Teenage Gunman Surrenders After Killing Man in Phra Pradaeng

A 16-year-old gunman surrendered to police in Samut Prakan after a shooting during Songkran celebrations left one man dead and another injured. The incident occurred on April 26, in Soi Suksawat 72, Phra Pradaeng district, killing 34-year-old Nopparat Chimwaree and injuring his wife, Sunanta Phansri. Nopparat succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, while Sunanta remains under medical care for a leg wound.

The shooter, identified as Suwat, turned himself in with his father early today. Suwat claimed self-defense, alleging provocation and aggression by the victims and their friends, after rude remarks and thrown objects. Suwat refused to apologize, asserting an apology wouldn't alter the outcome of events.

Following the shooting, another teenager, 15-year-old Kunlachate, also contacted the authorities. Kunlachate admitted his presence at the scene but denied participating in the shooting. He explained that the misunderstanding arose when Suwat misinterpreted a call from a friend as confrontational. He described how Suwat approached the victims, escalating the situation before gunfire erupted.

Despite Suwat's refusal to apologize, his father expressed remorse and plans to apologize to the victims' family personally at Nopparat's funeral. Suwat faces charges of intentional murder and illegal firearm possession, with further legal proceedings in progress.

Yet another hot-headed kid that thinks the slightest thing deserves such a lethal reaction because he's such a big man. The kid thinks he lost face but doesn't realise he actually had none to lose in the first place because he is little other than an oxygen thief with no money.

Poor parenting skills too and the moron refuses to even apologise for not just killing someone but alsoseriously injuring the woman too... PoS.

A long jail sentence is in order with serving older inmates in the shower daily is appropriate for the litte scumabg.

If I was him I'd stay far away from the funeral... your son was responsible for his actions and you failed at parenting... an apology is too late.

Failure to properly apologise and importantly wai will bode badly for his sentencing, unlikely the kid will see parole and release in 20 years time.

Stop showing gun fights on TV would be a good start that is where they get their ideas from.

I married into a large Thai family from up north where parental control is non existant as the parents were brought up exactly the same. It goes from generation to generation so it will never go away. I must say though in the 25 years that I've been married in Thailand they treat me with total respect. Many Thai teenagers boys are like pit bull terriers, it's not will they go of their heads but when.

The same attitude prevails with the young boys/men in UT in the village where I now live

As many other posters have said over the years - poor or non existent parenting only perpetuates a bad situation

RIP for the poor victim and I hope his wife survuves

The Prapadang area has a Songkran festival a week or so after everywhere else.

Correct. Songkran in Phra Pradaeng is always later than Bangkok. This year it was from 24-26 April.

He won't be in jail for a long time. He is a juvenile and drug related carries a long sentence. Maybe he'll get 3-5 years.

Why is there such a problem here with parenting? Is it just the general “sabai sabai” attitude or is there something more (less)?

I obviously don't watch Thai TV, but my wife does.

Firstly, you could be born deaf and dumb and without lip reading, know the story plot. They're always the same.

Secondly, guns, gun fights, gun intimidation and shootings feature in many of them.

Blurring out the weapon has the same non effect as Blurring out cigarettes or alcoholic drinks does.....,Zero!

I agree totally with this poster's comment!

Filthy american culture is infecting Thailand. Cowardly american use guns, because they are scared of a fist fight. Pathetic people.

Lax gun laws are responsible for these type of shootings. In countries with strict gun laws, youths in a rage normally resort to fists and occasionally knives. Guns too easy to use and the regret afterwards is life changing!

Correct.

I gave my .22 rifle away (permitted for shooting vermin and pests [foxes] on my small farmlet), after it became a requirement to keep it in an expensive, locked, metal cabinet.

Wasn't worth the cost, but surely worked in keeping access to these weapons highly restricted, along with the ability to buy ammunition!

Just too slack here.

Most likely the usual answer. Absent parenting, especially fathers. Respect for life either begins or doesn't exist in homes.

But they will still kill if pushed. This is a mental issue and not related to gun ownership. Having a gun accessible in the first place is wrong, which means either the parent left it around or it's an illegal gun.

And standing in this corner, not afraid of a fist fight is Mr. Ukraine and in the far corner Mr. Rusky. Oh wait , no fight today… Mr.R just shot Mr.U.   Oh well some people don’t know what pathetic people really are. 555

You can't have general public gun safety knowledge when only the government has the guns.

You can't pass on what you weren't taught and therefore don't know. There seems to be a complete lack of cultural knowledge about parenting.

Self-help, therapeutic and self-improvement media and books - to either compensate for one's own lack of being parented and/or one's ability to parent - seem to be scarce.

Perhaps there's some in the SEED bookshops in various malls.

Lakhorn seems to be the vehicle of family education on TV though.

Really???? So the rest of the world don’t have guns. 🙈As for Thai culture that died a long time ago in most places in Thailand. They have become more westernised as the years go bye. And fist fights don’t make laugh when have you seen a Thai fist fight when it’s one on one. Never they are a bunch of pussies can’t man up.

Hardcastle P has it right. There seems no watershed time on TV here where violence could be viewed. I was amazed to see what kids can turn on and view in a morning for example, Thailand are really backward in this regard.

What 16 year old teen needs a gun? Even in Thailand, only a teen thug would need

a gun. I know it is hot in Thiland now, but that is no excuse for this behavior. IMO
