Foreign Woman Caught Stealing Souvenir in Phuket Shop

A foreign tourist was caught on CCTV stealing a souvenir in a shop in Phuket's Thalang district on May 17. The shop's security footage was shared on social media to alert local business owners and aid in identifying the suspect. The theft occurred around 3:45 pm and involved a woman seen wearing a white shirt, pink skirt, and braided pigtails.

Footage shows the woman initially picking up a model Thai-style house before discreetly placing a decorative flower basket into her plastic bag. She proceeded to pay for the house model while claiming she had settled payment for the flower basket with another staff member. When shop staff investigated, they found no payment had been made for the second item.

The shop owner has not disclosed the woman's nationality or the value of the items involved. It is also unclear if law enforcement was notified. The incident has raised awareness among local shopkeepers about potential thefts.

Based only on the information in the article, if the woman truly hadn’t paid for the decorative flower basket found in her bag, then it’s hard not to think the item was taken without permission.

This article should remind all foreigners in Thailand that even minor theft allegations can have consequences far more lasting than their holiday memories.

What a piece of scum- so when she looks at her souvenir at home she will be happy - knowing she stole it from a hard working person who has an income that is no doubt a small fraction of the thiefs

In countries like the UK theft including shoplifting are sadly common

place. The police are reluctant to prosecute. A sad example of modern decline in a large number of people.

I am glad Thailand take such crimes Seriously.

Theft is a serious offence really because it undermines society in a really toxic way. The right to property and the protection of it is and has been a foundational right in any society for a very long time, and without it nothing really works properly as it negates a main reason for the existence of society, which is working together to provide a safe and prosperous habitat.

What's the point of playing the game, working hard, saving for you and your family's future, doing the right thing, paying taxes, being part of society and striving for a better standard of living etc. etc. if some oxygen thief can just walk into your life and take things away with little to no consequences? Well, none at all. Why bother? That's how poisonous theft is.

Most countries still see it as a serious crime, and rightly so, as it strikes at the very heart of a society/community, and is one of the main reasons western cities/countries are in social decay because they stopped treating crimes like this as important and they have now become normalized and brazen.

That proves my theory that she is British and as she gets away with it at home so why not do it on holiday.

I often carry a backpack, so when I buy something I just pop it in the backpack so I don't need to carry it.

Last time I was back home, most retailers checked my backpack. Obviously because theft must be quite common.

I have not had that happen in Thailand.

Stealing is a criminal act.

To revoke the visa is an easy way to stop a lot of crimes (not only) in Thailand

Yeah, shoplifting of that kind has nothing to do with poverty or acquisition. It's a mental issue which is why sometimes very rich people are caught shoplifting.

It's always attracted 'some' scumbags. In my opinion always far too many as well.

Hm, ... It's the scumbags that make the headlines. The rest just enjoy their holiday in Thailand without making the newspapers.

It can become a habit not to pay what you can take without paying.
