This article neatly avoids to make it clear that this happened in Chiang Mai.
Headline:
Dentistry student held for shooting at tourists
Prapaporn Kreu-ngew
The Nation on Sunday
CHIANG MAI: -- Police arrested a sixth-year dentistry student for shooting at and injuring three tourists in a heated argument early yesterday.
Headline says 'Chiang Mai' in bold font.
Further: "........Ban Din Restaurant on Soi Nimmanhemin 13.........". A very well known soi, 99% of Chiang Mai folks, local and foreign residents, would instantly understand it's Chiang Mai.

I believe the original post (since updated) only mentioned Tambon Suthep & Nimmanhemin. While CM residents would realise this happened in CM, the general population of TV readers might not have.

That sounds like an STD
"BALI BELLY" is a common name for the 'trots" in Australia. Some years ago, tourists were very lucky to get back to Oz without experiencing this souvenir of Bali; nowadays they are much stricter, and all ice is supposed to be made from boiled water, as they commonly believed that freezing the bugs killed them.
The "deli belly" referred to comes from India, and the city of Delhi in particular, so the spelling more accurately should be "Delhi belly." http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=delhi%20bellythere is something less crude in Thailand. They call it Bangkok belly.
"Bangkok belly" sounds good, and there must be a lot of befitting terms associated with other cities or places in Thailand. The "Chiang Mai ....." doesn't seem to work, but Pattaya, Hat Yai, Krabi, and Khorat are possibilities. Phichit and Trat are too easy. Whadaya say?
Washing hands with soap and water before eating seems to not be taught at schools or by parents, and I often have to point people towards the hand basin to clean up, before they start shovelling food with their fingers .
Where I came from in the states they had beaver fever.

I was being sarcastic.put it on some ice.
To me, ice in beer completely ruins it anyway. If one has to do it, might as well dilute cheap local brew instead of the imported stuff.
I got that. I just wanted an excuse to rant about putting ice in beer, because I don't understand how anyone who likes the taste of beer can do it.
Ice improves some local beers - takes the edge off their "taste"

Get cobras in my garden. Come in from the rice fields. Dogs kill 'em. Only saw them kill one once - cobra rearing up, hood spread, dogs attacking from all sides. Usually they just leave them dead, outside on the lawn.
What kind of dogs do you have?
Big ones. GSD & GSD mix. Our oldest bitch (more mix) is the best. Grabs them by the tail & gives them a flick. She got spat in the face by a spitting cobra once. Gave it a good rinse, she recovered after a day or two.

We just did this trip and it was as described here. The story that you don't need a Laos visa if you stay less than 14 days is false. You need to purchase a Visa for Laos no matter what. I was told that it was not required and did not have the US $ 30 and paid the 1500 baht each...
Also, we made a taxi deal from Vientiane to airport Udon Tani , it was very cenvenient and we considered it worth every penny. We ended paying 2,000 baht door_to_door, Vientiane hotel- Udon Thani airport. Customs was a breeze and we didn't have to deal with the friendship bridge bus.
Sounds like a good plan for when I next to a visa run. The GF and I drove from CM to the Friendship bridge in her Hilux. An interesting trip but not one Id like to do again soon. Too long on the road as we went nearly all the way to BKK and didnt take the 'shortcuts' across country.
And yes always have some US$ on hand....or it will cost you.
The drive west from NK along the Mekong River to Chiang Khan is great. Then cut across from Loei through Dan Sai towards hwy 11 north of Phitsanalok. Great drive.

so if you don't live in the area why are you contributing useless comments
So they don't block the view of any residences (including single or 2 storey homes) that were there before these high rises were built? Find that hard to believe. Don't live in the area so wouldn't know for sure.
another rather bizzare, and chang fuelled post, obviously not a clue what he is gibbering about, and not checked location,h/s4,and furama, are stand alone propertys,ie dont block any ones view.well maybe the ground floor fully encosed barbacue,at the back,<>Surely folk with condos in high-rises can't expect their view to last forever. Whose view did their high-rise block?
btw my comment was more of a general comment regarding condos.
Why was my original comment useless? I said that people living in high rises can't complain when another high rise blocks their view.
btw have you found your cheap salt & butter yet? If you buy salted butter you'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

