Pattaya teen missing after planned meeting with foreigner

A 17-year-old woman has been reported missing in Pattaya after telling friends she was due to meet an older foreigner at Central Pattaya shopping mall to watch a movie.

Nong Tong disappeared at the weekend and has not been contacted by friends or relatives since, according to her sister, Pinanong Lansettha. Her family has reported her missing to police and launched an online appeal for information.

Ms Lansettha said the family did not know the identity or nationality of the man her sister planned to meet.

"We don't know who she was meeting or where he was from," she told the Daily Mail. "I think she met him online through an app."

Family and friends appeal for information

In a social-media post, Ms Lansettha asked people to help find her younger sister, saying she had been unable to contact her for three days.

"None of her close friends or family have been able to reach her or see her," she wrote. "I'm very worried about her. Please help keep an eye out for her."

Friends said her sudden disappearance was out of character. One said Nong Tong normally spoke with her every day but was no longer online.

Another local woman said she had seen the teenager with foreigners at the Stone House pub at around the time she vanished, recalling that their tables had been beside each other.

Ms Lansettha said her sister did not work in Pattaya's bars or on the street because of her age, but worked independently and had gone to meet an older foreigner before contact was lost.

Anyone with information is being urged by the family to contact them or police.

Disappearance follows Pattaya murder charge

The case comes weeks after another 17-year-old, Tunchanok Donhomla, was found dead in a suitcase beside railway tracks in Pattaya.

Australian truck driver Simon Carman, 46, has been charged over her death and is being held at Pattaya Remand Prison. He denies murdering Ms Donhomla, saying he acted in self-defence after she allegedly pulled a knife and demanded money.

Police allege Carman met Ms Donhomla on the street, took her to his condominium, strangled her and put her body in a holdall. CCTV reportedly showed him riding a scooter the following evening with a suitcase strapped to the back.

He was arrested at Bangkok airport carrying a Jetstar boarding pass. Police allege he was attempting to flee on a flight to Perth, while Carman said he was returning to Australia to collect a replacement bank card and intended to come back to Thailand within days to "sort it all out".

Like Ms Donhomla, Nong Tong had travelled to Pattaya from a rural province seeking work. In both cases, friends raised the alarm after the teenagers stopped answering calls and messages.

Pattaya's informal nightlife economy

Prostitution is illegal in Thailand but remains widely tolerated in Pattaya's nightlife areas, where many women meet foreign tourists for work. The two teenagers were said to have worked independently rather than through bars, where age checks can make employment difficult for under aged.

Whether abandoned or not, Thailand has a Universal Newborn Allowance, a monthly allowance of 600 baht

600 baht, are you kidding me, have you fathered any children in Thailand?

I've fathered 3 children, 600 baht buys you a few nappies

Good comment.

And I would add, if there was no welfare for the single mothers in the west, we would see just as many, if not more, girls working in the sex industry

Not really, as there isn't near the prostitution in the west as there is here, and jobs there you can make a lot more money. Parents in the west also aren't going to coerce their daughters to be prostitutes so they can get cash sent home like here also.

Thailand also has as much as 40% of children being raised by grandmas, whereas no other country comes even close, so it's about responsibility more than money.

There are always jobs and people to watch the children in both places. One gives you welfare , WIC and food stamps, while the other has family at home watching the children while you work, and there is always local work within a scooter drive in Thailand. Thailand doesn't enforce child support like they do in the west, which is abhorrent as that allows boys to have sex with as many naive girls as possible, creating babies, and then taking off.

Has anyone mentioned the many uneducated "freelancers" that don't work any sort of bar any more (if they ever did), that have upwards of half-a-dozen love lorn farang basement dwellers, each on the hook for 10k and up, live streaming or doing DIY videos on their brand new iPhones. They don't even have to "sleep" with anyone.

Simps ruin everything. We still had the internet in full swing when millennials were in their 20's. But this level of simping did not exist. Even the hottest girls had to earn their money.

Rubbish! Idiots were sending money from abroad, even when communication via Internet was in it's infancy.

Many times I was in the gym, being eyed up by girls on the phone to their sponsors, asking when the money will arrive. There was absolutely no love, loyalty nor affection.

They often just had to give it up a few time over a few weeks in order to keep the money coming in for the rest of the year.

Real pensions are contributory, if they are not provided with an occupational pension there's nothing to stop them investing in their own pension their own pension. It's false to state that only government employees are provided with real pensions

We are talking about Thailand. Most Thais in the provinces live close to poverty level. Even all those with factory jobs live day by day on very modest incomes. There are no funds left to invest in an own pension.

