Foreign Tourist Flees After Jomtien Shop Clash

A foreign tourist fled after a confrontation with convenience store staff and bystanders outside a 7/11 store on Jomtien Beach Road, following allegations that he stole drinks from the store.

Video clips shared widely on social media showed a chaotic scene outside the convenience store. The footage, posted alongside claims that the foreign man had “stolen goods and refused to pay”, captured the tourist arguing with staff before attempting to leave the area on a motorcycle.

According to reports, the man had arrived at the shop with his girlfriend before staff accused the pair of stealing two bottles of energy drink. Employees reportedly stopped them before they left the store and attempted to discuss payment of a store fine, but the tourists allegedly refused and tried to walk away.

The dispute escalated in the car park outside the shop when a man wearing a black shirt and other Thai bystanders joined staff in attempting to stop the tourist from leaving. Video footage showed pushing, pulling and physical scuffling as the tourist tried to ride away on his motorcycle.

During the struggle, the tourist’s bag was reportedly torn and damaged. The man and his girlfriend then took advantage of the confusion to run from the scene, leaving behind the motorcycle and a pair of shoes outside the store.

Journalists later visited the convenience store, but staff declined requests for interviews or permission to film inside the premises. No additional official statement was issued by the business.

The incident has triggered widespread criticism online, with social media users questioning why members of the public tried to physically restrained the suspect instead of contacting police to handle the matter through legal procedures. Concerns were also raised about the level of force used during the confrontation in a public area.

Police at Pattaya City Police Station are reviewing video footage and witness accounts as part of an investigation into the incident. Authorities said no complaint had yet been filed by the foreign tourists involved.

Investigators are expected to determine whether any offences were committed by either side during the confrontation and whether further legal action will follow.

On the video he says to the innocent bystander "I paid the money" - CCTV should show who's lying or telling the truth

He isnt acting like a thief .

Could be that he walked into the shop with the drinks ?

Whatever the ins and outs of this story, if I was unjustly accused of stealing in a shop, and couldn't settle things with the staff (like, prove I hadn't) then I would be the one calling the police. Not running away and fighting.

He's English. He gets away with shoplifting back home because the likes of @johng and the "not my business" and "no intervention" zealots have quietly allowed themselves to be walked over.

This guy and his dippy tart just had their Thai FAFO moment.

"We don't know if he stole anything"

If 'we' read the OP, then yes 'we' do.

"The Thai reads something like buy this that and something else then get this 'Free' foreigner justs sees 'Free'. ?"

That's just a ridiculous suggestion.

Agree....really have to go way down the rabbit hole to come up with excuse like that that he sees the word free and "thinks" oh this 7 11 is giving away free stuff....what kind of idiot would ever come up with that.

Probably anyone that's recently lived in the west where stealing under £200 from a shop is no longer considered a crime.

What if his claims that he paid for it already turn out to be true ?

Quite an "outline" there going on in his shorts.

I have no strong opinion about what happened based on the news report.

But one of them was running away WITHOUT shoes?

Ouch.

Also if they were carrying merch and were stopped BEFORE leaving the store is a fine really fair? Isn't paying enough as I'm not sure it's stealing yet if you're still in the store.

If such fines are paid, does the staff usually pocket it as special bonus?

I wouldn't blame them. Those jobs pay for sheit.

And 7-eleven staff falsely accuse customers of shoplifting routinely.

Of course, you would know this because you hang out in Sevens all day long to ascertain how often people are caught for shoplifting. The thugs picking a fight outside had no business attacking anyone for alleged misdeeds. They just felt like beating up a Farang... and you think he deserved a beating? There were no Seven staff outside accusing anyone, and it's not their place to physically detain anyone.

British again. #BenidormBrit

Good grief, there is an argument to put them on the same list as Indians. The types coming to Thailand are pure trash.

We have not seen the full clip, was he giving it large in the shop before he left?

How on earth can you travel half way cross the world, then be accussed of stealing in a 7/11 - that's just not without basis that the staff believed he may have stolen something, they are usually very timid. Why not let them check your bags, or show your receipt. You don't give it the large and walk out.

His girlfriends sheepish reaction leads to me believe he may well have made an error in his ways.

He is extremely lucky there wasn't more local Thai's around, and the customary kick to the heads. Thai's are fatigued with trash tourists.

Something wrong in the UK at the moment.

He and his girlfriend were engaged in theft from a 7-Eleven, got stroppy when confronted and asked to pay for the items and started lashing out at people who were trying to assist the shop staff in restraining the thieves. He was not just "set upon by three thugs".

From reading the reports, this is what the locals say happened.

7-11 staff members tend to be pretty soft going, but honour is a big thing in Thailand, so if they feel you cheat them they will stand their ground. It’s very rare for this to happen, so I am going to assume they had some validity to their questioning.

The tourist is clearly vile which adds weight to the whole notion he is not a good egg.

He got very lucky to escape with very little damage.

Worst trade deal in Pattaya history: walked in for a 15-baht energy drink, walked out with no bike, no bag, and no shoes.

In keeping with the current trend in the US these days, known as the Art of the Deal.

Guys driving around shirtless like that are best avoided.

Another shirtless yobbo manc, Jomtien is the pits when it comes to these scuddy dirty northerners from ex mill towns. No life at home, come here on education or DTV and cause problems with their angst and hate... dirty filth

Any innocent person would stay and put their argument forward, all 7/11s have cctv. Typical victim playing and basically a thief. I know you should never read a book by its cover but sometimes the cover is the book. You can guarantee this guy has convictions at home for theft. Unfortunately the guys been dealt a bad hand at home with drugs, unemployment and various other factors but that's where he should leave it...too many of his ilk staying in Jomtien. Maybe a criminal check should required for all visas.

He left without sorting out the problem of the supposed theft. An innocent guy does not shout at staff and walk away. A guilty person does!!! This could have been easily sorted in store, ask to see cctv, call police but no, victim playing thief decides to run...he's as guilty as they come.

I suspect he had employed the same tactic where he comes from, and been permitted to wander off with free goods. Not here mate!

Let's wait and see..it won't be the first time that a simple misunderstanding lead to violence like this.

Even if he

did steal 2 energy drink's there is no excuse for the violence.
