A white electric Porsche car rolled backwards into a canal in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan, on 5 September after it was left on a sloping frontage outside an automotive parts shop.
The vehicle crossed the road before plunging into the Suvarnabhumi water-supply canal, which is almost five metres deep. No one was injured, and CCTV footage recorded the car disappearing into the water.
The car had an auction personal registration plate. Its owner had parked outside her shop on Khlong Send Nam Suvarnabhumi Road in Bang Pla, Bang Phli, then got out of the vehicle only seconds before it began to roll.
Recovery takes more than two hours
The owner contacted traffic police from Bang Phli Police Station and Bang Phli rescue workers for help recovering the vehicle.
Officials brought in a large crane and spent more than two hours lifting the car from the canal. One lane was temporarily closed during the operation, causing traffic queues for several kilometres after the recovery work began.
Driver had not secured the car
The car owner's son said his mother had arrived at the shop but had not turned off the vehicle, selected Park or applied the parking brake, when she got out.

Less than a minute later, the car rolled across the road and into the canal. He said drivers travelling along the road saw the vehicle and managed to brake in time, avoiding a collision with other cars.
The family apologised to people using the shop and said the case should serve as a warning for motorists to check that a vehicle is secure before getting out.
The car was a relatively new imported electric vehicle, ordered less than two years ago. It was covered by voluntary insurance.