Those idiots were at least banging them a few times a year. The simps I am talking about are paying sums of money to women and getting NOTHING in return. That level of simpering beta cuckery is what has changed

At least for those sponsor simps, the blowjobs they got felt like ecstasy

Ok. You had the position that Thailand does not offer social assistance. I listed the social support programs and plans available. Now you are not satisfied with the amounts provided. Although not adequate by western standards, which has its generations on the dole to demonstrate the hazard of making it easier to be a lay about than a worker, it is generous when considered from the perspective of the local culture.

yes, employees who worked for min. 15 years get a pension of about THB 3.000,-- per month. That's like no pension compared to us.

Yeah, but that is actually not the reality for the ones who plan a bit, and not use all the money to drink Lao Khao after work.

You have what you said already. That´s 3,000/month.

After that, there is a fund that pays out a one-time sum when the person is about 60 years old. That one cost about 500 baht per month and gives minimum 300.000baht (Min. 27 years monthly payments to qualify)

Beside that there are also funds available at Thai Smile insurance that cost around 700 baht per month and depending on how you chose to take it out gives about 7000 baht per month for 15 or 20 year. Not 100% percent sure about the time there.

So is your cultural blindness.

So, for you it´s acceptable to blame lack of responsibility on cultural differences. Ok, that was a new one! 😂

No, I have no cultural blindness. I know exactly how things work here and how people think. It´s just that I think it´s wrong, but you on the other hand, defend it with a blanket reply. That´s awesome!

It may not be right but look at your own country I guarantee it's happening there also.

Surely! I know it happens in all countries. Just that it´s a little bit too much here.

There's a difference between being employed in a bar as a bargirl (that her sister said she didn't/couldn't do) and a freelancer going into a bar to meet foreigners.

Yeah, in your view. The result is the same, right? Also, if she can´t work in a bar, then she actually can´t freelance in a bar either, as that according to the Thai law becomes the same problem for the bar owner.

Sadly her tattoos tell a story.

Yeah, they surely do. Sad, at the age of only 17. Without all that make-up and the tattoos, she would actually pass as a decent, good-looking teen. I can´t get why so many have to trash down.

The 600 baht newborn scheme is not yet universal,
still currently in trial/proposal/approval stage
and even that is literally just 2 days since trial approved
It is yet to be seen how this scheme will play out
or whether it will run out of funds before it can get going
and there will most likely be a catch somewhere if it does become universal
(anyone with a few brain cells could take an obvious guess at what conditions they would set for the 0-6 year olds to receive payments and probably be on the money)

"It is still in the proposal/approval stage and not yet implemented as a universal benefit. The current program continues with its income test." -Grok

My girlfriends two sons and their girlfriends are all working in Isaan, and they were all working in factories in Chon Buri earlier

They are the lucky ones. In my wife's local area of Khon Kaen, there are also factories, a cement plant, a Siemens operation, a municipal waterworks and electric sub-stations.. so these employment opportunities are there. But getting a job in these places takes connections (patronage). You can't just fill out an application and get hired. Doesn't work that way - at least not there - and I suspect most other areas of Issan are the same. That's why most stick to subsitence farming, do odd jobs like electric or house and car repairs as freelancers in their villages or others nearby. Others migrate to Bangkok - drive taxis, paint nails, work as waitresses or at a 7-ELEVEN. Others go to Bnagkok and Pattaya for sex work.

7-11's, Amazon, Lotus, Big-C, and others like that are always hiring as kids quit after getting bored with working. They got jobs at the 7-11's in her town and Amazon, along with KFC. Didn't have to wait too long. The large cities have more jobs, and competition, along with having to rent places to stay , which make up the difference instead of staying local. One of her sons just got hired by her Tesaban as a driver's helper. Kids don't want to be farmers too much these days. A few stay on the farm and take over, but they know how hard farm work is and rather work in an air conditioned place.

Perhaps she wanted to get out of her place and was sitting in the bar studying for her final school exams.

Because that's what the young motorbike racing street boys like. They don't care what some decrepit old holier-than-thou Western snakehead thinks. 🙂

Are you able to do your own verifications or are too lazy to check the government website? Grok is not a reliable source of information because it scrapes websites like facebook, which are not credible information sources.

The new plan that you refer to, is actually a change in the existing child care plan. The child support grant was introduced in 2015. The new plan removes some of the registration requirements to encourage enrollment. It also expanded the age group of children who qualified. In respect to the criteria, it was already in place and was working just fine for the past 10+ years.
