British Man Assaults Municipal Officers in Chiang Mai

People close to the man reportedly believed he was experiencing a mental health episode. They told authorities that he appeared to be hearing voices and had a long-standing dislike of people in uniform.

They're not sending their best, are they?

Where have we heard that before?

I am curious what were the underlying causes for such an action by a foreigner. I am not trying to justify his action. Far from it. No one should attack any Government official, more so the foreigners who are the guests in that country.

A man in his 30s with multiple incidents over what must be a lengthy amount of time. How is he remaining in Thailand to wreak this havoc. Authorities need to start releasing the type visas these people are using.

The pattern is becoming overwhelming. Lots of single young white Euros are getting easy long term access to this country and going on sprees of violence and intimidation. Ought to see if there is any relation to the DTV and this upsurge of criminal behavior.

Well this one isn't. I've lived nearly 20 years near Pattaya, married for most of them to a Thai woman and am 82 yoa. I'm English and have never punched a Thai in the face my entire life. Nor have I ever been jailed for causing trouble either in the UK or in a foreign country. I do have tattoos though which I obtained during my career in the army, I suppose that makes me a wrong 'un in the eyes of some on here - :Aaaagh! A Brit with tattoos".

Again, assuming that he is a tourist, Thai authorities may want to deport him but in his current state he shouldn't be deemed fit to fly. Imagine someone going off like that inside an aircraft cabin while only half way to the destination. I wouldn't want to be on that flight!

I suppose he would be medicated or handcuffed on plane. I saw this happen on a Lufthansa flight . Three flight personnel came and handcuffed the man to the seat. Certainly not very comfortable but for safety reasons right.

I suggest that should not happen as I believe from what I have read International tourists generate around 1.7 trillion baht annually for Thailand, which is about 9% to 13% of the country's total GDP.

Also if they restricted tourists, such as me back in 2013 I would not have met my now Thai wife who now lives in Australia with me and sends money back home to support her family. In short there would be all sorts of serious economic repercussions if you banned tourists.
