German Influencer Hospitalized After Krabi Monkey Attack

Julia Willecke, a German influencer, experienced a monkey attack in Krabi, Thailand, resulting in a hospital visit. On a solo trek along a trail known for monkey activity, Willecke was approached and bitten by the animals. Though initially unconcerned, she sought medical attention when her wound showed worrying signs, leading to a vaccination and antibiotics.

Willecke, known for her travel content on Instagram with over four million followers, recounted the incident on her podcast, Die Nervigen, aired on January 30. While walking on the beach trail, a small monkey climbed onto her, and moments later, four larger monkeys joined, escalating the situation. She described how one monkey climbed to her shoulder and another clamped onto her leg, causing the injury.

Despite the alarming bite, Willecke stated that she received prompt treatment at a hospital, where she was given a vaccination and discharged within half an hour. She returned home with antibiotics to prevent infection. There were no lasting injuries from the encounter, and the influencer resumed her activities soon after.

Looking forward, Willecke’s incident highlights the potential dangers tourists face when interacting with wildlife, emphasizing the need for caution. The local authorities might consider further awareness campaigns to inform visitors about the risks posed by animals in tourist areas, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Julia Willecke was bitten by monkeys during a solo walk in Krabi.

  • She received hospital treatment and was discharged after about 30 minutes.

  • The incident underscores the importance of caution around wildlife.

More like.....While searching for selfie opportunities on a beach trail, the influencer baited a small monkey into climbing onto her, and moments later, four larger monkeys joined in, escalating the exciting selfie possibilities. Please let me be boring. There is no such thing as an influencer. Whatever she was doing would not make anyone else do anything or buy anything. It is an excuse for not getting a job.

You know this for a fact? Those macaques are aggressive little b’stards and will attack and bite without provocation. My kid was bitten and I’ve seen them jump on people (in towns!) unprovoked. They are a pest in Lopburi and Songkhla especially, coming into town and climbing over schools, getting into houses etc. About time the Thai gov culled the things.

Even though you use the Internet and write comments, you obviously still live in the Middle Ages!

This only makes sense when it was the rabies vaccine. 5 rounds to be expected if she didn't have it previously. I wonder why this (and the costs) aren't mentioned.

So you can risk interacting with the monkeys but should know the possible consequences. I did it for years and can confirm that there was only one incident when I pulled back a bag that a monkey had already grabbed, and it attacked. Otherwise they are like dogs and know exactly how not to penetrate your skin while biting teasingly. They might even start grooming you, looking for lice. So they can be gentle, too.

Stupid C. It takes 3-7 days for symptoms to appear.

Herpes B virus is transmitted by monkey bites.

Mortality is 80%.

She should have brought more bananas - they got pissed when she ran out.

Usually I stop reading at the mention of an influencer but I wanted to find out if the monkey was OK. 😝😂😝

Anytime I go anywhere where there are monkeys present I carry a 1.5m long bamboo staff, and simply tapping it on a rock or a piece of wood scares the monkeys to the point where they won't come anywhere near you. Under no circumstances do you ever let a wild monkey come anywhere within the vicinity of your body.

Yeah. Plenty of macaques round where I live. They are generally okay if you don't stare at them or get food out, and make just enough noise so they know you are there. I've been hissed at a few times but never any escalation. It's highly likely that the German woman brought this on herself. Hope she learns from her mistakes.

What was she trying to influence? The way to deal with wildlife?

Personally, I avoid monkeys ever since having to fight them off in Lopburi 30 years ago. Never plan to go back.

You're wrong old man. That woman probably makes more in a year than you did in a decade. They have massive influence over their followers or they wouldn't make money. Companies throw tens of thousands of dollars at these people for a minute slot on a video or product endorsement. I agree that it's bizarre, but that's the world we live in.

I hope this man can receive counselling for PTSD

Those that think it's a joke should be ashamed of themselves

I too have been a victim and I'm still recovering!!!!!

Since the incident my work colleagues have noticed me with a "hot and cold" personality, they have told me one day im ok and the next grumpy

For those who don't know I was slapped repeatedly on the back of the head in Lopburi in March 2025

You should go see her in the hospital and provide some counseling on how you are overcoming your PTSD from your monkey attack.

You will have upset the dinosaurs now, you will be bombarded with negative thumbs down, but never mind, just laugh as I do. 😄

Because they can press the keys on a keyboard and write words they think they know everything on how the whole networking/social-media works these days.

I do not follow influences etc but I know they are there for a reason, it is a business and it works.

On March 2026 go through the slapping scenario again, it might make you normal again. 😃

That is like asking who in their right mind would be drug users as in illegal drugs, there is a huge market for both the drugs market and influencers.

Oh and football supporters, who in their right mind would waste their time on that. 😃

No idea! I've never been to a football match in my life. At school, football was banned as being a game for 'sissies'. We all played rugby!
