Do you believe in Tradition and why
moogradod replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
This is an excellent answer to the question. It may even serve as a guideline to practically everything you do think or plan. -
Really a large span. But I am prepared to budget more than 50K. I did not see your post at a first glance because for some reason I do not remember I had you on ignore which I have corrected now again.

We will do that anyway, in the past parties with a majority of the poor (and rich) peasants were frequently conducted. Not uncommon, the ordination of an uncles sons amounted to a really large party including Luk Thung dancers on a big stage (at a monks ordination !) with hundreds of invitees.

It should help, though - therefore not entirely up to me but I am no cheap charlie and my wallet size is not the smallest either.

I am well prepared for even beyond that. This includes a rest of a hospital bill (although he was "insured" via 30Baht scheme.

No village insurance as far as my wife and I know. The family member was close. The father of my wife. We dont mind any prolonged period of "monking" (interesting term, did not hear that before) as we both are Buddhists (She is Theravadin and I draw my inspiration from the Tibetan tradition). We will drive there tomorrow in an emergency move and hope to get "through" Bangkok without getting washed away by any flood. The face-saving bit does play a role. I noticed that especially in smaller Moobaans it is important, although I would not care about that - for the family this is more important. Mind setting of the group.

A family member of my wife has died. The family (located in a rural area near Si Khio) is poor and need financial assistance. Does anybody know from personal experience (own familiy or close friend) what would be appropriate in this case ? Temple, Burial, Administration etc. and whatever, I do not have any experience. Thank you for your help in these difficult times.

Nobody has replied yet to this post. I therefore assume that I might bei either alone with this problem or very few do experience the same but have maybe not yet discovered that. @Support: What do you want me to do now ? Reactivate the old ticket which I thought to be solved by sending an email again ? And how can I open a Support Account to follow up on the ticket then ? Use a new email adress different from my usual aseannow registered adress ? What is the full name ? My real name or the registered name that is visible to everybody ? Thank you for helping. Kind regards moogradod

Since a few days I have the follwing problem regardless which device (2 Windows 10 desktops, iPAD, Samsung mobile) I use: When I get an Email notification then when pressing the button "Go to this post" will lead me to the following screen. This happens most of the time (>99%), but on rare occasion it leads me to the correct topic. I have contacted support, they opened a ticket and for a short time it seemed to work again, but it does not. I tried to connect via both WLAN and mobile data - same thing. I did not change anything on my configurations (which are equipped with different security measures) and it does not work for all my devices. So it must be a problem on the aseannow side. When I sign in using the above button it works correctly but it did work without that for years. Besides: When I contacted support I used my real name in the field "Name" because I thought it was needed to authenticate my request. I later requested to delete my name in the correspondance because this is an anonymous forum. I tried as well to register for the Support Account using my normal Email I use for aseannow notifications to follow up on the status of the ticket. This was not accepted with the message "This Email is already in use". Does anybody have similar errors ? (Not getting redirected to the topic you want to see which is referenced in the Email notification) Now I do not know what the status of my request is. Could please somebody seriously look into the matter and come up with a solution (please not a workaround like "always stay logged in"). I would like to work it as it used to be. Thank you very much moogradod

Strange things obviously happen sometimes. But this is nothing compared to what happened in Italy many years ago. I found a corresponding post on the net: As you can see from this report everything was undertaken involving the highest authorities to explain the phenomena - but until today to no avail: https://www.odditycentral.com/<deleted>/italian-village-plagued-by-mysterious-fires-has-been-puzzling-scientists-for-years.html

How nice if this would be true. It will be maybe in the very long run. Centuries ahead maybe. Humanity should not give up. But look at the situation today: There are many countries where they give a sh*t about prosperity of the many. Instead it is prosperity for a few and this might not be changing for quite some time. And security might be "North Korea Style". Everything quiet and secure. But do you want to live that way ? It will be exactly the Chinese Way of the future I unfortunately suspect. Because the basic understanding of compassion is lacking and it is difficult to acquire this attitude.

Girls and Tatoos, how much is too much ?
moogradod replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I do not like tatoos on women, even the very smallest ones. They are selling thousand of different brands of body cream - all with the word "white" or "whitening" in its label (I think you can really not find a brand without it) and then they spoil the intended setting with a tatoo ? It is like painting a house anew in splendid white and then spray a graffity on its wall. -

Measuring height above sea level / ground with accuracy
moogradod replied to moogradod's topic in General Topics
I am really sorry for you. I am sure you have investigated all possibilitites of legal action you could take. In other countries I know this would end up in the court and there would be a pretty good chance that your nice neighbor would have to remove his wall which does damage YOUR property - let alone pay compensation for the damage already made in the past. As always maybe a matter of who has the better lawyer. If everything fails - can you not conclude an agreement that you pay for some drainage in his wall (some pipes penetrating the wall or similar ?) This would be unfair, but (maybe) at least help you. Or then if water covers your property is there no way to redirect it back to HIS land ? If he can and may build a wall so can you.... But thanks for the advice. -
As an alien I would not want to "identify myself" like I would not try to introduce myself to a colony of ants. Useless. But as for my theory "UFOs" do not need necessarily be of extraterrestrial origin. In this case the lack of contact might be explained otherwise and be even logical. In fact I have still to see any argument against what I propose (lets say "imagine") (see above somewhere). There is definitely something going on which is very mysterious. The Nimitz report makes for a very interesting read.

