  1. Of course you and @RayWright are correct ! I apologize for the wrong info. Somehow I managed to think of Dell (and "Daisy" as well) the whole time. Maybe because this was a very long time ago ? It is exactly this XEROX Alto that is shown in the picture above that I saw demonstrated and it was revolutionary if you think that for example word processors were character based at the time, splitting a tiny screen into even tinier parts showing the text in the upper portion and reserving the lower portion for a list of commands to manipulate the text. No mouse of course. "Daisy" as a brand name was in my mind because we sold a system with that name later on - but this one was exclusively for designing electronic circuits. I think I have actually witnessed quite a big portion of (practical) IT history. Learned to type on a strictly mechanical standard typewriter, then came the IBM selectric with the typewriter ball (this one dates actually much more back than I thought - I googled it just before), then typewriters with memory, Apple II and yes, Lisa, but this was a short lived model (given its price at the time maybe) only to be replaced by the MacIntosh which was a huge commercial success. Some time IBM stepped in (and therefore Gates with his DOS) I was in fact raised in the middle of that era were the transition from tubes to transistors on a broad scale took place as well. Remember we had tube based radios at home (not to speak of TVs). At the university we had to punch punchcards with the code (written in PL/1) and hand it in for processing only to discover that some were not punched correctly later on ????. I still own somewhere a handbook for programming in machine language and I have still an original handbook of the Commodore 64. My God what a big difference to today. But one of the revolutions was started with this Xerox Alto with mouse, windows, laser printers and a screen that showed for the first time a full A4 page.
  2. I know where Bangkok is. Been there the first time in 1975. I just had mistakenly assumed that you were the OP. So no need to feel sorry. I am happy that my mistake did obviously contribute to your well being.
  3. Are you responding to me ? If so I dont have the slightest clue what your are talking about. Suit me ? I thought you are the one that needs a test. And I would recommend to get the best there is available. All these services are comparably cheap in Thailand. New glasses are an important investment and hopefully for some years. It pays off to spend a little bit more (for me that is).
  4. Forget about relying on an automatic machine. There are so many variables to be accounted for that my last check at my Swiss optician took about 2 hours. They even measure irregularities on the surface of your eye and it is all an interactive process since your perception may slightly alter during the procedure according to my experience. It is even better to do the test twice on two different days and time periods (morning/afternoon). Especially if you might have some sickness that correlates to your vision capabilities (like me, I am a diabetic 2) And then do not forget the manufacturing. Example: The glasses need to be matched with your individual centers of your eyes. One eye of mine is a bit higher than the other. Fortunately I did not yet need to get a new pair of glasses, so I cannot recommend a decent shop, but I have heard there are dedicated eye centers / hospitals (Rutnin ?). I would not rely on a simple shop that just sells glasses. I am absolutely sure some hospitals do have the necessary equipment and can perform an accurate test.
  5. I am willing to conclude any bet as far as your death is concerned and issue a certificate if required. As far as the buffalo goes: This is entirely up to you - may be better - may even be worse.
  6. The whole revolutionary concept of "Windows" instead of a character based design is actually from Dell without searching on Google I think I recall it was called "Daisy". I had the pleasure to attend a demonstration of the original together with the then new laser printers at a price of a modest house. The audience was blown away despite of that. But the McIntosh hardware with its (too) tiny screen was a nightmare, but nevertheless revolutionary.
  7. We do shop everywhere but NOT at Lotus's. We stopped when they eliminated the former Tesco Lotus Tea - it was the best I knew was available in Thailand. Well done Mr. Marketing Manager.
  8. We both cook at home and eat out. We cook at home because we know a lot of recipes we like, have a whole library of them and can cook food unavailable in any restaurant we know. Then we may as well tailor the portions. Both my wife and myself have a long experience cooking and we brought with us a more than complete selection of kitchen equipment. We eat at restaurants because we might be sometimes lazy to cook or because we would like a speciality which is difficult to make ourselves or which takes too much time to prepare. Besides we do not have a real Wok cooking site (requires gas) and some dishes are therefore not possible to make. We dine as well outside because we may order special menues or just want to sit in an elegant setting effortlessly.
  9. No, I have not been to a winery here. But I said that I do not know much on the subject. So no need to put me down. Just enjoying the discussion. I am an expert on other things. But I never had a drinkable Thai wine. That is nothing but the truth.
