Sondhi rallies at Israeli Embassy over property fears

Sondhi Limthongkul led supporters of the "Taking Back Our Thailand" movement to the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok on September 10, calling for action over alleged foreign domination of Thai real estate and concerns about some Israeli visitors.

The gathering began at 9am outside Ocean Tower 2 on Sukhumvit 21 in Asoke, where the embassy is based. Pantep Puapongphan, Nititorn Lamlua and Phichit Chaimongkol joined Sondhi, along with network leaders and a large number of members of the public, including Sirinat Samut, known as Sai Samut.

The group said it wanted to submit a letter demanding a crackdown on foreign capital acquiring property in Thailand, including through Thai nominees. It said the aim was to protect Thai sovereignty, the interests of Thai people and domestic businesses.

Embassy meeting offer declined

At about 10.15am, Sondhi told the crowd that the Israeli Embassy had said no staff were working that day, but that the ambassador was prepared to receive him privately at a later date.

Sondhi said he declined because the visit was being made on behalf of Thai people across the country and should not become a private discussion.

He then read an open letter to the embassy in English and Thai. It called on the Thai government and Israeli Embassy to address the issues in practical terms rather than merely acknowledge the complaint through diplomatic procedure.

The letter raised allegations involving the behaviour of some Israeli tourists and residents in Thailand, including alleged lawbreaking, disrespect for local customs, fraud and unpaid service bills. It said such cases had repeatedly affected local communities and prompted calls for more serious regulation.

Visa policy among protesters' concerns

Sai Samut said he had returned from the United States at 4am that morning before attending the rally. He argued that Thai people needed to work together to "take our country back from the government", claiming government administration had harmed Thai people's dignity.

He identified visa-free entry as the starting point of the problem, alleging that some visitors entered Thailand as tourists before operating businesses, settling in the country and mistreating Thai people without government protection.

Sai compared the current atmosphere to the period before the fall of Ayutthaya, while saying he had no political colour and would oppose anyone, of any nationality, who broke laws or failed to respect others.

Four demands

The group is making four demands to the Israeli embassy and government:

 1. Maintain strict control over citizens by enforcing training measures and emphasizing to Israeli tourists the importance of respecting Thai laws and culture.

2. Do not protect offenders; cooperate with the Thai police and authorities in prosecuting Israeli citizens who commit crimes, without using diplomatic intervention.

3. Disclose land ownership and cooperate transparently in the investigation of land ownership and operations of the Chabad Center, as well as related organizations in Thailand.

4. Send a message to the Israeli government urging them to end their atrocities against civilians in conflict zones and to abide by international humanitarian law.

Further rallies planned

Sondhi said the government should be concerned if it continued to favour capital interests rather than managing the situation. He said he would next submit a complaint concerning "Chinese grey capital" and planned speaking events in Chon Buri, Chanthaburi and Khon Kaen.

He also said the movement could gather again after the Election Commission's expected September 14 decision on whether the Senate election collusion case should be sent to the Supreme Court's Election Cases Division.

Separately, national artist Aed Carabao, real name Yuenyong Opakul, said he had recorded a song titled "Where Do Jewish People Come From?" in support of the movement. He cited previous warnings he had posted about alleged Israeli takeovers in Pai, Mae Hong Son, and Koh Phangan, Surat Thani.

This debate is about Jews and Israel, well it is for me, you are just throwing garbage into the air, hoping some will stick, no substance, just the normal I am right and woe betide anyone who is against me, either try and debate the subject, or keep your hands off the keyboard.

What are ethno stares? sounds a bit queer to me.

I knew you couldn't answer that question.

Smoked you out Some lists include Thailand.

Since we're talking definitions.

According to my definition anyone that opposes the existence of the world's one tiny Jewish ethno saate and does not oppose the existence of all the other ethno states in the world is a racist Jew hater by basic definition.

Also it any group needed an ethnic state in their ancestral homeland after thousands of years of very severe persecution in the diaspora -- it is the Jewish people.

Yes that is Zionism at its core.

Zionism as a liberation movement for an oppressed people.

That doesn;'t mean supporting Israeli governments or policies. or excuse their faults.

Yeah, you got me on "ethno stares", that's why I queried the question, as you well know.

As I said in a previous post, this thread is about Thailand and Israel, if you want to debate other Ethnocratic States start another Topic.

Just to give you a few pointers I'll say this:

Ethnocracy is a political science term rather than a single global law, meaning its legality depends entirely on the domestic constitution of a specific country, though certain ethnocratic practices can violate international human rights standards.

Global human rights bodies state that laws discriminating against people based on race, descent, or ethnic origin violate international law.

There is no global court that outlaws a specific type of government structure. Instead, international organizations criticize or penalize specific discriminatory laws rather than declaring an entire regime "illegal."

Start a new topic if you want.

That was a deflection.

Even if you leave the ethno state part out of it what reason other than racist Jew hatred could there be to opposing the existence of Israel and no other country in the entire world?

So you say. You can't explai why Israel is the only country in the world that you want to deny its very existence. You won't even try because you understand deep down how damning that is.

I do not deny Israel's existence, my hostility to Israel is that they will not comply with UN resolution and their Apartheid of the Arab indigenous people who they have dominated for the past 80 odd years, they started out as terrorists at the start of this whole debacle and lately under their present government have made matters worse.

They lie, cheat, manipulate at will, and up until lately have got away with it all, now the World are seeing the truth of their actions and no amount of Hasbara from the likes of you and your ilk will change that.

Israel is a Pariah Apartheid State, if it wasn't for the support of numerous corrupt governments/politicians, including the USA, GB, and the like, who are balls deep in Israeli slush money in the form of AIPAC, Friends of Israel etc etc.

This is the usual Sondhi MO... whip up nationalist feelings from the brainwashed to deflect comment/scrutiny on the failings of the government and it's corruption/problems/misdeeds, convenient timing huh... blame the easy option that has no cost. Classic Thai politics slight-of-hand and the paid for rent-a-mob morons always buy it, grab their nationalist pitchforks and go to the alloted place to yell. Sondhi has done this so many times and is essentually just out of jail and a convicted criminal... but gets free reign because it serves BJT.

Where?

There is no mention of Jews, as it is a criticism of the State of Israel, I hope I have complied with the IHRA definition, that was my intention, so there is no antisemitism in that statement.

The clarification is in the whole piece, I did not mention Jews, Palestinians, or Muslims, because it is about the State of Israel only.