Traditionally, Gyoza are many times served as a side dish to Ramen. Unforatunately there is no Osho restaurant in Pattaya or its vicinity. But then again, there is no really phantastic Ramen-Ya either here, all only so la la. I would love to have a very good Ramen Shop or a Gyoza restaurant here. The best for Gyoza I know is a small shop in Terminal 21 at the Dolphin Roundabout where we occasionally buy a carton of 30 and bring 'em home. They prepare them on the spot (I like the Yaki-Gyoza variety). We could do all ourselves, but with age I increasingly get lazy to cook.

Measuring height above sea level / ground with accuracy
moogradod replied to moogradod's topic in General Topics
Thank you but I always said that the height is only to be used in connection with a topographic map. To detect where possible "basins" are. Please dont think that I would have left out the most obvious. Now I am learning about measuring height above sea level which I think is an interesting subject for there is no absolute sea level. We have witnessed the 2011 flood and it has had a huge impact on our travel plans by car. What I cannot understand that the poperty market in Bangkok is still flourishing as it is. Granted, Bangkok has been flooded because of rain many times long before 2011. I visited BKK the first time in 1975. But it was always a short event just affecting Tuk-Tuk prices for a while. -
One of several superpowers ? I agree but then the biggest of them I suppose. Who is there to contend ? Russia ? Does not need much explanation to rule that out. USA ? I believe they are in deep decay. India ? Still would need a lot of more time. They will all become minor players. And Taiwan is more "China" than Tibet used to be. Which did not prevent them from annexion. And Taiwan is as well just before their own doorsteps. They will invade it and the US can and will do nothing to prevent it. And if they would try, it would hit them hard. I believe they would not even try seriously. Maybe they would express their greatest regret and this would be it. The whole "China masterplan" is a battle of ideologies much more than any other conflict there is today, Maybe with the exeption of the tensions between the Muslim and Western world. It is a "tradition" reaching many years back. Think Dschingis Khan.

The fermi paradox is to my understanding even supporting the idea of an origin of the named phenomena from our own planet (but in the very distant future). That is the whole "beauty" of this theory for it avoids influence of development cycles, distances in space etc. It is actually based on our own deveIopment cycle. I actually had this strange idea by myself until I learned that I was not alone. But it is nothing more than one possible explanation although I do not know a better one. Extraterrestrials ? Your fermi paradox comes into play. Another nation testing advanced weaponry ? Very much unlikely. And then there are these claims of abduction etc., some of which seem to be plausible and would very well compliment the idea. But let me get this straight - I dont have the slightest idea what the truth is and I am by far no UFO conspiracist.

Depends on where you are located. If near Pattaya then I would suggest you look first on the ground floor of Central Festival (TOPS). They have a huge selection of different beer brands. I have seen Leffe on display somewhere but do not recall exactly where and if it was blonde or brune. But Central is a good guess. Good luck.

Some time ago there were shops in Japan offering you to give 100 Gyoza (Japanese (actually Chinese)) dumplings for free if you could eat them all. Otherwise you would have to pay for the number you could eat. I do not remember a time limit and neither what would have happened if you could devour more than 100 ????

Measuring height above sea level / ground with accuracy
moogradod replied to moogradod's topic in General Topics
Thank you. Indeed this is a crucial comment. I guess my measurement idea dissolves more and more. -
Then better not drive at night if you can manage that. I do not think that color blindness has something to do with that. I am sort of "half-color-blind" (difficult to tell someboy else how this manifests) myself but pass the color blindness test at the DLT easily (only a fully blown Ishihara test would be a problem). And I have no problems at night whatsoever.

Soon my next renewal is due. I am applying again mainly because the plastic card can serve as an easy identification without the constant need of a passport - not as a permission to drive. As you say: My self assessment tells me to refrain from driving if possible exept for an emergency although I might pass all of the tests (last time here in Pattaya: Color and reaction only, easy to pass)

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone - without exeption - who has posted here in response. You all made my day. It is increasingly often that when asking for help here on the forum you get some rather disturbing comments instead of answers with a compassionate attitude - or even no answer at all. This was not the case here. Thank you all again and I wish everybody a nice evening.
