Bangkok police pursue St. Gabriel's firearm threat case

Bangkok police have ordered legal action against a group of St. Gabriel's College students accused of assaulting a fellow pupil and threatening him with a firearm.

The case was reported on 8 August, after footage of the alleged confrontation circulated on social media. Police said the students involved will be brought before the Juvenile and Family Court.

Police order evidence gathering

Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen Siam Boonsom assigned Pol. Maj. Gen Worasak Phisitbanakorn, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1, to oversee the case.

Worasak instructed investigators at Samsen Police Station to collect evidence and pursue charges of jointly assaulting another person.

According to reports, the incident took place on the evening of 21 July and involved students from the same school. The two sides were said to have had an existing dispute and a history of arguments.

The parents of the alleged victim later filed a complaint at Samsen Police Station and asked police to take action against those involved.

Juvenile procedures now under way

On 8 August, investigators called in both sides and their parents to give statements and proceed under juvenile justice procedures.

A multidisciplinary team is also involved, as required in cases concerning minors. Police have not publicly set out further details of the alleged firearm or the identities of the pupils.

St. Gabriel's College, a well-known school in Bangkok's Samsen area, has issued a statement saying it will tighten security and introduce stronger safety measures for students.
