garmin but they do not give proper indication of accuracy either. GPS should acutally be more accurate (maybe both systems would require calibration) but since I do not have access to military equipment this is maybe nothing than wishful thinking. Thanks for any replies or comments.

There are many thousands of sightings and even stranger documented ocurrences. Some of these are probably fake and many not related to anything "extraterrestrial". But remember that only one - only ONE single occurance out of many thousands need to be true. And there are really very strange happenings that even conservative governments and reliable, credible fellows do not deny. I do not believe in the theory that these sighings are advanced technology from another country here on earth. The gap observed would be too big that this would seem probable although some occurences that are not extreme could be of that category, too. Nobody knows what these events (lets focus on the credible ones) really are, thats why you call them "unidentifible". But what I think is really a shame that the public is not more open to acknowledge these phenomena for what they are - nothing more - nothing less. Instead they are connected to insane, weird ideas, conspirancy therories and alike and everybody speaking about them is prone to be designated as a weirdo. This does not help to develop a valid understanding. There is for example the idea that we are experiencing visitors from the far future of our own planet from a time where current mankind has long been extinguished and after billions of years only to be again replaced with a new generation of a "next" intelligent race who has developed a completely different technology, making for example time travel possible. That sounds crazy but everybody rejecting that view too easily only shows his own limitations of phantasy and openness. And I think that is what this age in which we are living now urgently needs to promote in various ways, be it concerning unidentifiable objects or political situations. We are limiting ourselves and this need not only not be - but we are harming ourselves that way. And this is much more stupid than any seemingly strange uncommon idea can be.

Answers directly in your quote. I hope this eradicates your last doubt.

This did not happen in Thailand but in the US - nevertheless I post it because it is by far the most funny thing I have seen/heard of in this regard: "A woman wore a mask but she had cut out a hole in it where her mouth was. Being asked why she did that she answered: Because I can breathe better that way".

Then there is nothing to worry.....although.....I am not sure about all this. Maybe some run around somewhere - they seem more than we think ????

Maybe most of the members are assembled in a specific country if you follow current politics.

I have corrected my mistake in a post above which you obviously did not read. -
I think there are 3 different categories in which you would either behave as a “sheep” or not: Law and regulations (required behaviour) Social interactions (expected behaviour) Individual likings (like fashion, haircut etc.) You could of course decide to behave as you like in any of these categories but you just must bear the consequences as for all of your actions. So in a category 1 case I would wear Jacket and tie if a certain restaurant requires it. Otherwise I would not be served. Or I would do a 90 day report. I see no negative notion in these things. Accept it or not or bear the consequences. I would not call that “sheep” behaviour. Sheep factor = 10 for me. For category 2 certain behaviours are not strictly law or absolutely required but useful. Because they facilitate living together. This may not need to bother you if you are living alone in the middle of nowhere but as soon as if you interact with many different individuals it is wise to adopt to what is an “unwritten” law. Like “wai” back if you are “wai’d” (depending on the situation). Again you could do what you want – and bear the consequences again. You might hopefully know what these are. Your choice. I do not think it is wise to put down people with a negative idea as “sheep” that only like to get along well with others. Sheep factor = 8 for me. For category 3 this a completely different matter. Of course there is some overlapping with category 2 and 1 (you would not show up in a clown costume at a funeral, neither would you show up with a bathing suit while at work at a bank). But as far as fashion, haircuts etc. are concerned I feel completely free as long there are no mandatory restrictions. I would never follow a fashion trend or cheerish a certain brand as long as I do not like the design. In this regard I am an unconditional “Non-Sheep”. Sheep factor = 0 for me.

Should Expats Be Able to Speak Thai

...and vice versa. I find it quite amusing when my wife asks: Was it "Fishcat" or "Catfish" again ? -
Let me get this straight for I got besides two likes as well one "confused" and one "sad" reaction which I do not understand. The superb tea was the only item we went especially to buy at Lotus's (formerly Tesco Lotus). Once it was eliminated there was no more need to go. I apologize to the Marketing Manager - but seriously I think it would have been better to leave this product on offer for I know many fellow members did like this product particularily well. Maybe it can be reintroduced again ? But no need to be confused or sad about this.

Or "Grundstücksverkehrsgenehmigungszuständigkeitsübertragungsverordnung". No joke, this word exists. -
Without doubt. The best from the proposed list. To the OP: If you take this option please be aware that to get even a tiny glimpse of Japan you need time. Even doubling or triple your initial timeframe of a 10-14 days holiday wont do it real justice. But better 30 days (plus a bit - visas ?) than nothing. You should not miss Kyoto after a nice Shinkansen ride from Tokyo when you are already in the country. And Tokyo alone is HUGE. Especially the outskirts will give you a worthwile and not so touristic feel and insight. Anybody saying Japan / Tokyo is bland does really not know what he is talking about. The absolute opposite is true. Singapore on the other hand is boring after 2 days. My next proposal would be Venice (or a combination of Venice and Paris). There the time would be less of a problem (maybe the cost is - for example the hotel situation in Paris is a nightmare - and I do not know your budget). These places are touristic and might be a bit crowded but this is for a reason. In any case these visits will stay with you forever. But still then the time would be something to consider because of the long flights (take the Business Class if you can afford it). And the shorter the holiday the more you should prepare its planning. After all what you intend to do should create the experience of a lifetime - or am I mistaken in this regard ? Then I would suggest you plan for a little bit longer and have an incredible time in either Japan or Venice/Paris. I wish you and your wife all the best. Enjoy.
