Krabi woman challenges foreign man over alleged Muslim insult

A Thai woman confronted a foreign man at a Makro supermarket in Krabi after accusing him of jumping the checkout queue and making an insulting comment about Muslims.

Footage shared by the woman on Facebook on September 7 shows her demanding an explanation and an apology after she said the man told her, "Muslim is number 2."

Checkout confrontation

The woman said she had been waiting at the supermarket's fast-track checkout when the man pushed his shopping cart in front of her.

In her Facebook caption, she said her hands and voice were shaking with anger, adding that she had never expected to encounter such an incident herself.

During the filmed confrontation, she told the man that people of every race, nationality and religion were human. The man tried to shield his face from the camera with a scarf and replied that he was only shopping.

At the end of the video, he apologised, saying, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you."

Woman alleges attempt to take her phone

The woman later said that the man had walked towards her and allegedly tried to grab her phone to stop her filming.

She also claimed he handed her a 10-baht coin before leaving, an action she considered a further insult.

Although the exchange was heated, the woman thanked Makro staff for assisting her. She also apologised to customers not involved in the dispute whose faces appeared in the video.

Online supporters raise further claims

Friends and several Thai social-media users backed the woman in comments under her post.

One friend said she had previously encountered the same foreign man while travelling on the road. She alleged that he ran a red light while riding a motorcycle, then travelled through a narrow gap between two trucks.

The friend also alleged that the man regularly walked along the road while talking to himself.

His English is attrocious.

Therefore, it might really be difficult to know anything he is saying.

That is not a scarf.

That is a burqa.

You know what happened here, don't you? I'll bet it was two people arriving at the checkout line at the same time and banging carts against each other. The woman is likely a nut job looking for an opportunity to strike out at white foreigners. And this guy was dumb enough to give her the opportunity.

Arrive same time so both No'1

"Manners maketh the man"

A gentleman would have shown courtesy and became No'2,

Well, this is a classic case of six or one and half a dozen of the other. Looks like the foreigner was a contemptuous scumbag in general, but this woman is the self-righteous type with faux outrage that has fragile ears and would like to go down the non-existent blasphemy laws route... complete drama queen really.

Arrest and fine both of them for being complete Richards.

Could not have put it better, .............................. except where does the 10baht come into play

Nobody worst than the Chinese for jumping que's, I only came across that living in Thailand, So I'm guessing that's where the Thais picked it up from,

It used to happen a lot in the 7/11's, Im not going to get into an argument over jumping a que, get on with it,
