Thai-Flagged Cargo Ship Abandoned After Attack Near Strait of Hormuz

Crew Forced to Abandon Vessel

A Thai-flagged cargo ship was attacked shortly after passing through the Strait of Hormuz on 11 March 2026, forcing its entire crew to abandon the vessel during an emergency at sea.

The ship was sailing in the Arabian Sea after departing from the United Arab Emirates when it reportedly came under fire at about 11:30am.

According to early reports, the strike hit the rear section of the vessel, severely damaging the engine room and sparking a fire. The damage left the ship unable to operate.

As the blaze spread and the situation onboard worsened, the captain ordered the crew to abandon ship.

All 23 crew members were safely evacuated from the vessel.

Fire and Severe Damage Reported

The attack caused major destruction in the engine room located at the stern of the ship, triggering a fire that quickly spread through the affected area.

With the vessel disabled and flames continuing to burn, it became unsafe for crew members to remain onboard.

The emergency evacuation was carried out to ensure the safety of all personnel.

Authorities have not reported any fatalities or injuries among the crew.

Responsibility Still Unclear

Officials say it is still unclear who was responsible for the attack or what type of weapon was used.

Investigators have begun examining the incident, including the vessel’s route and possible security threats in the region.

No group or country has claimed responsibility so far.

Strategic Shipping Route

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most strategically important maritime corridors in the world, connecting oil and gas producers in the Gulf region to international markets.

A large share of global energy shipments and commercial trade passes through the narrow waterway each day.

Because of its economic significance, any attack on vessels operating in the surrounding waters is closely monitored by international maritime authorities.

Investigation Underway

Regional maritime safety agencies have been notified and are coordinating support for the evacuated crew.

Authorities are also working to assess the condition of the damaged vessel and determine whether it can be salvaged.

Investigators are expected to examine whether the attack may be linked to broader tensions affecting shipping routes in the region.

Further updates are expected once officials complete their initial assessments and gather additional information about the incident.

We see you are good at using AI. That is NOT something to be proud of. Quite the opposite.

Its hardly anything to be ashamed of , no different than being proficient in using any search engine really , the skill is in knowing which of its offerings are correct and valid and which are to be ignored, same goes for any information we are presented with by the media or any other source ,, There does seem to be a lot of people who believe all they read online or in the papers, There is that much rubbish out there so its easy to find something to "validate" the most ridiculous hypothesis

I suspect they will say, "You knew this is a war zone."

No it's the Iranian government that is committing war crimes against the Iranian people, who also want to wipe out the Israelis while shouting out Death to America

Just a thought...

Why is it that most or all conflicts the US has is only with the Middle East. Is it that the US wants the ME people to be happy and comfortable? What about the other nations?

Three more ships in the Strait of Hormuz set ablaze, oil at $100 a barrel again.

It's much easier to start a war than to end one, as I suspect the USA is about to find out all over again.

Iran claims Hormuz Strait is closed, threatens to set shipping there ‘ablaze’

An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps senior official said on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz is closed, threatening that if any vessels pass through it, Iran “will set those ships ablaze”

https://www.timesofisrael.com/iran-claims-hormuz-strait-is-closed-threatens-to-set-shipping-there-ablaze/

Yes this was announced loud and clear by Iran. I thought it was completely closed. Why did the Thai vessel think it was safe to move ?

No, increasing inflation world-wide because of the actions of an idiot in the White House does not make me happy at all.

Wasn't this the same moron who said I will end the Ukraine war in 24 hours, no more wars?

It's ok for Thais to play the blame game but who authorised the ship to enter a war "war zone" in the first place. Not only there was no insurance but they endangered the lives on board. There's questions that need to be answered. What was an empty cargo ship doing being there in the first place and who gave the all clear to proceed.

Yeah, I know. On the other hand, it´s people who are devoted to #metoo or some updates of that garbage. The funny thing is that they can´t understand the biggest contribution to the world that the Muslim population has made, is war, violence, criminality and mayhem wherever they settle down. They go into every single country, and wait until they become enough to the population to segregate in a specific part of the country, or multiple parts in important cities. Muscle their way into every country´s politics. They demand to have their ways and laws in a foreign country.

At the same time, they are sitting in their home countries too, getting indoctrinated by their ayatollahs, that the rest of the world that don´t think like them, act like them and agree with them are the big Satan.

I know this reply will be removed, because speaking the truth is not accepted today. However, there are multiple facts of what I posted above, all over the world, in most countries in the world. So, removing this as racist or anything else, would be wrong! This are documented facts! Nothing to hide!

Or maybe, we just will delete it because other people got their feathers touched, and we can´t have that, can we? Even if it is true, documented facts!

There is no publicly confirmed operational Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) system actively controlling traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

Judge Juror and executioner.. I wasn't there. I'm sure the Master would be complying with International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA). At the end of the day she was attacked in a war zone. Orders to sail in my opinion come from owners and/or ship management. There is no Baht made whilst at anchor only costs. My memory slow but I may have been on this vessel two times about 15 years ago in Melbourne.

If memory serves me right, not too long ago some very brave and tough volunteers declared they would send their powerful navies to escort merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

So, what actually happened to those tough guys? Are they still making their way there?

Some of you people have no idea of the ramifications re running the gauntlet through this straight right now. The vessel has no insurance, mines have been layed, there are still active missile and drone boats active. The idiot captain had no intention of protecting boat and crew. Just like the idiots that run red lights!

It is spelt "Strait" and not "straight". How do you say the vessel had no insurance? Or that mines have been laid? (Again, it is "laid", not "layed"). Or that the captain was an idiot?

This particular vessel has been on the same regular run for the past many years. It is regularly carrying cement in bulk from India to Persian Gulf.

Their logic is to disrupt the oil supply chain to drive the prices up and therefore disrupt the global economy as much as possible, forcing Israel and the US to review their stupid actions.
