Australian Arrested at Bangkok Airport Over Pattaya Murder

Police have arrested a 46-year-old Australian man at Suvarnabhumi Airport after he attempted to flee Thailand, in connection with the disappearance and murder of a 17-year-old Thai girl whose body was found on 27 June 2026, inside a suitcase abandoned beside railway tracks in Pattaya.

The suspect, identified publicly by Thai police as Mr. Simon Peter Carman, was detained while attempting to buy a ticket to return to Australia. He has denied any involvement in the killing and maintains he is innocent despite what police describe as strong CCTV evidence. He currently faces a charge of abducting a minor under the age of 18 for indecent purposes.

The arrest followed a joint investigation by Pattaya City Police and Nong Prue Police, who traced the suspect’s movements using CCTV footage collected along his suspected escape route.

According to investigators, the victim, Miss T, 17, from Kalasin province, disappeared after entering a condominium on Jomtien Second Road with Carman at 3.34am on June 25. CCTV footage showed the pair holding hands as they entered the building and went to Room 20 on the 15th floor. Police say the teenager was never seen leaving the condominium alive.

Further CCTV footage recorded at around 9.34pm the same day allegedly showed Carman dragging a large black suitcase from the building. He loaded it onto a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle bearing Prachuap Khiri Khan registration. Police later used CCTV tracking him riding along Sukhumvit Road towards Soi Chaiyapruk 2 and then onto a road running parallel to the railway tracks.

Investigators said the suspect disappeared from CCTV coverage for more than nine minutes before returning to the condominium on the same motorcycle without the suitcase. Police believe the victim’s body was disposed of during that period.

A body concealed inside a black suitcase was later discovered beside railway tracks behind Pattaya Floating Market in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri. Police from Pattaya and Nong Prue coordinated efforts under senior officers, analysing CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and locate the suspect.

Officers tracked Carman to Suvarnabhumi Airport, where he was arrested before boarding a flight. Authorities are continuing to question him while forensic specialists gather additional evidence to support the case. The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to examine forensic evidence and complete the case file for legal proceedings.

I've made a few posts on that issue with both +/- notices.

But, compensation from whom?

That's up to the courts.

It's a known fact that Aussies are the wealthiest people on the planet, surely, after his apology some compensation is applicable

If she came after him with a knife (as someone stated above), that could be his blood. In fact, his case would be improved immensely if it was his blood, and if he had a stab wound or 2.

He didn't have any stab wounds.

From the update posted by Georgealbert

Daily News reported that the Pattaya Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant, before the body was found, charging Mr Carman with abducting a minor under the age of 18 from the custody of her parents or guardian for indecent purposes.

It sure sounds like she was underage.

In isolation, she wasn't underage for sexual consent which is what I was referencing in relation to posts that made the same reference.

I hope he gets the death sentence in Thailand and a massive fine for the girls family back home where she most likely supported them

He will not get the death sentence but, even if he did, it would not be carried out and fines imposed for crimes are not paid to the victims families.

No,

Actually, it isn't.

There are conflicting reports from different news streams, as I have pointed out in an earlier post.

None of them are my opinions, I don't have an opinion, apart from taking a life for such a ridiculously small amount is crazy,

The crime was committed in Thailand. He will be tried, convicted (evidence looks overwhelming) and punished in Thailand. ABC Australia is showing his face.

Where the differences come from

The most detailed version appears in the Thai-language report by Thairath. It states that after arriving at the condominium:

  • the girl received a telephone call;

  • she told the suspect she could not stay because she was menstruating;

  • she asked to leave;

  • she requested 500 baht as compensation for her time;

  • while he was reaching for the money, she allegedly asked for more than 500 baht;

  • the argument then escalated.

The English-language Thairath article is shorter. It mentions the phone call, wanting to leave, requesting 500 baht, and later demanding more money, but omits the reference to menstruation.

The Khaosod English report is even more condensed. It says:

  • she received a phone call;

  • she wanted to leave;

  • she requested 500 baht;

  • she then demanded more money;

  • an argument followed.

It also omits any mention of menstruation.

Does this mean the reports contradict each other?

Not necessarily.

At present, the available reports suggest that the menstruation statement and the request for more money are not mutually exclusive. The fuller version is:

  1. She received a phone call.

  2. She said she wanted to leave.

  3. She said she was menstruating.

  4. She asked for 500 baht for her time.

  5. She then allegedly requested a higher amount.

  6. An argument followed.

The shorter English reports appear to have condensed the suspect's statement, leaving out the menstruation detail rather than contradicting it.

One important point

Every one of these details comes from the suspect's account during police questioning, not from an independent witness or police finding. Investigators have confirmed CCTV evidence placing the suspect with the victim and transporting the suitcase, but the sequence inside the condominium, including the phone call, menstruation, request for money, alleged knife, and self-defence claim, has not been independently verified in the public reporting so far.

No, she wasn't - if you're referring to the age for sexual consent.

The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, which disallows any sexual contact with prostitutes under the age of 18, is widely interpreted by some local authorities to cover sexual acts classed as "obscenity for personal gratification". The Penal Code Amendment Act of 1997 (Section 283 bis) implies this to be within the context of sexual trafficking.

That wouldn't happen at the Nana hotel in Bangkok because near the lift doors a security guard has a set up and takes the I.D. card of all visiting females that are with a guest and when she returns the guard rings the room and asks if everything o.k. If ir is she gets her I.D. back and goes on her way.

Doesn't happen all the time. In fact I have never been called after a guest has left my room at Nana Hotel. I have at a hotel in Soi7/1 but not on every occassion.

I wonder if the autopsy will show any menstruation, and the phone records show a call.

Usually, when a call comes in, it's, "I have to go, my sister have motorbike accident, and by the way, it's still the long time price we agreed upon."

At such a young age, she's no doubt been told such scams work on foreigners. Of course, no justification for murder, but things can get out of hand, very quickly.