  10. It is not by chance called Phujuk ? (referring to James Bond) ???? Never had a drinkable Thai wine. I wonder actually why but I am far from being an expert. The Grapes may be imported, there is plenty of sun. Maybe the soil or the change of seasons ? - or they dont know exactly how to do it (although I do not think that this is the reason).
  11. @Lacessit is absolutely spot on. And the number of customers do obviously not always reflect the quality of the product. Many millions voted for the Orange One. Equally important: how about the paper cup atmosphere ? Have you ever been to a Coffee House in Vienna ?
  12. How else do you want to bring the (red) wine to the recommended drinking temperature (usually well below 20 degrees Celsius) in Thailands climate ? He even uses a dedicated wine storage. Plebs like me must be satisfied with a normal fridge just to cool it down before opening. But I have less to store. We usually drink it more or less o the spot. (I did only now see the post of ThailandRyan)
  13. I have a credit card (a real credit card) as a partner card of my wife's card. It is useful because some online shops or hotels do not accept debit cards. What I do not like about it is that there is absolutely no benefit when travelling. With my old Mastercard back in Switzerland I had a substantial insurance in case of death and various other benefits. Just included. Besides I find that not all shops use two factor authentication or 3-D secure here. A nuisance since Paypal cannot be used anymore.
  14. Melatonin does not work at all for me. And I have tried various doses.
  15. Barilla ? No. 1 or 5 ? You see, the questions never stop. For me it is: I do not believe in a Creator God. It is even relatively easy to prove that such entity cannot exist, but I dont mind if some people (there seem to be a lot) believe differently. The most important thing is that their belief is beneficial in some way.
  16. What proof you would accept ? Is not your own experience of life enough to prove that actions bear consequences ? For Stalin and all the rest please read again my post above. And your statement "Karma is a myth for fools to believe in", does not only lack proof as well, it does show that you unfortunately did not have the chance yet to contemplate the issue well. But I suggest to concentrate again on the main topic here. Good luck anyway.
  17. Karma is a difficult topic to understand. Just BECAUSE it encompasses endless lifetimes. That is the reason why seemingly men of very low character seem to be favoured by fate. But this may be due to Karmic imprints from whenever times past. The impact of their present actions will not vanish nevertheless and bear their fruits.
  18. As Ajahn Brahm, a Cambridge educated scientist who become a buddhist monk, Abbot of some temples and spritual advisor of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia used to say: "Dont be angry with them, Karma will get the bastards anyway".
  19. I found it would be of best use when visiting up country. There we always have to park outside. And even in our garage cats love to jump on it. I understand that. After all it is a nice car and to see it scratched does not make me too much happy ????. And the birds are really disturbing. Fortunately we use it a lot and detect some of the unwanted stuff early enough. Otherwise the acidity will have its effects.
  20. I would have thought that a car cover does on the contrary avoid scratching of cats - which happend a lot on our car. Maybe the cover need to have a certain thickness. One other advantage is to protect the car from birds <deleted> which may be difficult to remove after a while. And dogs are scratching, too.
  21. I did a quick research on the net. In short: F-35A = "normal" version with horizontal takeoff and landing for the US Army and for export F-35B = US-Navy-Version with vertical takeoff capabilities. Used as well by very few selected foreign countries such as Italy F-35C = Special version for Aircraft Carriers, wings are bigger and may be folded Source: Wikipedia
  22. I did not change anything on my system before the notifications stopped. However, I have now configured both [email protected] and the domain aseannow.com as "friend" (I hope I am not wrong with this assumption) in my Thunderbird email client and I receive everything in the normal inbox showing even more content (such as avatars) as before. Thanks again.
  23. That may be true for your friends and family, but as a generalization this is simply nonsense. MY whole family plus relatives and friends are living examples of this. All vaccinated and no one ever had Covid. But I also know one person who was not vaccinated and died of Covid.
  24. I have both from: Fast = go to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya (Jomtien Branch, the small one) Free = nope, but it is not expensive at all, depends how much it is worth for you
  25. The Swiss deal is for 36 planes. Maybe they would get a volume discount. Currently a referendum is running against the acquisition, but there might not be enough time to stop the deal anymore. And by the way, the F-35 comes in different versions which are as well different pricewise.
