Russian tourists have been getting robbed while walking in the 'suburbs' for years. A lot of women. I have wondered if they don't want to pay for a sontaew or WIN taxi. Pattaya is safe enough apart from the traffic.

I doubt the thieves really care, it just seemed a lot of them were being victims, not necessarily targeted.

Fair point, that makes sense. So they are just targeting anyone who looks like a tourist from a distance, rather than profiling by nationality.

You do know that most robberies and violent attacks comes after a close encounter disturbance or by following and studying a person for an hour or two. You might think that they during that time can form an opinion of nationality. Or, what do you think, Watson? Elementary, right?

Yes, Watson understands that people can pick up clues after talking to someone. 😂 My question was how you identify someone as specifically Russian from a distance, when visually they could look like any other Western tourist. Seems you answered a question I didn’t actually ask. 😉

You seem to not understand that it might not be from a distance as they many times study their victim first. They might even have been talking to you first and then waiting for you to leave alone.

Yes, I understand the concept of studying a victim first. 😂 But you’re still avoiding my actual question, Watson. If they haven’t heard the person speak, seen their passport or otherwise established their nationality, what visual clue specifically tells them “Russian” rather than British, German, Australian, etc. from a distance ?

Studying someone tells you who looks vulnerable — it doesn’t magically reveal their nationality. 😉

No, not magically, but it seems there is no need of magic to match your knowledge with the ones that really know and can judge things out of many perspectives.

I’m not disputing that someone can study a potential victim and work out that they look vulnerable, or even pick up clues about where they’re from after an encounter.

My original question was specifically how they would know someone is Russian from a distance, before establishing their nationality.

You keep explaining how they can study someone, but that still doesn’t answer the question I actually asked. 😉

My question is completely relevant to the topic. The topic specifically says that Russian tourists have been getting robbed while walking in the suburbs. So asking how the perpetrators can identify someone as Russian from a distance, before establishing their nationality is directly relevant to that claim.

Another member already answered my question, and I acknowledged his answer. You’re the one who keeps dragging the discussion back to the particular case, even though I’ve repeatedly explained that my question was about the general claim.

So no, the question isn’t irrelevant — you simply keep answering a different question from the one I asked. 😉
