A Thai foundation has agreed to provide legal support to the family of French national Kevin Dimino, who is being held by Immigration Police after an order for his deportation from Thailand was upheld.
The Land Watch Foundation said it had taken on the case after Dimino's Thai wife, identified as Khun Jin, approached it for help. The foundation's chairman, Panthep Puapongpan, announced the decision in a Facebook post on 29 September.
Appeal against removal was rejected
According to Panthep, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered Dimino's deportation on grounds that his behaviour was considered contrary to public order, good morals or the happiness of the public.
Dimino appealed against the order, but Anutin later rejected that appeal and confirmed that deportation should proceed under the original decision, Panthep said.
The case reportedly stems from a dispute in which the family said it had been bullied, threatened and harassed by members of the Israeli community in Thailand. Those claims were reported by the foundation.
Dimino is currently in Immigration Police custody, while his wife fears being separated from her husband, according to Panthep.
Foundation promises legal assistance
Panthep said the Land Watch Foundation had reviewed the details of the case and concluded that it should help Dimino and his wife fully with legal matters, so that further action could be considered through the appropriate channels.
He also said media figure Sondhi Limthongkul had joined the family for a photograph and offered them encouragement.