I haven't examined the warranty or manual, but part of Ford's marketing was the ability of the New Ranger to ford (pardon the pun) 80cm deep water. Sounds like a possible fault with Spoonman's truck. Hopefully he'll let us know if his truck is covered by warranty. If yours is the 2.2 the 3.2 front coil springs will give your front end a slight lift due to the weight difference.
Waiting for trusted member and thread contributor Spoonman to update us on why his fairly new Ranger's engine blew up and died after driving through a 12" deep puddle last week.
Once I know more I'll definitely advise, very disapointing that a vehicle with a claimed wadding depth of 800mm (one reason I purchased it as my soi floods numerous times every wet season) can suffer an engine failure after such shallow water, even worse is the fact mine sits about 80mm higher than a standard vehicle due to my wheels (which I removed before taking the vehicle to the dealer).
Initially they claimed I drove through water too deep for it but that claim soon disappeared when they looked at the air filter assembly and noticed there is dust in the bottom of it.
They have 2 other Rangers there with the same problem.
I guess all Ranger owners need to to a "flood test" while under warranty.
And I wonder why Ford would honor the warranty? They do not warranty the motor against water damages, unless I am mistaken. You should read carefully the manual or the warranty and check that point.

A guy I know picked up his Wildtrak 3.2 from his Ford dealer in Bankgok last weekend. He changed the wheels & tyres and also had an ARB suspension system fitted on the same day.
I have inherited his stock 18" wheels & tyres and I intend to replace my Ford 17" with these. He also gave me his coil springs, shocks etc that were removed from his 3.2 but I am not sure if I really need or not? Apart from them being more or less brand new, do you think there is any benefit for me to change out the whole lot at same time as doing the wheels?

How dies the government (or whoever) pay for that?
Local taxes? An alien concept here in Thailand

I must admit that today I saw three Chinese tourists walking side by side walking down a fairly main street forcing all the cars going in their direction to go around them. The problem was when a bunch of cars came from the opposite direction they continued on their merry way and seemed oblivious to a bunch of cars stuck behind them.
Just recetly I saw 3-5 farang girls (country of origin unknown) walking abreast and hogging both the sidewalk and road, they were oblivious to the needs of motorists and other pedestrians! Those evil, Farangs!
Must have been a wide road

Sorry, but I got an entirely different visual picture of what this topic was about. Somehow it didn't have anything related to chickens.
I read the thread title and came into post that birds love the donk........... it's all about the inches !!!
That should be good for the floods

Heheh I have to laugh because the OP is so true
& I see this often. But also I would like to know how to say
"excuse me" in Chinese will have to look it up
Because so often when walking I find myself behind a pack of Chinese tourist blocking
the way into somewhere & I just cannot seem to get their attention.
Of course I try Kor Tort & excuse me but no reaction.
Then again they are usually chattering away with each other & they sure speak loudly.
Makes me smile wondering if they also have a lot of Wat loud speakers where they live.
Just barge straight through them...that's what they are used to.
Indeed, they wouldn't give this a thought or be offended....you could even let an oyster go on your way through to show that you understand the culture.
Would it be ok to let it land on their toes?

As for spitting, the Chinese believe it is unhealthy to have gunk in your lungs, so they cough it up and spit it out. They laugh at us for spitting the gunk into a hankie or tissue then putting it back into our pockets. Many Chinese are poor, so they do not buy tissues, or if they have money, they are not in the habit of using tissues or putting anything in rubbish bins.
I believe emptying the bowels daily is good for one's health. Don't want to get constipated. I would considered doing so in the street or middle of supermarket a trifle impolite

Where's "here"? The reservoirs I visit around Chiang Mai are very low at the moment. Quite a dry "wetseason" so far. River Kuang east of the Ping, almost dry.....
